In 2005 City Park was changed to honor Peter Bluesten who was the founder and publisher of the Hallandale Digest. Mr. Bluesten was a WWII veteran who moved to Hallandale from New Jersey in 1946 and he founded the paper in 1963. He took the paper from a one sheet advertisement to a widely read and respected paper that chronicled the history and growth of the city. It was a hometown paper that the community relied on. Mr, Bluesten was very involved with youth sports in the city. He passed away in 1996. The park was redesigned by Craven Thompson & Associates Inc. and the remodeled 16.5 acre Peter Bluesten Park opened to the public on September 28, 2019. One of the highlights is the park's Aquatics Center which has a 25-meter by 25-yard competition style pool with eight lane short course section for high school swim competitions and recreational interactive water features. The pool was designed to meet all of the requirements for USA Swimming. The multipurpose main pool has a large learn-to-swim area, a dedicated water aerobics area, and a beach entry. Both pools are design-built concrete pools with deck level overflow gutter systems. There is also a 1,800 sq. ft water playground with an elevated play structure, which includes multiple decks, slides, rain buckets, water cannons, dancing floor jets and water curtains. Other park amenities include The Hallandale Beach YMCA, an artificial Safeshell turf soccer field, three baseball fields, concession stand, outdoor stage, playground, tennis, basketball, bankshot basketball, racquetball, walking path, and support buildings. The city uses the park for a number of events like their annual Easter Egg Hunt and Movies Under the Stars. If there is one small drawback to Peter Bluesten Park it is that it does not have a parking lot. You have to pay by app and park on the street. Other that that this is a really amazing park with something for everyone to enjoy.

Parking is available in the garage across the street. Public meetings were held to get community input into the design if the park. The result is an engaging park full of amenities for everyone to enjoy. Heritage Park has two playgrounds with Evos and Weevos play structures designed to let children flex their mental and physical muscles for creative play and upper body and core strength. a water play area, Veterans Memorial, performance stage used for the signature event Sunny Isles Beach Jazz Fest every October, dog area, great lawn, picnic tables, benches, and restrooms. This park is a stop on the community service shuttle bus. In honor of one the areas most beloved residents, Hollywood Commissioners voted to rename the park after him in 1999. The park was originally named Yankee Clipper after DiMaggio's nickname but after his death his family requested the name change. It is a fitting honor for someone who gave so much to the community even lending his name for a world class children's hospital. Today you can stroll the same paths Joe DiMaggio used to enjoy. The park has a paved exercise path that runs around the perimeter of picturesque lakes. Along the way are fitness stations that use your body weight to work out. There is also a large shade covered playground for kids to enjoy. The real delight of this park are the extensive paths which are ideal for exercise like running and walking and for kids to safely ride a bike and skate on. The outer loop is .81 miles and the inner loop is .40 miles. This park is also excellent for bird watching as the lakes attract a number of species of birds. Just be sure to keep dogs away from the edge of the water. Last summer a crocodile was caught in the park before being relocated. This park is really pretty and beloved by the community just as its namesake Joe DiMaggio was.

Park amenities include paved walkways, outdoor fitness gym, benches, a ping pong table, playground, picnic area, restrooms, and my favorite part, a beautiful butterfly garden that attracts a number of butterflies. This park is really beautiful and it has everything you could want in a neighborhood park. Another welcome amenity is it actually has a parking lot. You have to pay to park on the street at many of the other parks in Hallandale. Sunset Park is a wonderful place to take kids to play and this is one of the rare parks where the adults looked like they were enjoying it as much as the kids.

One of the team members, Elise or Eli's was locking up the park and doing his search of the park and stumbled upon my wallet. Not only did I not know realize I left my wallet, but Elise took it into his own hands and searched the Aventura data base and called my house to let me know that I left my wallet. If it wasn't for Elise and the staff, I would never have known and would have been frantically searching the next day. However, Elise called around an hour after I left and made sure I retrieved my wallet. So for that I thank you and the staff! The park has always been home for me and my dog. The staff is an extended family that is always helpful and amazing to our community. Aventura park is one of a kind.

Later James became the principal of the two-room Hallandale Community School from 1920 to 1927. In the 1950s, it became the B.F. James Elementary School, then later the B.F. James Adult Education Center. Today BF James Park sits on the site of the city's first black school. In 2014 the community gave feedback to the city that they wanted a pool. The pool and park is part of Hallandale Beach's Citywide Parks Master plan. It was the second city park to be completed in the first phase of the plan. BF James Park received a five million dollar complex that includes a beach style swimming pool with exercise lanes. Other park amenities added included exercise stations, a covered playground, and two new basketball courts. The building of this park fulfilled a 40 year old promise the city made to this community to provide a pool after the old Dixie pool fell into a state of disrepair. It is nice to see that the city of Hallandale Beach honored their commitment to this neighborhood with this beautiful park.

This is a very nicely appointed beach park in the city of Hallandale Beach. There is also a North…read moreCity Beach Park that is about a ten minute drive away. The park was renovated at a cost of $4.36 million as part of the City Wide Parks Master Plan and it reopened on March 1, 2015. South City Beach Park has beach access, restrooms, outdoor showers, open air pavilion, two bocce courts, a fenced in playground, sand volleyball court, and a beachfront concession stand. If you chose to come here do not let your parking time run out! I have been here twice and they are very aggressive about writing tickets. Both times I saw multiple tickets written. Online it says the minimum parking ticket is $39. I even saw one car with the barnacle which covers the windshield and makes it impossible to see to drive the car until you pay the fine to unlock it. You can pay for parking on your phone by app. In addition to being quick to write a ticket, another thing I didn't care for is they change the parking price whenever they want. If you come early or late you can get a discounted price of $2 and hour which is half off the normal $4 an hour rate but another time I came on the Sunday after Fourth of July and a holiday rate of $10 was in effect. If you are going to stay all day it is fine but at least for me it discourages dropping in for an hour or two. Make sure you keep an eye on the time so you can have your best beach day here.

That said, there were plenty of spots as the parking lot is a decent size.
