Went to Sunshine Animal Hospital in Clearwater and they were so good with my cat Taz. I had to take him in for his first vet visit in Florida and the staff was so nice. They let me come back into the room with Taz, gave him treats, and did everything they could to make him feel comfortable. They gave him his shot so quickly that he did not even notice, and the appointment was fast and easy. They have followed up since to make sure everything is okay. I am very thrilled with how great they were and would consider taking him back even though I moved to Tampa and it is quite the drive now. read more

Frou-frou slightly higher priced animal hospital where your pet will be pampered and they offer more services than most veterinary clinics. My boy cat has mouth pain so I took him in. I asked the doctor to numb his mouth so we could open it and get a good look at what is causing him pain. They responded that "This is a No Fear hospital, so we don't want to upset the cat." I, too, have a professional degree heavy in Medical Sciences, so I corrected the doctor! "Nope. We are going to look in his mouth and see what is happening." And that is what we did. He has severe gum inflammation and probably needs some extractions. I was satisfied to see the inflamed gums since I could not get his mouth open by myself. Even though they are more expensive than the last veterinarian I tried, I went for the pre-operative blood work and scheduled the dental cleaning and x-rays for 2 weeks from now. I felt confident that my cat's treatment will be supervised by a Veterinary Doctor instead of a 20-year-old Intern. The doctor sent me home with liquid Amoxicillin and a pain pill that I could supposedly crush into his food. I could not crush the pills, but hid it in tuna and the stupid cat ate the medicine. My girl cat could never be fooled like that, but the boy cat is less brainy! I used 1/8th of a tablet and he is sleeping comfortably. It is nice that they were concerned about his pain and comfort; hence another reason why I went with the higher priced Animal Hospital. I trust he will get what he needs at Sunshine. read more

Amazing experience!! I have the complicated task of bringing my shelter pup back home to Hawaii with me. The staff all around were so helpful and amazing to my pup Nutella and myself. My fur child, Tika, is becoming terrified of vet visits after a rough year, but she was the calmest I've ever seen her at this clinic. Our vet tech Brittany made her feel relaxed from the start -- even getting on the floor to be on her level. As most reviews have mentioned, Dr. Griffin is amazing. She is incredibly knowledgeable. I've felt rushed at many vet visits, but she was patient and provided a treatment plan with confidence. I truly felt like she cared about my fur baby's well being. The space itself is spotless and bright. The staff are vibrant and welcoming. I live over 30 minutes away and it is 1000% worth it. I will never go to another vet! read more

Unfortunately, I had to take my dog to Sunshine Animal Hospital because my regular vet didn't have any availability and my dog needed to be seen fast- he had a tooth abscess. The initial appt was fine, I was surprised that Dr. Griffin didn't want to put him on antibiotics before the procedure but I trusted her and her professional opinions. Looking back after getting a second opinion, that should have been the first red flag. Dr. Griffin specifically said that if she can save the tooth- she will. As I'm dropping my dog off the morning of the procedure I asked the vet tech to please keep me posted if anything else needs to be done while he is under anesthesia, I rather have other teeth that potentially need to be extracted addressed right there and then VS bringing him back another time and putting him under again. The vet tech replied that the vet can't leave the pet under in order to call me, and that's that. I was shocked because from past experiences the surgery tech monitors the pet while the vet updates the owners. So I left the clinic not knowing if someone will call or not, not knowing if I'll come back to a dog that had multiple extractions or not, not knowing if the vet will be able to save the tooth or not. I got a call later that morning from Dr. Griffin telling me that their X-Ray machine is not working properly and that they can't get the views they wanted. She said that they are trying to resolve it and that they are on the phone with the X-Ray company while my dog is under. When I came to pick up my dog the vet tech was giving me the meds and discharge instructions in the lobby, and sent me my way. I asked if they got the X-Rays or not because I didn't get any update and she confidently said that they did get it and everything looked great. When I asked to see the X-Rays or get a copy of them she started mumbling saying they don't have them and they got taken under a different dog's profile and then they got deleted. At that point, I wanted to speak with Dr. Griffin and asked if she could call me back. The vet called me back and said that they only got two views of the canine tooth (the one that was extracted) but didn't get the full tooth only parts of it and nothing else. Instead of apologizing and admitting that a mistake occurred or just apologizing for the discomfort, they kept trying to cover it up with what seemed to be inconsistent lies. I took my dog for a second opinion today and all my concerns were confirmed, the extraction was done very poorly, to say the least, it's not healing well. Other teeth need to be extracted!!!!!!!! And now I got a referral for a pet dentist (specialist) because we need to fix what Dr. Griffin did or tried to do. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Mistakes happen, we are all human, but the way they chose to handle this situation is beyond me and not once said sorry. I'll be sure to warn friends, family, and anyone that loves their fur babies about this place. read more

Went here for months initially in search of experienced veterinary professionals that take us seriously when we bring our dogs to the vet for something we've noticed as "not normal". I felt our concerns were regularly dismissed and not taken as seriously as they should have. We went through multiple misdiagnosis and were pointed in the wrong direction which cost us wayyy more $$$ than it should have. One of our dogs we brought in as soon as we started noticing things that weren't normal and after multiple incorrect diagnosis, his health declined so much that we ended up at Blue Pearl and putting him down when it could have been addressed upon our initial visit at Sunshine when we came in with our initial concerns. All in all, we finally found the vet we had been in search of after having similar bad experiences at Sunshine and at two prior vet practices we tried. Our new vet makes Dr. G and Dr. V look inexperienced and incompetent even though they have been in the field for a very long time. I always came prepared with examples, pictures, videos and questions and it never really felt like they knew what they were doing at Sunshine. It's so sad that there are so many places like Sunshine out there and that it took 3 different vet practices for us to find someone who actually knows what they are doing. Our other two pups are finally on track with their health after going to their new vet for a few months now. read more

After many many years of them treating my pet I would have expected a smidgen of compassion when he crossed over the bridge but nothing not even a condolence card. The ER vet who had to euthanize him had far more compassion than Dr. Brauer. For me, there'll be no other pets but if I did have one I would never return to this establishment. read more

I had just moved to Florida from out of state and was needing to find a new vet near my new home where I could take my cat for exams, emergencies, food, etc. I walked Into the door one afternoon (door is unlocked and open sign is in the window) and was greeted by a very grumpy woman from behind the reception desk who sternly said "WE'RE CLOSED!". I said "Okay, I just moved here and was hoping to find a new vet I could come to for appointments and buy Royal Canine Cat Food From." Before I even got my full sentence out she interrupted and proceeded to tell me that I would not be allowed to buy cat food from them unless I was a known patient. I could take a card and call during open hours. She turned around and continued on with her business, dismissing me completely. As someone new to the area and state completely, walking into a business and having this experience at the front of the house is a big red flag. I never had the opportunity to meet a veterinarian because I never went back, and from what other reviews say it seems like they are great. But, there is not even a slight chance I would trust a place to take care of my pet when the front of the house acts so off put by someone coming into a business with an open sign in the doorway and just looking for some help/information on their pet services. The reception is the first point of contact when entering into a business and it's a shame this woman is representing the animal hospital so negatively. read more

My dog has many, many health problems and I knew this when I adopted him as a puppy with special needs. This hospital has been my lifeline with all of his issues, always giving him love and kisses during our exams and visits. The veterinarians are gracious when I call with questions and concerns and are prompt in getting back to me every time. The front office staff are attentive and kind as well. I'm no longer with this clinic. During my time, I had an incident happen where I was scheduled an appointment with my preferred vet. Upon my appointment I was told I was seeing the resident vet and was told that my vet was out of office. I wasn't happy cause I followed my vet to that office and was very specific every time I made an appointment that it was with her. I was there for a urine UTI recheck and the vet who I saw was trying to insist on other charges and options not made with my trusted vet. She seemed annoyed with my persistence to stick with the plan made with my vet. She left the room and the rest of the visit was only handled with the nice vet tech. The other experience was that the rooms were cold and not welcoming. I also had to have my beloved dog put down in a room that felt so sad and sterile. Not warm and peaceful. My vet and the tech were very comforting but the atmosphere sucked! My vet left the clinic awhile ago and have FINALLY found her again. She has her own clinic now in S. Pasadena closer than Clearwater and back to St. Pete, but will follow her everywhere. All records obtained and will be moving on to the new clinic where I know I always get the most real and trusted care and the rooms feel like love and comforting when it's time to say goodbye. Had hopes for this clinic cause my vet joined the team but the expectations failed. My vet can't make a whole establishment amazing if it's not hers. Now she has... and off I go! read more

I was looking for a vet for my two cats and so I found this place. In moving into my new apartment, my cats somehow got fleas and so I went to this vet to talk about options. They recommended that I use a very safe medication (that did not require an exam) for each of my cats in order to rid them of fleas. The staff was friendly and helpful and so I thanked them and went home. That weekend, I had my apartment bombed and I gave both of my cats the medication. One of my cats had a horrible reaction to the medication and actually ended up dying, which really hurt me. In an effort to not let his death be in vain, I wanted to let the vets know what happened....but let me first say that... I do not blame this hospital AT ALL because I was the person who administered the medication. My intention in going to the vet was: (1) to schedule an health exam for my other cat, just to be sure that he was healthy and (2) to let them know what happened so (a) if they have to keep statistics on the reactions of pets to certain drugs, they can note the reaction and (b) to let them know to encourage other pet owners to have their animals have exams before adminstering medications. I am unsure if I could've saved my cat if I had had an exam, but it could've been a help. When I arrived, the receptionist was friendly (I believe her name was Anne) and so we started talking. I then went on to explain the reason for my visit. I started to explain the reaction that my cat had to the medication and that I wanted to schedule a visit for my other cat. Before I was able to finish explaining that I wanted to schedule a visit, she assumed that I was going to blame the hospital and immediately became defensive, argumentative, and raised her voice. She started talking over me and blamed me for killing my cat (which was not very tactful), stating that I must've exposed him to the fumigation fumes because the medication would never have killed my cat and that it is not the fault of the hospital. I then explained to her that (1) my cat had never come in contact with the fumes...as they would've harmed us both and (2) I was not here to blame the hospital. If i felt that the hospital was neglient, I wouldn't then trust them enough to schedule a visit for my now, only cat. She appeared to not have heard what I was saying because she continued to tell me that they were not at fault and it must've been something I had done. I became emotional and explained to her that I did not come in to blame them at all. I explained that I already felt guilty and was grieving for my cat and felt attacked by her tone of voice, choice of words, and her behavior. Eventually, she calmed down and understood that I was not blaming the hospital and that my intention was to schedule a visit for my other cat. However, that experience with her was very jarring and made me realize that if something HAD been their fault, her attitude would be to attack the customer before listening to see if there is a possible solution that we could arrive at. I know that this is the day and age of everyone suing everyone and so I am sure that her behavior is just because she does not want her hospital to be sued for something that is not their fault. Which is totally understandable, I wouldn't want that for them either. However, customers want to feel as if they are being heard. If the receptionist had simply waited to hear what I was saying, there would've been no argument or uncomfortable feelings. Although I was planning to stay with this hospital, I decided against it because of the receptionist's behavior. They lost my business because I now doubted that if they did do something wrong, they would be willing to take responsibility and work collaboratively in order to find solutions. At the end of the day, I wouldn't recommed this hospital simply due to the intensity of how angry and rude the receptionist became towards me at a time when I was already feeling very sad. read more

Been going here for about a year now for my dog and cat. Their staff is amazing. I had an emergency just as they were closing and performed an emergency surgery for my cat after hours with no question. I have insurance on through Petsmart Banfield for our dog, however they're pretty terrible. What cost over $3000 at Banfield, they charged $448. They know my dog by name when i enter. They remember her history. My dog loves it there. I highly recommend this vet. I've had only positive encounters with this staff. Very professional and informative with pet issues. read more

My dog was bitten by a snake at our apartment complex. This animal hospital is out front so it was obviously the closest/first stop. The receptionist was rude when I came in and said it was an emergency, said acted like my dog being bitten by a possibly venomous snake was not a big deal, and even had the nerve to say "just have a seat the dr is with a patient it'll be a little while." ARE YOU SERIOUS? I said "could we act a little more friggin urgent... If you can't help I need to get to an ER that can." So then and only then did she ask the dr to step out and just overlook my dog. He did and he was kind, but he looked at the snake photo and told me it was a cottonmouth (venomous) when it was actually a watersnake. (Nonvenomous) He then said they do not carry anti venom and that I needed to go to bluepearl. So I thanked him, gave her a dirty look, and was on my way. Let me clarify: the dr on staff was a heartwarming kind man who truly cares about my dog even though we were not going to be his personal patient. The receptionist is a frigid ice queen with an attitude. If that snake had been venomous (which I didn't find out until after my dog was treated at bluepearl with blood testing etc) my dog would have died in that office because that woman had an attitude instead of a heart. Tip: get a new receptionist that cares about your customers enough to listen to them... and knows how to promptly react to an emergency situation. read more
