We had two classroom sessions and an exam before our first dive in De Leon Springs. Squeezed into constricting wetsuits with weight belts strapped around our waists, on an unusually cold Thursday in January with low visibility in the springs, led to a highly anxious moment for Emille during the swim test. Mike scheduled the repeat dive the next Monday at a heated YMCA pool with excellent visibility and Emille passed like a pro. She swam 12 laps without pausing and we treaded water for 10 minutes like fish. After this redo, Mike joked that Emille was a "plant" that was sent there to test him. We returned to De Leon Springs with newfound confidence, and completed two dives on Tuesday, and three on Wednesday, satisfying our Open Water Scuba Certification. Our last dive was a bonus photography dive, and our first underwater Subway Handle photo session. Mike, now called "Scuba Dad" by Emille, even convinced a turtle to pose with the handle.   To celebrate our certifications, we had all-you-can-eat pancakes at the Old Spanish Sugar Mill Pancake House. We highly recommend Mike Campbell and the entire staff of Castaway Scuba to anyone in the greater Orlando area. Our schedules are chaotic, but they accommodated us seamlessly. They ordered and installed prescription lenses for my mask, and they have everything under the water.

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE!!! Had a chance to take grandson and son fishing. Booked these guys way…read moreahead of time, got a confirmation that I was paid and confirmed for Sunday 8/2/26 at 11am. We get there early to be ready, and about 45 minutes to the confirmed time, and called the assigned captain to make sure we were where we needed to be....no answer. Okay, we are about 25 minutes out from leaving, called again no answer... no answer. This repeats two times more, and getting a bit worried about things going sideways, so I called iOutdoor Adventures. Got someone who identified herself "as the manager of iOutdoor adventures, who seemed very put out by the call, but said she would get the captain to call me. He does, and right after I identify myself, he starts saying I am mistaken, we are not booked for Sunday 8/2/26, he has us down for Monday 8/3/26. I tell him I am looking at the conformation, and it says Sunday 8/2/26. Now he starts blaming iOutdoor Adventures, that it's all a bunch of 3rd party folks, he just contracts with them, and THEY mucked it up. So, I call the lady back I spoke to earlier, she says no, he is an employee, she confirms my reservation...long story shorter, after calls back and forth between them, with each blaming the other, she finally just says, I can't get you a captain, the assigned captain "got his scheduling wrong", as if that settled a HUGE waste of time and money. Which she obviously did not care about, acted like I was the one being annoying for being upset about their FUBAR, and then sighs and said "there is nothing she can do, she can refund my money, and offer me $50 bucks if I choose to rebook. Yeah, that's going to happen...ever. Like $50 off another of their screw-ups was even worth the gas and time I wasted on them. They were the most unprofessional, uncaring, not give a crap about how their unprofessional behavior ruined this, refused to take responsibility for anything, and were the rudest people I have dealt with in a long while. So, all we could do was pack up and make the long drive home It's your money and time, so if you want to waste it on them that's on you. You have been warned. After I read the reviews, apparently, I am not the only one this has happened to either. And because they acted like it was no big deal that they wasted my time, money and effort, because of their own BS, and then acted like no big deal pal, you'll get over it, no skin off our noses, I am going to make sure to hit every review I can so that other folks that like to fish are not drawn in by, in my opinion, complete uncaring fraudsters.

Went out with Capt. Fred Pharis on a fishing charter to Mosquito Lagoon this week. He was an…read moreexcellent and experienced guide who provided great value throughout the day with his local knowledge on area hot spots. His 18-foot Man-O-War skiff was meticulously maintained and provided lots of fishing room; perfect for our group size of two. Due to the grass in the water we mostly did cut bait and had a great time enjoying the great Florida outdoors, witnessing Manatee, Flamingos, Osprey, and many other species of animals and insects, but most importantly Fish...! The conditions made for a slow start to the day, but Capt. Fred consistently made sure we covered the right ground and regularly put us into Red's. My son and I had an amazing time; it was a day well spent and I can't wait to do it again next visit!
