SunsUp might be the most dishonest company I have ever dealt with. Our experience with them started with purchasing a LivingSocial coupon to get a jump start on a tan for our upcoming vacation. When we got to the Beaverton store, we were talked into signing up for a contract- the sales girl it would be a better deal for us, that they would apply the full promotional credit, and that we could cancel at any time, which we planned to do prior to leaving for our upcoming cruise. Well, a month or so later and before our planned trip, my Mom passed away and our family had to leave for Georgia in pretty short order. As an only child and executor of her estate, I knew that we would be out of town for 4-6 weeks. As such, we phoned the store to cancel since we didn't have time to get over again after my Mom's passing. At that time, we were informed that we would have to come into the store and cancel. My wife informed them that we were in Georgia and would not be home for over a month or more. The store employee told my wife that they would make an exception given the circumstances and that they would call us if they required anything else. We never heard back, so we assumed everything was cancelled. Well, months later I happened to go online and check our credit card statement- we are on autopay/paperless and had a lot going on, so I didn't make it a point to check it sooner. Well, lo and behold, we had each been charged $99/month for an extra 4 months (2 months were valid, including our original promo credits)...even though we had not stepped foot in their store even once, let alone used the services. I'm talking nearly $800.00 for absolutely nothing. At that point, I phoned their corporate offices and had the occasion to speak with Hanna. She said she could clearly see that we had not used the services over that time and that they would credit our card for the months we were overcharged since cancelling- said it could take up to 15 days for credits to appear. She also told me that they would officially cancel our memberships as of that date, so no additional charges would appear forthcoming. The cancellation did go through. Well, another 3 weeks went by and I checked our online credit card statement and still no credits. So, I called again. This time I spoke with Ruth Ann. I described in detail what had transpired, went over my conversation with Hanna, etc. She said that she would look into it and get back to me in a day or so with an update. 10 days went by with no contact so I started a dispute/investigation with our credit card company. After several weeks SunsUp lied to our credit card company about what had transpired. And even countered that a signed termination contract was mandatory, which it obviously was not as they terminated the contract over the phone per above. At the end of the day, we got taken advantage of in a very sad time. They could clearly see that we did not use the services since that original cancellation date but refused to do the right thing and credit our account, which they said they would do. Would obviously never recommend this company and would advise anyone to be VERY careful about signing one of their contracts. You may get more than you bargained for. The store personnel was actually very nice and helpful, that that in no way makes up for the shady business practices of the corporate office. read more

SCAMMERS! THEY WILL SAY ANYTHING TO GET YOU TO BUY SOMETHING (they are paid on commission) THEN YOU WILL FIND OUT YOU HAVE LATE FEES AND DUES FOR MONTHS OF TANNING YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT YOU HAD! READ THE CONTRACT! I informed the sales associate, Iran, that I was not interested in a membership, just a single tan. After my single tan, the associate held onto my credit card for 25+ minutes while attempting to sell me lotion and tanning packages. I told him I was not interested. After another 15 minutes, he convinced me to purchase a prorated ONE MONTH OF TANNING. The sales associate falsely communicated to me that I would only be responsible for just the prorated one month of tanning, which I had paid for at that time. However, my contract was to last several plus months, until the account was "cancelled in writing and in person." I was unaware I was still a member of the tanning center after one month and did not use any of the tanning services. I recently learned that I owe money for several months of tanning that I was unaware that I had and late fees. BTW corporate supports this behavior. Sunsup is hands down the best salon i've ever tanned at. When I went to sign up there the staff was super friendly and walked me through everything so I understood EXACTLY what I was getting into. I didn't feel pressured and I actually walked out of there feeling more educated about my tanning and the lotions I use. Not only am I getting great results but I actually look forward to going tanning to not just tan but visit with the employees. Such a cool environment!! I'm super picky about what and where I spend my money and I couldn't be more satisfied! Also by far the cleanest salon I've been to. You can really tell that they care about there customers and will go to great lengths to keep them satisfied. I was reading some of the other reviews to see what other people thought and I was super surprised to see some people were unhappy and had bad experiences. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but I have been tanning there for almost a year now and don't have one bad thing to say. I highly recommend checking them out!! Not impressed. I used to go to their location on Mcloughlin and over all wasn't unhappy there, but the service wasn't anything to be thrilled about either. Went to this location because it's closer to my house. Staff was seemed to always be new and inexperienced. Different people gave me conflicting info about which beds to use and when for the best tan and it just generally seemed like the staff was not knowledgeable about their "products." I canceled a couple of months ago finally because of an error made in explaining the "points" for different beds. The girl tried to call "the main number" to correct it because she "was new and didn't have the ability to correct it herself." She wasn't able to get a hold of anyone and just said "sorry, nothing I can do." Just got to be too frustrating of a situation overall. I bumped up my gym membership at Crunch fitness by my house for 10 bucks. Their base beds give me just as good of tan with less hassle and at half the monthly cost. Just my .02. read more

If I could I would give no stars. Horribly uninformed and pushy staff. I didn't go in there once where they didn't try to pressure me to buy some lotion or some other overly priced product. When my wife tried to cancel our memberships (because she is pregnant and we hadn't used it in 2 months) the staff tried three different times to convince her it was a good idea to tan while pregnant. My wife finally had to tell the person that the suggestion makes her uncomfortable and please stop asking. The reason why these guys get high ratings on citysearch is that they give store credits if you go on and give them a good rating. I am so impressed with excellent Management and staff at SunsUp. I have been a member for a few years now and I've recently purchased the Body Sculpting and Fit wrap treatments I've lost over 6 inches total. And I feel and look Great. TheOak Grove location even had a TV so you can watch Netflix while you detox and loose inches - My pants don't even fit anymore and it's been a few months since my first treatment and it's staying off I will be buying more- At age 61 it sure ain't easy to loose inches alone so I very much recommend using the body sculpting at SunsUp it will change your life. read more

You WILL REGRET IT... My opinion is that they use the cheapest bulbs and never change them. READ the fine print. After four visits I wanted to cancel. Corporate (SAURON the Dark Loard) said they wouldn't stop membership until after first automatic withdrawal and even then there would be a $50 cancellation fee (when I signed up I was told verbally there aren't cancellation fees - can't trust what they say; no scrupels). Signed up last month was prorated for the rest of that month and the next was then continuingly charged wrong THREE TIMES. They unlawfully ran the card on my account without my permission I've been contacting them for over three weeks trying to get a refund and figure out what happened I was charge wrongly three times for one month and I've still yet to hear back.
