We arrived at 1:00 AM after a long day of traveling. I must say that the front desk personnel was very informative, very patient and extremely professional. It would be an understatement to say this motel is a Connecticut Department Of Social Services facility. If you are going to stay here, you must realize a significant portion of the guests are "transient" and have little incentive to abide by social norms. The staff makes some attempt to mitigate that, but they don't want to jeopardize a reliable income stream. My room rate was low. The motel should still provide me with the advertised amenities, in particular a working refrigerator and reliable internet. The refrigerator barely gets down to 57 degrees F. When I pointed out my milk would spoil, they at first said milk can safely be stored at 60 degrees, then they suggested I store my food in a refrigerator accessible to ALL guests !!! When I went to get several tubs of ice, they complained I am taking too much ice. It appears some social services agency has a contract with the motel. People with little incentive to live within social norms stay here on an ongoing basis. They leave beer cans outside their doors, and smoke inside the motel. I am woken by crying babies, and arguments by people sounding intoxicated. People walk in off the street to get free coffee and reload their coolers with ice. I guess the staff does not intervein as they know the people will be gone by the time the police arrive. Another guest stopped me in the hall to ask for money. I have never seen bugs, though other guests have told me I must be one of the luck few. When I first got here, the room smelled like it had just been painted. Booked a room here with my wife. The second we walked in, there was a nasty smell. Once we got to our room, the room smelt even worse. Like vinegar mixed with rotting flesh. Burn marks in the lamp shades and bed sheets. There was two homeless people right out back of our window French kissing and didn't leave the picnic table for 4 hours. We decided we didn't want to stay and they refused to refund us for the rest of the nights we reserved. For the few hours there we didn't see a single person cleaning either. read more

I've stayed at several super 8 motels in the past year and the others have all been pleasant experiences. This location, however, was an absolute nightmare. They gave away my room when I failed to arrive before midnight on the night I had booked (even though I had spoken to them on the phone the night before, alerting them that I would be getting in late). They refused to refund me any of the $150 I had paid. The staff were not helpful, only offering to allow me to book me a new room for that night for an additional $100 charge. When I arrived, I was left waiting at the front desk for ~20 minutes before a member of the staff greeted me, and the lobby and hallways reeked of cigarette smoke. I'd driven 9 hours to get here from out-of-state, had nowhere else to stay, and didn't have an additional $100 on top of the $150 they'd already charged. I ended up having to sleep in my car in 40-degree weather. read more

This Hotel is the most disgusting and dirty hotel ever. It is more like a shelter than a hotel with guests. The rooms are fiflthy, rugs are dirty and smelly. The linen is not fresh The comforter is dirty and full of cigarette burns. The window share are disgustingly dirty. The bathroom didn't flush properly and tiles were full of crust. When I looked under the bed and behind the closet cabinets 1' layer of dust and dirt. They claim they have free continental breakfast. It is waterly black coffee and old danishes that no one touched. The elevators are full of dirty all over. Horrible Horrible condition This Hotel should be labeled a Shelter for Homeless People because that is all you see all over. Smoking outside at all hours. A three-star review for a Super 8? Really? Yeah, sure, why not-- I've been in plenty of cheap motels in my life, and plenty of Super 8s among them, many of them would get a 1 or 2 star-rating. And since this ain't the Michelin or AAA guide and I believe in comparing apples to apples, although I doubt I'd ever rate a Super 8 above 3 stars, this one certainly deserves it. First off, the location is convenient, right off I-91 and close to both Hartford and New Haven. Several (mostly chain) eateries, stores and gas stations are close by. The staff is not super-friendly, but they're nice enough for sure. Like all Super 8s, the accommodations are spartan, but the rooms are clean enough. Plenty of conveniently-placed soda machines and a snack machine in the lobby. Free wireless internet with a decent signal. Plenty of free parking. And DIRT CHEAP-- I paid only 60 bucks a night here. So as far as Super 8s go, you probably won't do much better than this place. read more

During a rain storm, I stopped at the hotel when it became dangerous to drive. It was late at night but no one was at the desk. After 15 minutes, a man arrived. He told me there was no availability and "to get the hell out." (For no reason, he was violent and rude.) The clerk was aggressive, rude, threatening and downright terrifying. He kicked me out of the hotel (he said there were no rooms) and refused to give me his name. I tried to be extremely friendly, asked him why he was being rude and he asked me to leave. He also refused to give me his name. Two other men in the lobby said they would cal the police, so I ran out and drove off. I had a small baby with me and was very afraid. The clerk at the next hotel where I ended up staying said he had also heard similar stories about the Super 8. read more

Was on a roll toward a conference at Dartmouth. Didn't hit the road from RVA until 7pm, with the plan of driving until I *had* to stop to sleep. Determined to get north of NYC metro before stopping, I hit the Henry Hudson/Cross County/Hutchinson River/Merritt Parkway thread, and was almost to the I91 split when I realized that safety dictated stopping for the night. I saw a gas-food-lodging sign that sported, among other things, a Super 8 logo. I took that exit, and followed the sign less than a mile to the motel. It was 2:30am, so I expected a sleepy/grumpy welcome from a night clerk. Not so - Jerry (I got his name from his colleague when I checked out in the morning) was friendly, and solicitous to the level that he guided me directly to a parking space that was right outside my room. I had my mountain bike on a rack, and asked him while checking in if I needed to bring it in. He said that as long as I parked rack-in (backed in), there would be no issue. And there wasn't, as the bike was undisturbed in the 6+ hours I was parked there. The room was clean, well appointed, and had a good-sleepin' king sized bed. Total cost w/AAA membership = $61, including tax. I was outta there by 9am, but I slept well. Highly recommend this place for tired travelers - friendly, clean, and easy on/off access for a northbound or southbound journey. read more

Awful place! Not only they show an attitude as if they are doing you a favor by letting you sleep in a filthy and smelly room but will charge your cc for things that you will know of AFTER you check out. I stayed there with my mom two weeks ago and my brother helped me carry our suitcases upstairs when we checked in and also brought breakfast for us the next morning. After leaving the town i saw an extra charge on my cc. I booked this hotel through booking.com and thus the hotel failed to give me the receipt when I asked them. When called about this charge they told that the extra charge was for the extra person who stayed with us! When asked to be specific, that a**h**e told that it's on our notes that there were 3 persons staying in the room and nothing else matters. They will not agree that my brother did not stay with us. They told "do whatever you can and as much as possible " but they have already charged and it's not gonna change. Stay away from them, and any other hotel i am sure will be far better than this sh**h**e. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE!!! Currently, I am staying in a room at this hotel. I work an hour away from home in Meriden, CT and there was a really bad snow storm tonight; to the point where it was taking me 30 minutes to get 5 miles (my commute is 52 miles). I booked a room here off of Hotels.com. When I arrived, the older Indian gentleman at the front desk was RUDE, UNWELCOMING and DEMANDING. Everything he said was "Gimme," "Gimme your ID" "Gimme your credit card," etc. Still, I am exhausted so I pushed it aside and got my room key after taking about 15 minutes to check in. I get to my room and have to pee something awful, so I drop all my bags and see what is posted in the pictures below. PISS, all over the toilet seat and the toilet bowl looking like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. I don't have time to wait, so I used a makeup wipe to clean the seat. Next, I go to take a shower. Upon turning it on, the loose shower head starts spraying water everywhere, so there was a flood on the floor before I could reach to turn it off. I finally pressed something in the top part of the round shower head to force the water to come out of there; which, turns out, has no other setting than ICE cold. Fantastic. After my frigid shower, I just want to drop and go to sleep, as I have to be at work at 8am. I pull the sheets back to find a BLACK HAIR on my bed sheets. The cherry on top of this room from hotel hell. I am disgusted in this hotel, the conditions they keep the rooms, and the service I received. I just wanted a welcoming, warm, place to sleep after a long day at work and fighting through a blizzard. What I got was a dirty, cold, poor excuse for hospitality. read more

AVOID THIS HOTEL. Unless you're into 3AM prostitution noises, maskless staff and customers in the time of Covid-19, no smoking signs that countermand the large, unsightly burn holes in the soiled bedspreads, and the persistent smell of a porn theater's floor--a curious combination of rancid jissom and urinal-cake sanitizing soap. It was simply unbearable. We checked in at about 4PM, and felt the shady nature of the place full force. By 3:30AM, things had simply gotten steadily worse--did I mention the cadre of otherwise homeless hotel residents grilling and raising vegetable gardens on the far side of the rear parking lot?--we had had enough. By 3:45AM, we were on the road. Now comes the hardest part: given the lax Covid-19 precautions we have decided to self-isolate for 14 days to see just what happens to us. Spent 4 nights here while looking for a perm(ish) place to live in Middletown. When someone suggested the Super 8, I was very skeptical...until I got here. This place is clean, well decorated, the beds are comfortable. I spent 1 night in a standard room, and it was surprisingly nice. The next 3 nights I spent in one of their "extended stay suites." The suite was 2 separate rooms, clean couch, nice sized coffee table, desk, side tables. 2 burner stove, sink, cold full sized fridge and freezer. The bed was perfect, clean and comfortable. % awesome pillows - I'm a pillow snob! Large clean bathrooom. I think, when talking to a friend, I used the word "lovely." I don't often use that word when describing motels... Honestly, if this suite had a stove, dishwasher, and a porch, I'd stay here for my entire 3 month contract - it was that great. My only complaint is that the internet was spotty at best and nonexistant at night between 9p and 9a. If you need to work while you are in town, this may not be the place for you. In their defense, I never called the tech support number provided, maybe that would have helped. Overall, I would be MORE than happy to stay here again. 70% better than any other extended stay I've used (and I extended stay a lot.) read more

I didn't even get to stay at this hotel, due to an emergency. I booked the hotel right through there website for Saturday October 29, 2016. The cost was 153.96$. Due to the emergent circumstances, I could not even get to a phone to cancel the hotel room. When I had checked today at 4:00 pm on my bank account I had four pending charges from Super 8 for 153.96$ each. I had called to ask why I was being charged four times for one room, and they stated that I had actually booked two rooms. I looked at my email stating that there was one room booked, and I told them that. The worker was unable to get the manager, and had said I had to call tonight at 11 pm in order to talk with him. I'm being charged a total of 153.96 X 4 for a room I didn't even get to stay IN???? Don't stay here. I called them back at 11pm as instructed to do so hoping to sort this out, while planning to try and wake up for work the next day at 5 am only to find out that they had lied to me. The manager wasn't around, and that I should call at 7:30am tomorrow. It is impossible to get a hold of anyone, and I cannot be charged 615.72$ for a 2 star Super 8 that I didn't even stay in! Okay, so first off. We had booked the hotel in advance. Came from NC to Ct to see family. Once we arrived. They didnt have our information. We even had a confirmation number and still nothing. So we re_booked it. Got to our room and it was freezing cold! Now mind you it was 35 degree outside with left over snow. The refrigerator was open but broke. The hot water took forever to come up. The floors were nasty to walk on. Their were water stains all over the floor. You can hear people making noises all over the hotel. We got a non smoking room and could smell cigarette smoke through the vents. The only positive thing was the lady at the front desk was very patient and understanding. Made sure everything was right. It requires work to be this bad. The plus side is that the bed was comfortable. The wifi is quirky. There are two networks for guests. The connection would drop on one and I would have to connect with the other one. A password is not required even though one is given one at registration. The TV would also lose its connection requiring the viewer to reselect the channel. I arrived close to 2:00 AM. Someone - housekeeping? - tapped on my door At 9:00 waking me up. Out of the six nights I stayed here, housekeeping came once. They made the bed, emptied the trash, and replaced the towel. The coffee and cups were not replaced. I had stop at the desk to get coffee packets, etc. The elevator has a strong scent of stale smoke and chemicals. The hallway smells too but not as bad as the elevator. The room was OK. In most motels, when one enters the room, there is a switch by entry door that all one turns the switch on and you can see to enter the room... Not so here. No light - just darkness. There are usually only about 5 other cars here. Most people know better than to stay here. This morning my 5:00 AM wake-up call came at 4:00 AM. I was very disappointed in the motel. read more

So I stayed in room 338 at Super 8 on a sat night. Guy at the front desk was inviting and said the room "really nice" so I was expecting something "Really Nice" Walked up to the 3rd floor and entered the room. Switch on the left next to the door wasn't connected to anything so I had to walk in a dark room and search for a light source which was located by the tv from an old fashion pull string lamp. Bed was a nice size and comfy. Tv was flat screen. The shower head needed CLR and the towels had yellow stains with the Name "Taz" over the bathroom door. Who is Taz? read more

After driving all night from Pa went to another motel that said they had a room only to be told when we got there nope...called super 8. Gentleman was super nice. Saved a room and was only a couple extra dollars to check in early. Offered us breakfast as well. Walking down the hall I noticed immediately it smelled clean. People actively cleaning as we went into our rooms. Bed was super comfortable and drifted off to sleep quickly. Would absolutely recommend. Economical and very understanding staff. read more

Stayed here on Sept 15th and it was an ok stay. Bill on the front desk was super nice and helpful. The room was clean but dated, just looks older. I was on the first floor and found it to be a bit noisy but once I turned on the AC that blocked out most of the noise. Honestly if you are looking for a budget friendly hotel this is the place to stay there was nothing wrong it just wasn't a luxurious hotel. My only complaint is that when I came for breakfast at 9:15 it was told breakfast ended at 9. Asked could I least get some milk for cereal and was told all the milk has already been dumped out. Kind of upset about not getting breakfast but ended up at Cromwell Diner and that was awesome so it all worked out! I stayed in Super 8 in Cromwell for a couple of nights. It said on their website some renovations were being done, it did not say the whole place was a construction zone. the room they gave me was literally in the middle of the construction zone, practically every room around it was being worked on plaster and dust everywhere , paint cans, even the elevator was full of plaster. I went to the desk and spoke to the owner and asked for a room on the bottom floor, away from this mess, my husband is handicapped and has copd and the plaster alone could have killed him. the owner said I would have to call orbitz , nothing he could do since I booked with them. who wants to go through this after checking in, he said I would have to pay $10 extra per nite, fine, just get me to a decent room. He put me in an older room by the back door, that was fine, except they lock that door all the time. so if you are parked by that door for convenience sake, you have to go all the way around to the front entrance to get in. really dumb and not convenient for handicapped people. the room was not filthy, but the tub was not very clean and the bar was broken on the tub, I do realize they are renovating and hadn't gotten to that room yet, but what was really gross was one of the white towels has brown stains that looked like poop on them!! someone needs to use better chemicals when cleaning and hot water. the refrigerator was on the floor and hard to bend and reach, they have old fashioned heaters like a lot of them do, which I hate, the blower types. there is no way to control those and the vents don't move and the air blows in your face all nite long. whish all motels would switch to baseboard. continental breakfast was nothing special, just some cheap pastries and some juice and some coffee. they do allow you to make waffles, and that was nice, some bagels and muffins would have been a nice touch and a later time serving breakfast would have been appreciated.. I think it will be nicer when its completed, but the owner never should have guests on the floor when construction is going on. also they do not have handicapped doors or sliding doors, so I had a terrible time getting my husband in with his wheel chair. the owners response to these complains is: We don't have to have automatic doors, its not required by the ADA!!, well maybe not, but you are sure going to lose disabled or older customers in the future, esp since their are plenty on same road that do have them. I ended up staying at the quality inn down the road the next visit and they do have sliding doors and go above and beyond to help their quests, so bye bye super 8!! the owner is down right rude and disrespectful and seems to look down on his guests. their are too many other motels too choose from in the same quality and price, learn some customer service or you won't be in business very long! and no you don't need to by law put those doors in, but other hotels have them and you are abandoning all those other customers, so adios!! read more
