I am a regular here, over 10 years coming and going and staying here. I have dealt with most of the owners and workers over the years, been through the renovation process and even COVID years. The layout of the rooms in the double king room suite are just what our little family needs. plenty of space, neat layout, two TVs and sofa in the room. Since the renovation, there is no padding under the carpets, so walking is heard all through the hotel. Also hard on the knees. Kids running is a nightmare sound upstairs. Hotel has issues for sure - probably due to revenue issues. Our current trip the door lock did not work with the key (door lock battery was drained) - second room, same thing, battery down. That issue was fixed when we left for the day, so that was a forced issue fix. Our room was fine this time, AC worked, TVs worked, great shower and clean. As others have stated, there is no breakfast served anymore (SEP2024 - so not a COVID thing - must be revenue issue) Sad to see when you cannot even get a cup of coffee out there (who trusts the in room coffee maker??) There are some workers who are pretty short with guests, so I have had that too - but not this trip. Overall, the location and room type is what we seek when in the area, and this room and the 110$ rate cannot be beat - 2 kings, sofa, 2 TVs is a great space with kids - we can overlook the other shortcomings - though as stands - a 5 star rating is pretty hard to come by, but 4s are easy... read more

As far as the hotel itself goes, it was really nice. Probably the nicest Quality Inn I've stayed at. If it was all about the cleanliness and Quality of the room, this review would get 5 stars. Plus the value is great. The reason this review has 2 stars is because of my experience checking in. The man at the desk on September 16th's evening shift was so rude and abrasive towards me that if I wasn't tired, I would have walked out. He has no people skills what so ever. He snapped at me several times including with his request for my car info. The week before, I had stayed at the Comfort Suites in the same town and also dealt with a rude employee. What's going on in this town? I really think someone should investigate this. The customer service is unacceptable! read more

"Quality" is a misnomer here if ever there was one. Noisy, poorly-cleaned rooms, stained linens, terrible air control in the room, and shabby and beat up fixtures, including one TV that didn't work at all and two lights without light bulbs. The lock on our door didn't work: we had to repeatedly get new key cards and the front desk staff then proceeded to tell us we were doing it wrong. He came up and futzed for a while until it was apparent that if we were doing our key cards "wrong", it wasn't working with his master key, either. Finally he kajiggered something on the door knob, and we were able to gain entry. Problem solved finally, right? Nope! Later I realized it was because the door **wasn't locking at all**! We got a "suite" because of differing typical bed times in our party, and the small side room was more of a sitting area, connected without a door to the rest of the room, and also had poor lighting. The main reason to go for a suite, if you are so unfortunate as to have no alternative but to stay here, is because they're at the far ends of the hallway, which given all the noise in our hallway -- on a night when we counted only nine cars in the parking lot -- at least it was muffled by distance. The insult to injury: I had called up a couple of days prior to arriving, to make sure they were serving the included breakfast promised when we made a reservation, and they said "yes, of course", and (you guessed it) when we got there the small breakfast room was closed off for alleged health reasons related to the pandemic. For starters our TV did not work the majority of the time we were there. I told management and the only thing I received is "we will work on it" no option to move rooms (and I am a Platinum member). The lack of not even a granola bar for breakfast was what took the value way down for the location. If you can't serve something simple as that you should not charge $100 a night! There were some sketchy people around the first night we arrived that caused me to question the safety of the hotel. The room was large and comfortable which is some salvage of the rating. The hotel was cleaned regularly which also helped to enhance the experience. I have been a Choice Rewards elite member for years, as I use the hotels for business and personal travel, so I book almost all of my rooms through them and their corporate site. On May 10, 2022, I booked a king suite with jacuzzi at the Meriden, CT Quality Inn for the night of Saturday, May 21, 2022 for $158.28 after taxes and fees. I received the confirmation email instantly. I arrived at the hotel around 8:30pm on Saturday, May 21. The person at the front desk (manager?) asked if I had the right hotel because I was not in the system. I pulled out my phone and opened the confirmation email. I told him that I had booked a king suite with jacuzzi online. Immediately, he became very rude and confrontational with me. He said that they do not book jacuzzi rooms online, so he didn't know how I did that. I showed him the confirmation email, and he said that he would not accept it. He said that he had a room to book, but they do not book them online, and would only give it to me for $200 plus taxes and fees. I told him that it wasn't like I had hacked the website: I had a confirmation email and numbers from Choice Hotels corporate website where the room had been booked. He said "I guess you can call them, but I will not honor that rate." I responded "with all due respect, this sounds like your problem and you need to call them because I have a confirmation email right here, so you need to figure out what went wrong in your system." He stepped away from the desk and went into the back to call someone, during which my spouse heard him yelling repeatedly "I am not going to honor that rate." When he eventually returned to the desk, he told me that they had a call cancelling my reservation, logged in their system under my first name. I stepped away to call Choice Hotels myself, and he kept arguing and trying to interrupt me as I spoke to them. At this point, it was clear to me that I was unwilling to stay at this hotel whether Choice Hotels could resolve this or not. I went to the parking lot to continue the call without confrontation. My call disconnected after 30 minutes, and I called back to be told that I was #22 in line. At this point, it was nearing 10pm, and my spouse and I decided to just drive back home to another state, 90 minutes through the night, since we were being denied our reservation. This was our first night alone together since our baby was born six months ago, and was a special trip for us to celebrate while grandma watched our baby for the night. I don't know when we will have another opportunity like this. This opportunity was completely ruined by this hotel staff member. Calling customer service again the next day, they were able to determine that my hotel was cancelled at the hotel, by the hotel, and not through the Choice Hotels network, which is why I did not receive a cancelation email. Choice Hotels compensated me for the issue and promised to launch an investigation of the hotel and its staff for the incident. This is the worst experience I ever have had at a hotel and in customer service. Reading other reviews after the fact, I see now that others have experienced major issues with the staff and hotel as well. I hope that everyone is contacting corporate to file complaints. This behavior, in my opinion, warrants Choice Hotels pulling the franchise from the operator and taking them out of the hotel network. read more

Stayed here for a night with my bf and baby. Besides the creaky floors and the obvious thin walls (we heard the people in the next room) I was pretty satisfied. We checked in at night and the front desk lady was very sweet. Our room and bathroom were clean and pretty roomy. Free continental breakfast the next morning included: waffles (make yourself), bagels, pastries, cereal, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon(it was all out by the time we went down), coffee, oatmeal, juice. read more

If you need silence at all to sleep, this isn't the place. EXTREMELY thin walls. I can hear the conversations of the people in the adjoining room. If you have anything private to say I'd whisper. The service here was sub-par. The lobby smelled like spicy brown mustard for most of our three night stay. There was no complimentary breakfast as advertised (due to COVID). Every 10-15 minutes several appliances in the room would also randomly lose power (i.e. Mini fridge, television, microwave). I wouldn't recommend for any extended stay, but for a quick one nighter this location is OK at best. read more

This hotel has had leaks in the roof for months and there are always male hair clippings on the sink in the rooms, poor cleaning. But if you use Reservations.com to book you get charged an extra $50 in fees that they don't tell you about until you have already paid the booking!! I asked for a refund of the fees or a cancellation and was denied both!! It is fraudulent business practices and beware. Also if you book on Expedia the owner will cancel that booking and mark you as a no show and then check you in so that he doesn't have to pay Expedia the fees!! He is very dishonest and more people should be aware of how he does business. read more

This hotel really got me upset. First, the location is not the best, but this is my option, so, nothing that I could complain about. During the check in, I changed rooms 3 times. First because the A/C was not working, then the second room bathroom was not cleaned at all, although it was checked like cleaned, and then the third room the magnetic key didn't work. I end up going back and forth about 5 times until I could find something usable. On the second day, the magnetic key didn't work again... I'm not sure how long more it's going to take until this gets fixed. I can not leave my stuff in the room nor I can take shower as at any minute somebody can come up to fix it.... The impression is that the owners really don't care. I don't recomend at all, it's not worth the low cost. You really get what you pay for... read more

Room 304. Creaky floor! Room had occupancy of 3. A local friend came by prior to going out (making 4) and they warned me by 9 they must go and peater d us although was respectful of noise. Tried to take a banana from the fruit basket in the evening hours staff said I was be able accommodate that until morning. The constant creaking of the floor was really a downer. read more

So I originally was going to highlight how good breakfast was, and how spacious the room was, and even how clean my room was. I was going to ignore the creaky floors in my room and the one above me, as well as the tiny parking lot, and the AC that acted a bit weird (worked but weird), and the obviously thin interior walls. But then an hour after checkout I got a bank notification text telling me that my card had been charged for the room. I found this odd as it had occurred the evening I checked in as well. Turns out they sent 2 identical charges through which I was assured before I paid would not happen. I would have used cash otherwise. After arguing with the hotel who denied it, I called their parent company who tried to help but wasn't able to get the information. I even threewayed my bank with the hotel who still denied and couldn't/wouldn't provide the information needed to release my money. Now I am missing my money until Monday, and this is Wednesday, as long as the second charge falls off. DO NOT PAY WITH A CARD IF YOU DONT WANT IT DOUBLE AUTHORIZED. Beware of the Quality Inn in Meriden Connecticut, it's been continually going down hill and our past stay will definitely be our last. My wife and I have had several extended stays at the Quality Inn in Meriden while visiting my wife's aunt at a nearby nursing home. The hotel was conveniently located, moderately priced, offered a hot breakfast, and until this past 4-night stay, reasonably clean. Although the hotel is poorly constructed with the floors squeaking terribly and you hearing everything above, beside, and below you, we were willing to live with some deficiencies because of the reasonable price and only needing the room to sleep. The floors now seem to be getting squeakier, the carpets are getting dirtier, and the breakfast area can only be described as nasty. The management does not seem to care. When we went for breakfast the first morning, the waffle iron was turned off with a half cooked waffle stuck in the waffle iron and batter was spilled all over the counter. We wound up going to a local donut shop for breakfast. The next morning we decided to pass on the hotel breakfast and eat out again. The third morning we decided to give the hotel breakfast another try. This time the waffle batter container was empty (as was the coffee dispenser) and batter was again all over the counter. I reported this to the manager, telling him that the counter was nasty, and he told me that "it wasn't his fault, people using the counter were messy". We also observed that there was fruit on the carpet and the trash containers were overflowing. While my wife and I were having a cup of coffee, a woman walked in with a small dog in her arms and held it over the counter for a minute or more while selecting a pastry and other breakfast items. The hotel advertises that no pets are allowed, but we also saw the dog and its owner in the elevator and in the lobby and the desk clerk said nothing. We definitely will not stay in this hotel again and strongly advise others to stay somewhere else. The price looks attractive, but in this case you get even less than you pay for. read more

If you can avoid staying here DO SO! This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed at, the entire floor smells like cigarettes. The walls are so thin you can hear everything people next door to you are saying. They front desk is not friendly and does not try to accommodate you in any way. Oh my, where to begin... POSITIVES - Front Desk attendant (Manager?) was polite and responded to (multiple) issues - Breakfast buffet was clean - Vending machines were located near the elevator NEGATIVES - Had to switch rooms (roach crawling on toilet when I turned on the bathroom light), which made me want to not even stay here. Believe me, I thought seriously about just leaving regardless of how tired I was from driving. I REALLY checked the second room VERY thoroughly. - In the second room, the window was cracked and repaired with clear packing-style tape over the very large crack. - The shower was ridiculously low-flow and the tub backed up with water when you took a shower. - The television was old and the picture was very dark. - At around midnight, an alarm clock started going off in the room next to us. It never stopped. We had to call the front desk (we woke him up) and have him come up, open the adjacent room and unplug the clock so we could get some sleep. - There were people loitering in the parking lot at all hours, which made me nervous about the safety of my vehicle. My biggest impression here is that they are not staffed adequately to keep up with maintenance issues or worse yet, Management just doesn't care to. * AVOID * read more

The extremely inexplicably poor service makes this hotel unacceptable. They couldn't find the details of my reservation when I checked in. They saw only my name. They printed up a daily room charge that was higher than my reservation was for, even tbough I showed them a copy of my confirmation. The place acts like you're trying to steal their children if you ask for an extra towel. Nothing is available after the housekeeping people leave at about 1pm. Forget about getting a box of tissues or a towel after that. If you ask the front desk people (other than the manager) to give a recommendation of a place to go for anything, they look at you with a blank look and say you need to go on the internet to find what you're looking for. Requests for repairs are ignored. The evening person at the desk sits talking on the phone with his feet on the desk all the time. But no point to interrupt his phone call because he doesn't get up to help with anything anyway. There's no laundry facility in the hotel. There's a sign up at breakfast saying to not bring food out of the breakfast area, and there's actually somebody who watches to make sure nobody brings breakfast to their room. I've never seen a hotel that tells guests they can't bring breakfast to their room. On top of that, there are only a few tables in the breakfast area, not nearly enough for everyone to eat there. So, I've seen guests go there, and then leave with no food because there were no tables. Sometimes they wait a half hour to come back. This place is unbelievable! read more

Stayed for a week in August 2016 for a golf tournament. Multiple TV channels. Friendly staff. Great security (cameras), except they should also have the cameras on vehicles in the far back of parking lot too. Mostly quiet, except for my last night I stayed there. Small parking lot (rooms exceed the amount of parking spots) & while I was there, someone reserved a spot right in front near main entrance every single day by putting a plant in the parking spot (so that no one else could park there). Sometimes they'd park crooked so that they could reserve 2 parking spots - 1 for them & 1for a friend or family member. I'm assuming they were living there or maybe it was one of the staff members?? Vent not working in bathroom, carpet out of style, horrible gym (bike & treadmill didn't work, didn't even try the weight machine, & no free weights), & there is no laundry room. They were supposed to fix the ripped tear in the curtain, but never did. They were also supposed to clean my room once while I was there, but all they did was change the towels. Didn't vacuum, change sheets, or dust. Supposedly renovating in 2017, but we'll see..... read more
