Why isn't zero stars permitted. Just take a look at my photos. Empty condom wrapper on nightstand, broken light shade with injury hazard, broken tub....I could go on. States "free WiFi" but when I try to log on it's "not available" and the front desk gave some bullshit answer line about the "rain interfering". My IT hubs has an MS in computer science and called BS. I'm Kicking my self for not checking yelp reviews first, but we were in hour 10 of 17 and just needed a cheap place to crash. We walked into our room and turned in the light and seen several cockroaches multiple sizes scatter and running in between the carpet and wall, we informed the front desk and he yelled at us to get out and go absolutely horrible. Convenient location right off the Indiana Toll Road. Rates in March were very affordable. Room with king size bed and pullout couch. Room was clean even if a bit dated. Lumpy carpet. Not sure what was underneath it. Rude, and hospitable staff. Bedding was dirty. Furniture was dilapidated.

All I wanted was a clean hotel. Well, it was not clean. It was also supposed to have Breakfast. There was no breakfast and it looks like there hasn't been breakfast in a long time. Additionally, the dresser had the word "Fuck" carved onto the top. There was a stink bug on the ceiling, which I learned later had most likely gotten in through the window that didn't fully close. There were burn holes and stains in/on the bedspread. The one chair in the room had lots of stains on it. The sink drained very slowly, so there was standing water in it after even just washing your hands. The faucet was backwards so turning to the right was warm and left was cold. Oh and there was a cat roaming the hallway. And finally, they tacked on an unknown "1.50 Safe Tax", which they would not credit, even though I had a confirmation with the total amount I was to be billed. If I could give zero stars I could. My mom(who is disabled) picked this hotel off of Priceline. The website said there was breakfast. There was no breakfast. The signs claimed that was due to Covid but I have eaten at the Presidential in Shipshewana back in February so that's a lie. Strike one. The entire hotel smelled. Strike two. The employee did not want to break away from his phone to do any sort of service. Strike three. But I'll keep going. The hotel had scratched up furniture with holes in it. Strike four. No vending machines for a soda or snacks. Strike five. Divots in the floor. Strike six. They didn't even make a copy of our ID, sign anything write down make of car, swipe the card. And then when we were going to leave, they harassed us three times asking us if we were checking out. Well excuse me, I was carrying out things for my elderly disabled mother. To cap it off to say clearly ordered the cheapest satellite package which had 80% informercials. Hope you like that, Donk Master or Forensic Files. This place is the nasty mess. I was not expecting a great experience but come on how can super 8 have there name afflicted with this place. The people at the desk don't speak English well so it's hard to understand anything they say. The place is dirty like hair left on sinks, the carpet is dried with stains and years of abuse. The fixtures are mostly dated barely working lamps/dressers. The beds have mattresses that are 50plus years older. The whole place smells like super bad Indian food and smoke. Our room didn't have a key so in order to be let in we had to ask front desk guy every time we left our room to be let in. I'll be lucky if I don't come out with bed bugs or some horrible rash. I pre booked and stupidly didn't look at reviews before hand. Bet I won't forget to do that again. Also there's a bag over the smoke detector see picture. The people who run this place are skimming money off the rooms. Hence why my room didn't have a key (they just pocketed the money so it wouldn't register that the room was occupied). Nasty! The only thing nice about this hotel were the bath towels. Where do I begin? The carpeting was filthy and ripped and patched in places and had a really funky smell. Little to no water pressure. There is a severe language barrier! I don't begrudge foreigners from owning restaurants hotels Etc but when 99% of their clientele speaks English I would strongly suggest they hire an English-speaking person whom you can understand. I'm not happy to say the least! One of the others in the party made the reservation at the wrong Super 8 for 3 rooms... I drove to the one in Shipshewana which was across the street like from MEC where we were going to the auction. I tried to explain to the Mid East people running the motel in Howe where the reservation was made in error. They barely spoke English to begin with and insisted if we canceled that we would still have to pay for one room!.... I finally threw up my hands OK You Win. We'll stay there even those it's 12 miles away instead of across the street!!!!...There is now Complimentary Breakfast here because of Covid... but there is at the other one. It took 45 minutes to check in because the woman didn't know how to work the Computer. It Is Clean but the furniture in the rooms is old. Everything in the room is very low to the floor it's like the room was designed for Dwarfs. Even the bathroom sink is low. I always leave a $5 bill for the people that clean the room... To begin with, hotel is older style rooms. The rooms are very clean and everything worked. Had a fridge and microwave in room and that was handy. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. Large well lighted parking lot. If your goal is to spend more, go elsewhere. If you want a clean room in a location close to Shipshewana try this place. Would stay here again. read more

The gentleman at the front desk were wonderful. We booked 2 rooms that were assigned at opposite ends but when they realized we were together they jumped into action to find us 2 rooms next door. The reason for only 3 stars is cleanliness was lacking. One room was clean and smelled fine. The other had a smell we couldn't figure out until we looked at the ceiling. I have a hard time believing that the Super 8 hotel chain allows this place to use its name. The place is old and grungy. The hallways are really dark ( I assume they are saving on electricity ). The carpet and bed spreads are in desperate need of replacement. I think you could clean the bathroom for hours and it will still feel dirty. The toilet paper roll was used up and left as good. Two of the room's lamps were without shades, just exposed bulbs. One fixture was even missing bulbs...just had exposed sockets. Went to open the window and the screen was repaired a long time ago with duct tape. It had been a while as it had pulled away and was flapping in the wind. Lifted up the bed covers to see a grungy mattress that looked like it had bug droppings. I was worried about bed bugs, so we left.... we did not stay there after noticing all the shortcomings. We stayed at a Super 8 a few miles away in a town called Shipshewana.... it had nice and new fittings and was clean and just perfect. I was amazed at the quality level between these two Super 8s just ten miles apart. read more

This should never qualify as anything above 1 star. The young woman checking me in couldn't figure out how to do it since I booked with expedia, so she tried to make me pay again ("it isn't working. What credit card would you like to pay with?"). While I'm checking in, two men returned to the front desk four times because their key cards didn't work. The woman (Tiffany I think) just kept trying the same cards through the same card writer... The walls are ridiculously thin and I kept being awoken by my neighbors or people in the hallway all night, even with my white noise app. The bed was at least comfortable, but the sheets are literally just a flat sheet loosely over a mattress. My lamp occasionally turned off by itself. There are no complimentary shampoos or conditioners (sucks if you're counting on them, luckily I had my own in my car). The continental breakfast is a joke. Terrible coffee, sunny D-type "orange juice" and apple-flavored water, some muffins and bread (with no peanut butter, jelly, butter, etc.), two types of cereal with no milk, and make-your-own-waffles with one single paper cup for the batter that we all had to reuse. Only positives: acceptable WiFi (though no Verizon cell service), not overtly unclean, and comfortable mattress. read more

This place was horrible, the first room we went into had a horrible smoke smell. Then we got moved to another room, it too had a smoke smell. Much less than the original room but it was still there. Half of the lights did not work, TV controller did not work either. The bed was extremely hard and the pillows were flat. All of the items are very old and they look like it. The only plus I can say is the receptionist was extremely nice and moved us to a new room and apologized numerous times. If I could I would give her 5 stars. read more

Hands-down the most disgusting place I've ever stayed, but it was the last room available during a major storm. The stench of urine in the dog friendly room was overwhelming. Seriously, we didn't let our dogs feet on the carpet because it was so gross. It not only stunk to high heaven but visibly there were spots all over the carpet. The room was in extreme disrepair between the carpet, the molding and other details. The guy at the front desk was straight up rude when I let him know about the smell in the room. He said well you asked for a pet friendly room and this is what you get. As we walked to our room, there was a woman with a baby pleading to be released by a man in one of the rooms, so I called the police. It sounded like she was pleading for her life. Unfortunately the cycle of domestic violence didn't get broken that night because she was right back in the room with her abusive partner the next morning. I have nothing good to say about this place, I'm truly sorry I wasted my money there. I would've rather slept in the car, but maybe that woman needed someone to call the police for her. read more

The room was clean and the air conditioner reasonably quiet, but the bed and pillows were not comfortable. Attention to repairs seemed non-existent. The toilet needed a flapper and ran all night. When turning the handles on the faucet, the entire faucet moved because it was not anchored. We asked for a handicap room (109) but there was no walk-in shower, only a tub and shower head. However grab bars were plentiful. The attendant spoke so little English that it was difficult to understand what he was saying. Even though the motel still advertises (Aug. 6, 2022) that they provide a continental breakfast, they do not. Check reviews from April, May, and June of 2021- Same Problem. It appears that they are guilty of false advertising and should be taken to task. This is the last Super 8 motel I will ever stay at since corporate clearly does not police the quality of their motels. Those who went there expecting a breakfast should be getting a partial refund. read more

If you're looking for a good night's sleep at the end of your day's journey, stay anywhere else! This location backs to a business that operates loud machinery all night long. If you enjoy this obnoxious noise, then by all means have a great visit. The back hallway smelled like skunk, an odor that permeated the second level rooms. The clerk did not even know what a skunk is, and tried to tell me it must have been a dog. Nope, I know from skunk odor. Unfortunately, another guest needed a tow at 3 am. Right by our room window. That is sad enough, and minimal noise and lights would have been understandable. But the guy with Bill's Towing yelled loudly for nearly an hour. Why didn't the management suggest they quiet down? Why did they leave it to guests to Morse code with a smart phone to please be quiet? We will never know. The bathroom had mold painted over, as did the hallway and breakfast room. This was unhealthy and unappetizing. When checking out, I mentioned the skunk smell. I did not mention the rest because the clerk was complaining to me at length about another guest. I did not want to be the next guest to be blasted. The beds were comfy, but the lack of sleep and condition of the facility earn this a warning to stay elsewhere! For $65 a night this hotel was just fine. The good: neat and clean. The young man behind the counter was very nice and very helpful. Bed was comfortable. Wireless services was not blazing but was adequate. And for the negatives (and they are relatively minor): breakfast was so-so, no different than it ever is at this kind of place. Water pressure in the shower was a little low, but was still useable. They just need to change the shower head to those designed for low pressure. Towels were a little on the thin side. Now, having said that, let me remind you that IT WAS $65 PER NIGHT. After all, its not a resort...its just a place to sleep. Therefore they get 4 stars because what you get for what you pay for is a good value. read more
