A really lousy, disappointing Super 8. Options were limited, but I thought I would give this Super 8 a try. It's located right off of I-80, which is convenient, but that's about the only bright side of this place. The first impression is that this place has a very stale, musty odor. It starts in the hallway, but is just about as bad, if not worse, in the room. To add insult to injury, there was a strong odor of pot on the lower level, not far from the lobby, which continued all night. The room looked promising, but I went to put my drinks in the fridge to find out that it was warm inside. After trying a few outlets and adjusting the dial, I concluded that the fridge was broken. I went to lay on the bed and I noticed that it was very hard and uncomfortable. I'm not too picky about beds, but this one was just awful. There was a very thin sheet under a stained, scratchy, thin, brown "blanket." It actually hurts to lay in this bed. The carpeted floor might be more comfortable. Speaking of comfort, the bath towels were of a very low quality material. If the bed was painful to sleep in, it was even worse to dry off after a shower. Oh yeah, the shower head needed to be replaced, as it was very rusty and squirted water out in all the wrong directions. One of the wash cloths had orange dots on it. It kind of looked like old blood. The A/C must have been on its last leg. I put it on 65F and it didn't do anything. I cranked it down to 62F on high and then it slowly started the cool the room down. Well, until it shut off about ten minutes later. Breakfast was very limited and the apples were old. To top it off, two of the housekeepers were yelling in the lobby area. Don't stay here! read more

The things this hotel has going for it: It's in Kimball yet near the highway. Convenient. First floor outdoor doors, second floor indoor doors, so take your pick. Thoughtful. Fridges, breakfast (including hot selections), TVs, all. I stayed on the second floor and that room was quiet. Quai. It. Hotel service was really friendly both evening and morning. The downside: It has that air conditioner type that turns off when it thinks the room is cool enough... and the sensor appears to be in the wrong place, so it thinks it's cool after a few minutes. And the fan thinks it's got the room to 80 degrees in a matter of seconds if you turn it on. I couldn't sleep right, because with the A/C selected it kept shutting the unit off and turning it on, disrupting noise. With the fan selected it got too hot. This hotel isn't for me, but honestly, other than the A/C, there are no complaints about it. Everything worked just fine. So as long as you think you can sleep through what I just described, this is the right hotel for you. Caveat emptor! read more

We stayed in Kimball on the way west to California. There weren't many choices for hotels along the way. The room was $170 on a Wednesday night. Our room was on the ground level and had an indoor and outdoor entrance. Overall, it was a dark and dingy space. When I shut the bathroom door, there were long strands of black hair on the floor. Fortunately, the shower and sink were clean. The beds were comfortable, but the tan blankets on the beds felt like sandpaper. Thankfully, we had some of our own throw blankets with us. It wasn't a totally awful experience, but it certainly was not great. On a side note, we ate at Pizza Hut. The only restaurant we could find that was open. Super fast service and good food. The inside was open for dining. read more

Very unfriendly owners. This is a common theme among Super 8s. They are now almost entirely reliant on business contracts. Nearly all of their business is for blue collar workers. Because of this, the clientele has been rough. No mater which Super 8 you stay, if you're a tourist, you may be the only one. Try hotels that actually cater to traditional tourists. read more

There was a huge event going on in Chyenne, WY, a rodeo, and bunch of other things that filled the city up. The Motel 6 there was $109 so we decided to get further out of town where the hotels would be cheaper and away from all of the festival who-ha. About 50 miles away we found this Super 8. They allow pets, but only in smoking rooms, and they only had one left, a king-bed room. What-ever, we took it. Each pet was $10 for a total of $20 pet fee. The total for 2 people to have the privilege of sleeping in a a smoking, king size room at a Super 8 in the middle of nowhere? $150 -- yes, $150 a night. Why so much? Because there was a special event that weekend. Common, 50 miles away from the special event and they are charging special event prices. It was just an excuse to charge people more money because they knew those people could not stop in Chyanne and this was the next stop. Yes, they got the money and yes, they were full but I still think it is taking advantage. We got a roll-away bed for me (I was traveling with my dad after all and that would have been weird) and went to find food. With the 24 foot truck towing a car, we were not going to drive anywhere. The diner across the street just closed, at 8pm. The clerk informed us that yes, there is a Pizza Hut but neither them, nor anyone else in tow delivers. WHAT? So we landed up eating summer sausage, crackers, microwave popcorn and candy out of the vending machine for dinner. Luckily, I had stowed away some of Periscope Cellars new travel bottles of Dry Rose. That made dinner much better for me. What else to add to the list? The room reeked of smoke, as did the hallway (yes, I know it's a smoking room but still). The TV remote did not work. The air conditioner was not that cold. Did I mention no restaurants nearby? The beds came with a top sheet and a very flimsy blanket. The room was not impressively clean. Breakfast consisted of coffee, juice, cereal and some Costco muffins and danishes. I was not impressed. Was there anything good? It was directly off the highway. After we were about 2 miles away, my dad realized he left his phone and iPod in the room and the inn keeper retrieved it for him and held it at the front desk while we turned around and went back for it. If you are on I-80 East, plan your trip well so you are not stuck in Hell, Nebraska. You will not be sorry. read more

This place is scary and dirty. The fridge was unplugged and to get to the cord I needed to reach behind a piece of furniture. I had to fish it out of food scraps and a lot of other garbage. The sign outside suggests new rooms. I doubt it. The toilet ran all night. Nothing about this motel made me feel safe or even welcome. THE DEAD BOLT ON THE DOOR DID NOT WORK. As a Wyndham employee who works for a resort that prides itself on our customer service, coming to the motel was a rude wake up. Very rude GM who treats you like an imposition for staying at his property. Found out at 8:00pm that they lock up the laundry at 9pm. Even though I mentioned doing laundry and got change from the GM he said nothing about closing it down so early. They post it on the door to the laundry that isn't something you see until you need it. And then it is too late. Even though the rooms are clean and with newer furnishings, I would plan your trip to bypass this motel. Just not worth the hassle. read more

A total garbage pit. The clerk kept looking out of the window by the front desk as if he was expecting trouble. the room was dirty and had a stale odor. The door would not lock properly. Ok, first the positives. Location is not bad, right off of I80 but close enough that you will hear the big trucks all night so open windows are a problem. Plenty of parking but some is gravel. The rooms are reasonably clean and the addition of frigs,HD TVs and microwaves are nice. OK, the things not working quite as well. The owners are not friendly and I was asked if I had pets three times at check in. You have to haul your bags up a flight of stairs as there is no elevator. Bathrooms are very small and this property is showing its age. Breakfast consist of cereal and make your own waffles. Beds are VERY uncomfortable and the bedding and towels are very low grade. At $75 per night this did not represent the value I expected. read more

I was going to give 3 stars due to the Clean-ish non-smoking room, but no clock radio and ice on ALL of the outside walkways (as well as the parking lot) changed my mind. Front desk staff was borderline rude when I checked in - reminding me 3 times that checkout was at 11am. If the roads hadn't been so bad, we would have stopped somewhere else. read more

I would recommend staying ANYWHERE else. Including your own car. It might be warmer and more hospitable. There are no plows for the snow packed parking lot and the owners have not "ordered" salt for the ice that will no doubt force you to stay over an extra two hours while you wait for a tow truck. Asked owners for help in getting out of the parking lot and repeatedly were told we were basically crap out of luck. The room was decently clean though, which is the only reason I gave any stars. If the option was available I'd leave none. read more

Beds are too hard. Rooms are nice, though. They don't have an atm or any salt for the parking lot and the shovel they have is very flimsy. My car is stuck in snow and ice and they have not offered to help or call anyone. I shoveled the car out by myself the best I could. Super clean, either new or remodeled. Nicest Super 8 I've ever seen. Nothing really near it but the highway, so we picked up dinner on the way. Pet friendly, fridge in room, very reasonably priced, and very polite and pleasant staff. Super clean. Beautiful room. Many outlets. I don't normally stay at Super 8s- but not many choices in Kimball. So I did it. It's possible this is the cleanest, best decorated Super 8 on the planet. I've stayed all over the state- and would never have expected to be posting pics of funky faux-mid-century hotel decor from Kimball. The heater/AC looked brand new, so no problems there. I bring my own white-noise so didn't hear any semis. Would give 5 stars but the mattress wasn't 5 stars- a bit firm for me. Pillows a bit small. Decent breakfast though. Would stay again. Many times better than the 2 Days Inns I stayed at on this trip. read more

No stars, we called and made reservations hours before we got there, being military we got a discounted rate on a room. When we got there we paid and signed the paperwork. No other charges were present on it. When we left that morning we noticed on our account they charged us extra. When we called they said that since we were walk ins it costs more. ??? We told them that we called and made reservations, the person said that "well I wasn't the one who booked you so you have to call back later tonight" we asked "ok what's his name?" Then they just hung up on us. Now we're in the pursuit to settle this dispute while on the road. We will NOT be staying at a super 8/Wyndham hotel again. read more

We stayed here on our long cross-country drive from Chicago to the Bay Area. It's very clean and the rooms seem updated. I was surprised at the quality because you usually don't expect that from a Super 8. If you're doing a long drive like we did, I recommend making reservations in advance here because there aren't many options when you get to this part of Nebraska. Also, there's not many places to get food once you arrive. There's a Pizza Hut in town (and also maybe a Subway?), but that's about it. Just FYI! read more

Very rude! My 4 year daughter and I asked for the assistance and the man working was extremely rude to us. I would never stay here and would never recommend anyone staying here. NOT A FRANCHISE. People were rude, room was so-so, hallways smelled of smoke. Towels were small, Bed like a salad bowl. It made my back worse. Breakfast was bare minimal. Dry cereal, OJ and make it yourself waffles. The photo is not the correct one. It had 2 entrances and someone kept jamming the door open with pamphlets. I had a problem with the owner who refused to answer my calls. I called them about 8 times and they would not pick up the phone after a while. I called SUPER 8 HQ and they said that it was NOT A SUPER 8 since June of 2014. It's not a sanctioned franchise. The HQ said that they are not responsible for anything that goes on there. I left something there and asked them to send it priority 2 day and gave them a credit card. They refused to ship it and it finally arrived 27 days after I stayed there. They shipped it collect and it cost me about 3 times what priority would cost. I would warn everyone to stay clear of the place. There is no one to correct their behavior. They are doing business with the old sign and it wasn't cheap or any kind of deal. read more

The guy at the desk knew I was coming because I had just called him and said I'd be there in five. Five minutes later, I walked into a closed off vestibule the size of a closet and nobody was around. Nothing but a warning on the glass about a $100 extra pet charge for unreported pets and a white phone. After picking it up and dialing 0, he finally picked after many rings that I could hear and didn't come out for several minutes. Meanwhile, I'm standing in a blocked off room with bulletproof glass. Think about that. Even if there is some crime spree I don't know about in Kimball, NE (pop. 2400) then this guy is trapping his customers for a robber to have his way while he sleeps in his panic room. Fittingly, he came out, saw my 12 lb. dog and interrogated me about whether he would poop in the room in thee different ways. Is he trained? Yes. Will he make a mess in the room? No. Will he soil the new carpet? (Haven't we covered this?) No other pets? He then disappeared to process or something for about ten minutes. This really felt like being grilled by the police. I was tired 'cause it was late; that sign staring me in the face; the silence; the 3rd degree. I remembered the turtles! Traveling across the country, never gave a 2nd thought to my 2 aquatic turtles at any hotel. But here, I cracked! His bad cop routine works! I called him over and confessed. Same questions about the turtles. will they make a mess? (Yeah, they're gonna leap out of their tank, soil your carpet and fly back into their tank!) I explained that it's like having a plant in the room. They stay in the tank, nothing to worry about. They're pets. $10 extra each! I should've walked away at that point, but by now, I was suffering from Stockholm syndrome. This guy is good! Bleary eyed and worn down, I heard one more warning about pets not allowed in the breakfast room and walked to my 2nd story room, defeated, and having to lug the turtle tank upstairs. Pets welcome? This joint is about as pet-friendly as a slaughterhouse. So if you want belligerence, a shakedown, insults about your pets and to serve as human shield for a malcontent, then you've found the right place! read more
