BEWARE SOLO FEMALE TRAVELERS - Overcharging, Misrepresentation, and Predatory Behavior I feel compelled to share for the safety and awareness of fellow travelers. On 2/14/24 around 6pm I arrived after seeing high reviews on Google and booking.com. booking.com and the Super 8 website both listed the basic rooms at $55 per night. However, upon arriving at the hotel and requesting a room, the front desk employee informed me that the room rate would be $70 per night. Despite showing him the online listings for $55/night, the employee insisted he had no control over the pricing but offered a "discount" bringing the cost to $60/night. I agreed to expedite the check in process. I requested an itemized receipt which he was hesitant to provide, and when he did give me one I had been charged $61 instead of the $60 he said. I didn't complain because I just wanted to be done with the check in. He then pointed me to my room which was about as close to the check in desk as you could get. I left to grab my bag but something didn't feel right so I double-checked the Super 8 website which explicitly showed that there were $55/night rooms available at this location. I returned to the front desk and showed the employee the Super 8 website showing the $55 rate, at which point he claimed it was the member price and later stating it was due to an online discount, both of which turned out to be untrue. The combination of the employees shady evasive behavior and the location of the room he put me in made me incredibly uncomfortable and at this point I told him I no longer felt comfortable staying there and requested a refund. The employee then demanded the itemized receipt back, which I refused, before finally proceeding with the refund. On the refund receipt he put the reason for refund being "guest has problem with rate", when in actuality it was me having a problem with him lying. Nowhere on the Super 8 website, including under additional rate details, is there wording indicating that the rates displayed online are an "online only" rate or discount. The clerk also used other excuses as to why the rate he was charging me was different than the online rate - It wasn't until I returned to the front desk a second time (and after other excuses) that he told me it was an online discount. After leaving and checking the Super 8 website again, it became evident that he had likely booked me into the most expensive suite (listed at $70/night) without my consent and without telling me, despite requesting a basic room. He failed to disclose this upgrade and provided false information about the $55 rate, claiming it was a member price or due to an online discount, both of which were untrue. I believe he purposefully did this so that my room would be in close proximity to him. I STRONGLY urge that management look into this and that prospective guests, especially women traveling alone, look for lodging elsewhere. The employee in question has almond/honey skin-tone, a foreign accent, and a letter "J." inked on an inner forearm. The employee was not wearing a nametag and did not give me his name. I firmly believe this employee was preying on me. EDIT: The hotel continues to respond back saying that after I was quoted $70 and I showed the desk clerk the $55 online rate they informed me I could book the room online for that rate. That is absolutely untrue - the clerk used other excuses as to why the rate he was charging me was different than the online rate - It wasn't until I returned to the front desk a second time (and after other excuses) that he told me it was an online discount. I replied to the hotel that if they produce the surveillance/CCTV footage and I am mistaken, I will remove all of my negative reviews of this super 8. I hope they do because the footage will also show me avidly and clearly asking the clerk WHY he didn't tell me the online rate is if you book online only AT THE BEGINNING of this interaction when I showed him the rate on my phone. read more

Stayed for one night. Everything was clean. Pretty normal for a Super 8. Breakfast was a little different than what you might expect. They had boiled eggs instead of scrambled. But not not bad overall. read more

Super 8s can be hit or miss and this was a VERY CLEAN one! When driving across the country I got sick and took a couple days off, and also had a problem with my truck, this was a great safe location and convenient area right off the interstate to get suck for a couple days. Staff was great and extra thank you to the cleaning lady to let me use her jumper box when I woke up to a dead battery and AAA road service was completely useless as usual. Also when I was feeling terrible and really needed to do some laundry. my room just happened to be right next to the washer and dryer and that was huge seeing I had zero energy. read more

Booked this place through a Priceline deal of $38+tax/night. It had its ups and downs. Pros: Friendly staff. While the breakfast is limited, they do have a waffle maker that makes decent waffles. There is a coffee maker in the room, as well as a microwave and fridge. A somewhat generous supply of toiletries. Decent selection of cable channels--some of which you usually don't get when staying in a hotel. Cons: Room 107 had a very musty smell to it. Window was dirty and didn't look like it had been cleaned in some time. Mattress was extra firm and very uncomfortable; the only pillows available were large, oversized ones. Toilet flushed itself every 30-40 minutes. To access the free wi-fi, you have to watch an advertisement. I find that cheap and tacky. Overall, I wouldn't rush to book a room here, mainly due to the bedding. read more

Only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because it's a little out dated. The price definitely makes up for that though. I would recommend for anyone traveling and needing a cheap place to stay. Please keep in mind that I'm giving this hotel a 4-star rating WITHIN hotels in its class. This is nowhere near a luxury or even fancy accommodation. However, for its price and class, I found it perfectly fine. We had a two-Queen room. Exactly what I expected, very clean, great toiletries like others mentioned. I really liked both the mattress and pillow quality. I will actually miss that mattress, lol! The staff was friendly; they checked in with us each day as to what level we wanted the room serviced. I feel there have been incremental upgrades made to the room. Breakfast is basic choices, and the breakfast area is kept very tidy. Also, we were in town for a funeral, and they gave all of our family members a slight discount, which I appreciated. One con--the hallways smell heavily of cigarette smoke, so if you're sensitive to that, it could be a problem. Our room did NOT have that smell. read more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night while attending a friend's wedding. While getting ready for the wedding, we asked the hotel for their iron and ironing board. My husband was ironing his very nice, very expensive shirt and the iron spit out rust and dirt all over the shirt, ruining it. The hotel refused to compensate more than $20 dollars for the $40 dollar shirt. (We had the receipt to prove its worth) We also had to spend another $15-20 on another shirt and we were late to the wedding. They have lost our businesses. read more

I'm not sure what others are complaining about. If you stay at a Super 8, it's not very reasonable to compare it to a luxury resort. I prefer to rate a place compared to similar offerings or services in the same sort of location. I'm comparing it to other moderately-priced hotels located on the interstate of small towns, not the Bellagio in Vegas. We arrived very late at night and the only room available was a king suite for a very reasonable rate. The room was clean and comfortable. It appeared to have been recently updated. The linens were about what you expect at this price point, but the mattress appeared new and was comfortable. There were plenty of good towels, and the shower had good water pressure and temp. Yes, you have to watch an ad to get on the free wi-fi. Get over it. It takes less than 30 seconds, just enough time to pour a cup of coffee and get settled in your chair. Big deal. The free breakfast is the usual fare plus fresh, hot waffles. An attendant keeps the area spotless and supplies well-stocked. They had fresh fruit and yogurts, which I appreciated. The only minor complaint I can think of is that the air conditioning is a bit loud, but it didn't run that much and wasn't a big deal. All hotels have loud ACs. Can't imagine I'll be back through Ogallala, but if I ever find myself there again, I'd get a room at this hotel again. read more

Ogallala must be a happening place cause this was one of only two hotels with rooms available. I did not have very high hopes, but it was actually ok. The room was clean, and the staff was friendly. The beds did have those awful cheap hotel comforters that I hate! The breakfast wasn't great either...just cereal and waffles. Oh...and wait until you see the "cleaning ladies". Stayed here a few years ago, it was nice then and just as nice now. Maybe even nicer because we saw 6 dogs here, pets of guests. Stayed in room 215 and had a great night's sleep, but set our alarm for 6 AM and was promptly awakened at 5 AM by the alarm in the next room over. Shower water pipes were loud that morning as well, when people were getting up, we could hear the pipe noise travel into our room. Staff is very friendly, the breakfast served was great, and aside from the minor inconvenience of the sound proofing or lack there of, this was a great place to stay. read more

Stopped here to stay the night during our move- chiefly because it was a good price and pet friendly. The room was extremely musty and strange smelling. Carpets didn't seem too clean either. Everything else seemed clean enough. The staff were friendly and very attentive during the included breakfast. Breakfast was nothing too special. Okay for the price, but we would not go again. Clean....that's what matters to me. What matters to you? Beds were comfortable, but we aren't fussy with that. Address that we got somewhere online was wrong, so make sure you are headed to the right spot or you will land up at the end of a gravel road at the bottom of a hill. **SCAM**DO NOT GET GAS NEXT DOOR AT FAT DOGS CONOCO; they charge $.60 more than they advertise (see countless Yelp reviews). I have never seen this done before and can't believe it is legal or that locals would allow this place to represent them. Who owns this place? OGALLALA, please make your town welcome to travelers...That being said this Super 8 was clean and what we needed for a quick stay over but please tell customers not to get gas next door. read more

If I could give this hotel negative stars, I would. I got the last available room which cost $100 on a Thursday night- although the faded sign on the door said the average week night rate was $58.88 for the room. The room was supposed to be a non-smoking double queen room. However, it had very obviously been smoked in as entering the room was very similar to entering a billiards parlor at 2AM. Nothing in the room had been updated (and possibly not cleaned) since 1979. The beds were actually two twin sized mattresses that were basically army cots...made of rocks. The water in the shower got so insanely hot when turned to warm, it burnt my hand. During the night I could hear the neighbors move around in their bed via my headboard and most likely paper mâché walls. I was too frightened to read past yelp reviews while actually staying in the hotel, and I am puzzled as to discover it has received 3 stars in the past ....... Because one star is one too many. On the bright side, it's a step up from a crack house and I didn't see any bed bugs. read more

People were friendly. Room was spotless and everything worked correctly. Great shower (nice selection of toiletries) and a good breakfast. Place smelled clean (big deal for me). The night I was there it was quiet. Only reason I didn't give it five stars was that to get their free wifi you had to watch a commercial - tacky. read more

Checked in at 3:30am and was told that they allowed 12:00 late checkout's. After we had a candid discussion of how long I had been driving, I asked the clerk to make a note that I would be leaving at noon. I went to my room immediately, HUNG THE DO NOT DISTURB sign and went to sleep only to be awoken at 10:00 by BANGING ON THE DOOR. When I opened the door I found absolutely no one but noticed a camera in the hallway. I called the front desk to ask if it was them or just some bored kid performing a juvenile prank... After stating my case the desk clerk informed me "he thought I may have had to move my car but it appears now that is completely unnecessary." I'm obviously tired and cranky but this seems incredibly unprofessional. HAD MY CAR NEEDED to be moved I would have been LESS PISSED off, at least the waking would have been functional. It seems like the front desk clerk didn't check his notes and ignored the sign on the door and then was embarrassed about it and fled when he heard me coming to the door... It's a nice example of a super8 but don't try to catch up on sleep in here. They won't let you. read more

Granted, I've only been here for an hour, but I came into the room to find no toilet paper at all, and the desk drawer with the hotel amenities list is sticky and completely molded! The book is disgusting. I can't even see what time breakfast is through the mold on it. The outside doors are labeled "always locked" but weren't locked. So far, not a good experience. read more

Ok. You have to rate rooms as what your paying for! This is not a Marriott. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The property is older. But the room is clean. The beds are also older but the sheets are clean and fresh. So if your looking for a mint on your pillow and fold down service not so much for you. If your looking to get sleep and not get attitude from hotel staff. This is your place. read more
