I was a tad hesitant due to it…read morebeing a random motel in the middle of nowhere but it came recommended by a friend so I booked a room ($75 per night) and I am glad I did!! It's a cute little motel right off the side of the road just outside Julesburg. Slightly dated decor but everything was super duper clean - including the exterior of the building and the bedding, floors and the bathroom inside the room. There is a large mini fridge and a microwave in the room and our room had plenty of closet space. It is right next to the railroad tracks which didn't bother me but if you're not used to trains it may keep you awake for a little bit at night as the trains were running several times per hour all through the night. Make sure you call ahead when you're about 15 minutes out as my fiancé had to call when he got there and had to wait a few minutes for the owner/front desk manager to drive over and give him the keys and run his card. Checkout was a breeze - we just left the key in the room per instructions and got back on the road.

There was an odd odor, there were dead bugs on the floor, tons of flies buzzing around, and stains on the bedding. The worst part though is that there was glass in the designated "pet area" outside. Only $10 extra for pets, but no guarantee your pet won't step on glass. Also, it's ridiculous to charge extra for pets when the place is so disgusting to begin with.

And I got so much more space for my money than hotels offer, since there were 3 of us she gave me the conjoining room with 3 beds and she didn't charge any extra for our puppy!!!! What a win! Once upon a time I was in graduate school and doing a lot of work out in western Nebraska -- Imperial especially. On my first trip out, following the habits of my research group, I went to make a reservation at the motel in town, which was full and whose staff recommended I check the Balcony House. I am eternally grateful. My entire research group's enthusiasm for traveling to Imperial improved after this event. Jim and Linda are fantastic hosts. Their home is unbelievably charming and well cared for. I've stayed with them probably a half-dozen or more times (I think I've slept in every room), and each time I am in awe of their business. Fresh coffee and cookies, always. Linda is the most exceptional cook, whose meals make my mouth water thinking of them now. One time I was there, Linda had injured wrists, and Jim was in charge of breakfasts. Those were outstanding too -- though he quickly admitted that if you stayed longer than three days, you'd start getting repeats. There was one time that I was coming to Imperial and they were FULL (stupid hunting season!). I had to stay at that motel after all, even after vowing I never would. You know what Jim and Linda said? They told me to COME OVER FOR BREAKFAST anyway, even though I would be staying at the motel. They are the salt of the earth. I am so very fortunate to have gotten to know them over the years. p.s. If you're in town for a lunch, I *love* M&M's Natural Jazz. The Reubens (regular and turkey) are spectacular. If you're gluten-free, they got you covered. Imperial is a special place. I wish I still had excuses to visit regularly.

She was so pleasant and professional. Wish I would have got her name. We found our selves in a 4th floor room at the end of the hall with great pillows and a comfortable king sized bed. I slept so well. The air conditioning allowed for a cool room and a nice hum to drown out my husband's snoring. The shade kept it so dark. Did I mention I slept so well?! Breakfast was great. Scrambled eggs were fresh and hot. Oatmeal had fresh toppings. I even liked that they had an open milk container so I didn't have to open one of those cardboard milk cartons for my oatmeal then throw out 3/4 of it. Cudos to the breakfast manager. Great stop!

Our entire family was in awe of the beauty of the Prairie all around on the drive to this little slice of heaven. An old yellow house on a sprawling property. Our boys got to experience what it's like out in the countryside of this part of Nebraska. They fed llama's, swung in a big old tree swing, tossed some horseshoes and slept comfortably under the sound of a rainstorm on the roof. Everything is lush and green. Our hosts are very good people to know. We ate dinner at an old café down the road and enjoyed the burgers and chicken strips for the kids. The locals here treated us very nice. I found this little town remarkable and so rich in history that it overwhelmed my senses in a wonderful way. The sky at dusk and early morning are spectacular.

There's a lovely patio area, and a beautiful living and dining area inside. The lawn comes complete with lawn games and an old-fashioned tree swing. Dave will cook up fantastic meals to order and take care of your every need. Additionally, the small (nay, tiny) town is perfect for wandering, and features a lovely playground, a (sometimes open) swimming pool, a library that's open for a few hours on Tuesdays and Fridays, a one-man farmer's market on Friday, and the Most Unlikely Place, an art gallery and cafe that's lives up to its name. The few people you find here are kind, curious, sociable, and generally delightful. You'd think all this would come at a sky-high price, but the prices are equal to or better than any of the chain hotels in Ogallala. For about 20 extra minutes of driving off the beaten path of Highway 80, you'll find an oasis of peace, beauty, and goodwill. Be forewarned, though: one night here will have you wanting more!

There are 2 beds in the room, a phone, a shower, toilet, sink, fridge, AC, TV. All of them in solid working order. There is not a microwave or coffee maker in the room. There is No pool. There is a washer and dryer by the front desk and if you ask nice, the desk lady might call your room when your load needs moving. The "breakfast" consists of toast, juice, and coffee. Recommend bringing your own. There is a microwave in the breakfast area and there are vending machines near the front desk although we didn't explore those options. There is a breakfast place in town, but it's closed on holidays. The grounds were pretty. There's a grassy area in the back that was well maintained. There's some really fun art and decorations inside and out. Very home town. They offered daily housekeeping, but we seemed to be in the room every time they came by (very early! 8:30am!) so we didn't actually get service during our 5 night stay...but that's our fault not theirs. And it didn't really matter to us. The staff is so kind. They have a candy dish up from which they encouraged our kids to take from every day. The ladies talked with our kiddos every time we walked by. So nice and helpful. If you go into this hotel with managed expectations (it's a 1 star level) then you will feel it's fine. I felt safe and clean enough. It's not perfect and needs a facelift for sure- it hasn't been updated since it was a super 8 (the phones are proof!), but it was fine for us when we visited for a class reunion and if you are there for hunting or work, it'll do.
