I was a Newbury St. coiffed snob for years--Frank Xavier, James Joseph, etc. Then, I got married, had a baby, stopped commuting into the big city, and couldn't justify paying $70.00 for a simple trim. During my first visit to Supercuts, I was so nervous, I completely insulted the hair stylist when I asked her not to "chop" it. I guess the snobbery accidentally spilled over. Thankfully, she did not take it out on my hair, and I was very pleasantly surprised. The haircut I got there was practically as good as Newbury St., and only $13.95 (using my $1 web coupon). I've been going to Supercuts now for 5 years, and have only had one below average experience. I quickly learned who I could trust, and to ask for that person by name. There is a fairly high turn-over rate, so I've created a list of 2-3 hair stylist I like. I also often opt for the wash & cut for $16.95 (using my $1 web coupon), because I feel they can do a better job when my hair is clean, conditioned, and wet. read more

The customer service is absolutely horrific. The person who ruined my head pretended not to speak English despite speaking it fine to a coworker inbetween yelling at me. She did not give me the haircut I asked for or showed her. I asked her to stop cutting as it was already too short and she didn't listen. Not only is it not the right style but I have bald patches all over my head. Then they had the audacity to ask for a 20% tip. I can't leave my room without a hat and my dysphoria is even worse than it was. Avoid at all costs. read more

I had an appointment with Stephanie M. for full foil highlights. Long story short she over processed and fried my hair. She left my hair copper, platinum blonde, with gray and silver instead of the blonde I wanted. When I went in the next morning for a refund, The girl who helped me was mortified. She immediately with no hesitation gave me my refund, but that still doesn't take away the principle of the fact that now my hair is ruined, falling out in chunks, and isn't even colored evenly. Later when I was told the manager would be in, I called as I was getting my hair fixed by someone else. Stephanie also happens to be the manager and the one who did my hair and kept making excuses trying to blame me and the girl who fixed my hair for my hair being ruined. All her sentences started with 'Well you" Never gave an apology. I hung up on her after I was tired of her excuses, so just know that's the manager you're dealing with. I will be calling supercuts corporate today and ensuring someting is done aside from a refund. I had a stylist (who I will not name unless asked), give me the best fringe, but the WORST sideburn job. I wanted to make sure I didn't look shaggy for my pregnancy photos and engagement photos. I asked that she clean up my sideburns. She shaved HALF of my sideburns off and made some horrifying shape that I couldn't even imagine someone could come up with. I thought maybe it was the picture I showed her of the lady's fringe I wanted...that maybe she thought I wanted the sideburns too. Nope, what she did look NOTHING like that. I looked at a past picture of my natural hairline which is far more straight down pointy, and half inch more down my face. Not to mention I went back in 5 minutes later for her to fix it (one side didn't match the other). When I went back to my car after she "fixed it", my fiance mentioned that the hair that she butchered off wasn't even fully shaved. It looked like my natural sideburns growing back after 2 minutes of leaving Supercuts. I went back in for a second time after calming down in the parking lot, and the manager cleaned it up and just said there was nothing else she could do as if I didn't know that. You can't fix jacked up sideburns that are cut ridiculously short at the most horrendous angle. She said "It'll grow back". That's great, it'd grow back in 2 hours? How about by every Thursday when I take weekly pregnancy photos. The whole point of the haircut was so I wouldn't regret what I looked like. I know it's supercuts, but I didn't think the words "clean up the sides" could be misinterpreted. Do not tell me they're just sideburns. Most pregnancy photos are taken from the side. Not sure how she got "clean up the sides" and interpreted it as "shave the ends and make this woman have sideburns that point to her nose and not the ground". HORRIFYING. I am one of those people who says "it'll always grow back"...but this, no, this is outrageous. read more

I can not understand how this Supercuts stays in business. It has to be the most unprofessionally run business, not to mention hair 'salon'. Today was the third time I made an appointment for my son only to have Supercuts call me to tell me that they made a scheduling error and that the person we made an appointment with was leaving at the time of our appointment. I guess you get what you pay for. I will never go or bring any of my children to Supercuts in Salem again. Pitiful. read more

This is my 2nd review. My grandkids and myself have been going here fo the last 5 years. Jessie Gunn had always made us feel comfortable and welcome. I called there to make an apt with Jessie. I was greeted with "she don't work here no more". I nicely asked "do you know where she is now?", I got a very chilly "no". All of this wrapped in a rude and condescending tone. Well, I was finally able to book a time for my COVID-cut (tip #1, call as early in the morning as possible or right at 8am). These guys book up FAST! Anyway, I camera-ready Covid-cut and it was exactly how I wanted it and just what I needed (it'd been 6 months of using a beard trimmer and some fingernail clippers). So these folks only have 2 stylists at a time and have to disinfect for 10 mins after each appointment, making it tough to get a time slot for a cut. You'd think that Supercuts corporate would reallocate some of the stylists from the other store across town (which is less popular it seems). But these gals are great, and I look forward to my next visit (hopefully in less than 6 months). read more

It's tough to review a place like Supercuts. There's such a high turnover of staff there one day you could have the most pleasant experience and the next feel like your head is being butchered. Today was a pleasant experience. +1 star for the very friendly girl who cut my hair. When I showed up here this afternoon I was told it'd be a forty minute wait. Not wanting to wait that long, but desperately in need of a shearing, I took a seat and thumbed through the magazine selection. Thankfully, they had GQ and Men's Journal and not just things like Car and Driver and Sports Illustrated that apparently are supposed to entertain all men. +1 more star for decent magazines to choose from. The third star comes for the pleasant surprise that this location has not increased their price like other locations. Still $14.95, unlike the slightly more convenient (for me) Danvers location which has gone up to $15.95. So, if you're low maintenance and economical about your hair, I recommend this location. read more

I thought I had nice hair when I walked in. I asked for the same style, but shorter. Somehow the woman with the scissors (I refuse to say "barber" or "hairstylist" because she was neither) thought that meant "You must want a short bowl cut!" When I left, I was a little annoyed that she took a blow dryer to my hair and didn't do ANY styling after that, but I think that might've been on purpose just so I didn't see how terrible she made me look. To add insult to injury, my haircut here cost me more than my normal barber. I didn't want to go because it's a bit of a longer drive. If I had known how ridiculous this lady would make me look, I would've saved myself the money and frustration. Literally go anywhere else. Chop off your own hair. Just don't go to a Supercuts of any kind, in any location, ever. read more

Getting an appointment with her is near impossible as I am guessing they violate there "no appointment policy" when it comes to certain people. I have literally started calling at 7:59 AM in an effort to get an appointment. I usually get through at 8:03 to find out that the stylist that I want is booked for the day? Right, do the math! When you walk in, you are usually met with a scowl at the front desk, where they say, "Did you call ahead?......Oh no, well you're looking at 45 minutes to an hour wait, are you sure you want to wait??" They are basically telling you they don't want to cut your hair. Anyway, I took my 5th grade son there last night and now he is currently in guidance unable to face his classmates. He wanted a trim and she butchered him. Just because she had a whiffle, didn't mean he did. He left the chair and went to the car crying before I could pay. I should have known not to let her cut his hair, but I didn't want to judge. Now what do I do? Wait for it to grow back before he goes back to school? Be careful. read more

Supercuts has really gone up on their prices, your better off going to a barber or proper saloon. My son's haircut was $38.00 men's cut, my partial highlight $150.00 8 highlights, are you kidding me? I've been to downtown fancy hairdressers and have a had a full highlight for less than that. I was shocked. My son needs his hair cut again, and I'm referring him to downtown. Supercuts are pricing themselves out of business. Last couple of times I've been there, the cut is nothing special, no style, just a basic cut and for the price, I've should of been wowed or at least felt good about it. For almost 20 years I had my haircut at Vidal Sassoon in New York. Only two people cut my hair during that period of time but for the most part I went to the stylist downtown in Greenwich Village. She was super. She did an amazing job but was quite expensive. No problem at that time because both my husband and myself were working. Now we are retired and having to watch our money. For the past five years I have been to at least 8 stylists in Marblehead. Long story short, I was always complaining. Not so much about the cut that was expensive but the fact that every now and then I would get a bad haircut from the same person who had formerly given me a good cut. Also, I got tired of one of the stylists asking me to move an already booked appointment to suit her. So, I started asking my neighbors where they got their haircut and the same stylist's name kept coming up. Her name is Lakinah and she works at Supercuts. She does a fantastic job. Every bit as good as the $135 cut from Vidal Sassoon and all the other high priced stylists in Marblehead. She is a lovely person. Never condescending to us old folks either. Called ahead for a child's haircut. There were 4 women working and one customer in the chair. We waited at least 15 minutes while one swept the floor, one counted money, one escaped out back and the fourth finished up and chatted with the one counting money. Finally time for the haircut. A disaster. I think it was the hairdressers first time cutting hair. Coworker had to help fix it. It was unfixable. Never again. read more

I have been going to this Supercuts for a wash, cut and blow dry for a couple years now and have always had a good experience. Today I was told the blow dry price jumped from $10 - $30! That's something you should try to tell your customers about BEFORE they walk in for service (maybe in an email blast or something?). Or give them one grandfathered in blow dry if they do walk in to your store. I've always just been a walk in customer but now I'm unclear if they would rather you call or not? I'm not sure, but communications could be a lot better. Anyway, I was aggravated by the price jump and finding out in that manner so I ended up walking out and getting my wash, cut and blow dry down the street for $30 (BTW, my hair takes very little time to blow dry). Are they trying to discourage the blow dry? Maybe I guess...Anyway I was discouraged out of the wash and cut too. Too bad. read more

I am relatively new to the North Shore area and I have been searching for the right hairdresser ever since I moved here. Experienced friendly service n a great hair cut from young lady named Lajuanna. Super personable n genuinely seemed to care about my experience, she cut my hair till I thought it looked perfect n even cleaned me with a heated towel, I felt like royalty. It felt like a 30 dls for half the price. Plus being able to choose her as my stylist on the app guarantees I keep getting top notch service. Was my favorite place. But have come at various times over the past 4 months and no matter when I come it's a lengthy wait from 45 mins to 2 hours. It has turned into a traditional hair salon where appointments are necessary, which does not comport with my schedule. I will no longer be coming back.
