If you like to cook you can't help but love this store. They've got pretty much everything!!! Going to SLT is akin to how I felt when I my parents would take me to Toys R' Us as a kid. I want to try their cooking classes, but they're kinda pricey. They seem to have a pretty neat setup though. When I was in there one time after a class had just finished, the whole place smelled AMAZING! Reason I took a star off is that they charge more than some other places. It's convenient and in a nice area, so I believe there is markup. $18 cedar planks at Sur La Table = $15 cedar planks at Central Market = the SAME cedar planks at Tom Thumb for $11. I like to think I'm a pretty decent cook, so when my parents took me here a few years back, before I got serious about it, it was just another day with the folks, and I never looked back. When they brought me back year, it has become my downfall. I have yet to walk in the store and not leave w/o dropping at least $50 on kitchen supplies. Took a cooking class here. The menu was delicious. It was fun cooking and doing all the prep work without having to worry up about cleaning up afterwards. That alone makes it a 5 star experience lol. They had alot of herbs and spices I don't generally cook with and they were all plucked fresh. The cooking class was great, the food we all created was fantastic. The scallops were made in a lemon butter sauce and you really can't go wrong with that. The place is a treasure trove of cooking utensils and devices, most of which I have never heard of and cannot pronounce. Cool place! read more

Okay, I'm torn... On the surface, this place is amazing. I love cooking, so this is my idea of a toy store. I love all the shiny cookware and colorful gadgets that I don't need but reeeeeally want. So I popped in on Saturday while strolling around the Knox area in search of a very fine mesh sieve. After fruitlessly searching around - no prob, there's a lot of stuff in there - I finally decided to ask for help. Let me quickly caveat that I was 1 of about 5 people shopping in the store that day, so finding someone to help should not have been hard... However, as I started looking around, it seriously seemed like the staff was walking AWAY from me. Walking away in groups, no less, chit-chatting about lord-knows-what. When I FINALLY got someone to help me and got what I needed (at a great price, by the way) the woman at the counter was entirely too preoccupied. And when I asked for a pen to sign my receipt with, you would have thought I asked her to hop in her car and run to Office Depot and buy me one. Umm... aren't you supposed to have pens back there? Isn't that how all of the customers sign receipts? So, like I said... I'm torn. I really love this place but that was some of the worst customer service I've experienced in a face-to-face situation in quite a while. read more

Poor quality cooking class. I recently had a chance to spend time with my sister and daughter and decided to schedule a cooking class for fun. We took the great British baking show class. The woman who was younger taught it. She appeared to have no interest in the show and did not mention it. A bit disappointing. They made three things. Sausage rolls-I did not make the pastry and the sausages pork quality. The pastry was rolled to thin per her instructors instructions. What these things produce the poor quality sausage roll. The toffee pudding and Victoria sponge were not inspiring. The class was overcrowded. They had insufficient water to drink. There's no place to sit. And not very comfortable place to be. I was disappointed overall. At $80 times three it was a waste of money read more

Calling All Chefs! Sur La Table is your new destination. Hopefully, you already know about it. It isn't knew but is often overlooked for Williams-Sonoma. I think that might be due to marketing or even to the fact that there are more Williams-Sonoma out there. If you visit SLT, you will see it has a larger selection and many more items for your everyday cook. There prices are more expensive than say Target but this is due to quality. I bought my nespesso machine there as they are one of the few to carry it. Check out their website for their vast catalog and then stop by the store. Great experience with the cooking class here! The instructor we had (Katie I believe) was helpful while letting us take the lead with preparation and baking. They serve complimentary espresso drinks and fruit throughout the class and provide a booklet to take home so you can replicate the item on your own. The staff was very attentive and the 12 person class was perfect in terms of size. We were able to take home the finished macarons, which were the best I've ever had. I had no idea what a little gem there was tucked away in Uptown. The place delights all my senses. The smell of food being made in the kitchen by the cooking classes is divine. The music is always pleasant. The amazing variety of gadgets and gizmos, cookware, dishware, barware, and beyond is my kind of candy in a store. The have everything you could want or need to make the perfect meal, regardless of what type of food it is, from pasta makers, to barbeque and grill tools. Another cook's toy store. And they have a sale at this time of the year, sigh.... I like this place. They know what tye are - a place for cooks to buy stuff. The staff are knowledgeable. There is pretty good variety. I have done several classes there. Some are hands on some not. I saw my idol (Shirley Corriher) there once. I hadher sign my copy of Cookwise. Nice. They got me started on bread baking 3 years ago - they have a lot to answer for on that subject. So why 4 not 5? Some of the syuff is a bit frou-frou (yeah, Chris don't buy that), and I think they are pricy - except when the sale is on! We were out and about enjoying the nice weather, and I finally had a chance to check this place out. We were instantly greeted and offered a cappuccino. My other half lives anything that has to do with cooking, and I knew this would be a great experience. Let me start by saying kitchen gadgets galore! There were innovative items everywhere. The store itself is nicely organized. In addition to gadgets, they have cookware, glassware, spices, and even copper cups. You could literally spend an hour here and still not see everything! I live down the street from this place which makes it that much better. They have all of those gadgets that old french cookbooks call for along with anything that your kitchen may or may not need. They also hold cooking classes at this location. The chefs are very friendly and knowledgeable about cooking techniques and haven't had much difficulty accurately answering the questions that the attendees dish out during class. The prices can be a bit high but if your patient, many things get moved to the clearance rack (including those pricey kitchen appliances). read more

Nice enough store, friendly staff. Wide selection of items, although pricing has taken a turn up there. A pair of thongs, $40, wow. Seems that they have priced themselves higher than WMS. The major issue with this location is the noisy environment they continue to subject customers to. Two of the last three times I've left for the noise. Clerks are restocking and moving items, a task that seems better done during the non-open hours. Then they leave the stock room door open and such sounds coming from there. Subjecting customers to unpleasant noises while trying to have a peaceful shopping experience will certainly drive "us" to shop online or at a quieter location. Surprising The first time I encountered Sur La Table was a long time ago, when it was just a few stores in places Bal Harbour. Then as I recall it was just a place to pay way too much for cutesy items that looked good in your kitchen, or in a photo. Being a cook, I sorta just wrote them off a LONG time ago. Aha! Recently I was sent into this store for something specific. Well, let me say that my attitude has been seriously updated on Sur La Table! I discovered some very knowledgeable staff, good selection of cutlery, and many "real" kitchen goods. In fact each employee that has assisted me appears to have quite a bit of knowledge on almost anything in the store, AND they are friendly and engaging. It's like they enjoy working there :)) I now have a new knife collection started (the old one is going into my museum of tired kitchen stuff). And what's so amazing to me: THE PRICES are LESS than any online outlets!!!!! Yes, at Sur La Table. So, mea culpa after all these years, SLT. I'm a big fan now. Cheers! read more

Very friendly staff here and the cooking classes always look fun. Delicious smells waft into the shop area and really tempt you to sign up. One of these days I'll take one. I typically go here to rifle through the clearance barrels and shelves. I was able to get some steals on baking equipment and cake stands. Normal prices are pretty steep though. read more

No matter how difficult the menu may sound (they're posted online for your drooling pleasure), fret not... they do most of the hard/super time-consuming stuff ahead of time so all you have to do is assemble and EAT! I have taken about a half dozen classes and I've always been disappointed. You are asking yourself why I kept returning. Well, each time I was hoping for better. But alas it was not to be. Classes are not really for those interested in learning. Some parts of the meal are already prepared and you just eat it. Better as a social night out. Classes are too large (and therefore noisy).... four people using one pan on a hot plate! During one class (there were three of us), instructor 'took over' and was sloppy and careless with his flipping hot food in the saute pan right next to us and making a hot mess I cleaned up. One class calling for frisee salad with lardon and poached egg turned out to be spinach with a slice of bacon and one decent egg for four girls to share cause it's impossible for four girls to cook eggs in one pot! So all in all, I'm turning in my apron and will search for a more serious venue. read more

I love x3 this store. I wanted to buy some "healthy" pots and pans for a friend since he is not a cook and mama needs to not be eating out all the time, so naturally this was my preference. I found exactly what I needed with amazing sales, so I was happy. Also, this location has a big, beautiful kitchen where they do a cooking class (or two) almost every single day. Sounds amazing, and I would love to try one some day. There were several (or at least two) people working, and so always someone to help you. The store itself is spacious and adequately filled, and it has a lovely set up. Yes, the place is expensive, but you can get stainless steel and ceramic coated cookware so you don't have toxins leaking into your food or whatever happens. read more

Uh-mazing venue for any self-proclaimed chef or baker - even if your skill is less than perfect. My partner is absolutely loves to cook and bake so we have checked this Place out several times. Each experience has been just as good as the first. The staff are incredibly excited about their products (not to mention very knowledgable), and take the time to answer your questions thoughtfully. They also master offering other suggestions without feeling like you are being "sold" to. On this trip, we went in simply for new icing bags as my partner was making cupcakes that evening. Needless to say, we left with much more. I have noticed that they have a continuous flow of sale items - at really good prices - and we have taken full advantage of that opportunity. **This review is for the cooking class, not the retail store** This cooking class was SO much fun! Chef Sarah was our instructor and there was a second person helping out and doing dishes, etc. I did the Dim Sum class (which I highly recommend) by myself and made 8 steamed shrimp and pork dumplings, 8 fried mushroom dumplings, and 8 egg custard tarts. The room was at half capacity so social distancing was easy and the level of sanitation and hygiene was very high. This is not a class where you will get to know your fellow classmates so if you go alone like I did make sure to chat it up with the chef - they have a ton of good tips and tricks! Each person eat only what they personally made so it felt very safe and germ-free. The food was delicious and I definitely ate enough to consider a full meal! Be aware that it takes a while for the first dish to be completed so consider having a snack before you come since you might not eat for an hour or more after you arrive. Also be aware, they don't have a "restaurant" license so you cannot take any of the hot food home with you! However any shelf-stable items can go home with you, so I was able to take the egg custard tarts home to share with my family. This class is BYOB and they provide water if you don't bring any water with you. I loved how Sarah explained how to treat all of the ingredients and where to purchase them, since most of them were unfamiliar to the group. This class is very hands-on so plan to get dirty and chop and stir! I did a The Cookery cooking class the week before I did this Sur La Table class and I can say that this class is MUCH more hands-on and interactive, but The Cookery class gives you MUCH more food and they provide drinks. Both were great - just something to be aware of! All in all I loved this class and I will be returning with my mom for a girls night in the next couple of months! read more

Ordered gift cards online, 10 days later they admitted the website originally said 5 business days, called 10 days later since I still don't have them, all they could say was "we've updated our website to say 7-10 business days"...a lot of good that does me on December 18th, when I ordered something December 8th, thinking I'd get it by the 13th. Customer service was also rude, offered no alternative, said they were sent regular mail, even though I got an email saying I should be getting tracking shortly...they send Gift Cards with no tracking I was now told...sounds like a fumbled mess. read more

I participated in an in store cooking class In September 2017. Our entire evening was ruined when the recipe was incorrect. The food was inedible. 1. The head chef directed our class, and should have been able to recognize an issue with a recipe. 2. He should have tested a new recipe 3. We barely got an apology from him and left hungry at 9 pm. It was an "well, guess that didn't work out....corporate shouldn't have sent me a bad recipe" 4. I had to go out to eat and spend additional money after I already spend $140 on the class 5. When I contacted the corporate office, I didn't get a reply (except from the web admin who said they would pass it to management) This is the 5-6 cooking class I have attended but the first and last with this company. This place kicks ass. I took a cooking class last night on sauces. Fun hands on learning. You can't imagine what an ass whip making hollandaise is, but damn it was good. Nice store, full of excellent products for the kitchen, some hard to find and always something interesting. They also offer a free knife sharpening service, which I was excited about since I had recently bought a very nice handmade Gyuto in Tokyo and was still afraid to attempt sharpening it myself as the blade is blue steel which is very hard and can be brittle. I brought it to Sur La Table, and made sure to let them know of my concerns about the delicate nature of the knife, and they reassured me that this was no problem. Turns out, this wonderful "sharpening service" consists of them walking to the back and running your knives through a chintzy (yet expensive, as I would soon find out) electronic sharpener. When they handed my knife back to me, it was not sharpened at all, to the contrary the previously mirror-finish edge was marred by crude swirl marks from the cheap, dry stones of the machine. I had to ship the knife off to a professional sharpener to have it repaired. Afterwards, despite my disgust, they attempted to sell the same machine to me. Needless to say, I didn't buy it. read more

This place is awesome! If you are a food nut like me you can buy anything for kitchen or cooking here. I can't believe I didn't know of this place. I plan on making date night with my wife here at least a couple times a year "cooking classes". There are so many interesting cooking utensils here and the folks working there are very knowlegeable about the products and friendly. I was there for a contest for the next Masterchef reality tv show, and it was a blast. I never knew there were so many people who were so passionate like me about cooking. Where have you been all my life!! After dinner in the area, I walked by and saw really cute kitchen "essentials" so I had to walk in. This is what I imagine food network to smell like if there was Eau de Food Network. The sales associates were so nice and friendly and as I wandered around, just taking everything in and making mental notes for my Christmas wish list, I heard clamoring and laughter around the corner. Cooking classes! I listened in and watched for a minute as I was reading their class brochure and it seemed so well done. Different stations, the teacher walking around helping, fresh ingredients... Well, this is not my first time I've had a bad experience at this sur la Table..... I frequent them for their champagne cork, I t's perfect for gifting and one of my personal favorite things. Now my bad review is not on my customer service experience with employees assistance within the store, but both of my checkout experiences. Both times they have not accepted either of my cards because their registers are outdated and do not accept chip, which to my understanding is now required in most retail stores within the US. My first experience, the lady scoffed at me and literally told me to take my business elsewhere...... WOW, I think her name was Deborah. Luckily I had no time to "go elsewhere" and had cash on hand. Should've known not to come through a second time when their machine yet again would not swipe, I offered my Id, and was told they could not do manual transactions. My grandmother bought me a gift card here to take a cooking class. We chose the farm to table class. There are two different types of classes there are the classes of the food you want to eat and the classes of the food you actually want to cook. We took the class of something we wanted to learn to cook. All the recipes were about moderately difficulty (in my eyes). We were taught how to prep produce, about certain butters, what utensils to use for what, new utensils, and many other fun stuff. The following review will sound a little crazy and if i sound like a kid well that's because i was. Seeing this place online when i was just looking for a chef's knife online liked what i seen and found the location and take me awhile to go. Getting their upset me because i hate driving downtown and knox reminded me of that one way streets just aren't fun at all. What to be 6 parking spots outside i was like wow this place is tiny. Once i walked up to the place and stepped inside i swear to you the little girls 360 head turn in the Exorcists wouldn't have been nothing on my reaction to looking around this place. The biggest smile came over my face because I'm a serious cook and when it comes to my kitchen call me Gordon Ramsay. They had everything i ever wanted for the kitchen mixing bowls,stainless pots,pie tins,garlic presses. You didn't have to pull my arm for me to drop $250 on kitchen supplies. A simple hello can i help you from a staff member about a set of all-clad cookware turned into a 8 minute conversation and a sale. Most of the time when you go to stores they offer "their brand" of something and it turns out to be crap. Not here the Sur La Table brand is awesome you won't go wrong. Seems to be super easy way to meet other foodies as well. They offer cooking classes to? What are they trying to do keep me here.
