Brand new boater here. Just purchased a 26' Crownline Bowrider from Kehls. I originally met Tom…read moreKehl at the Covid Boat Show at Jacob Javits back in 2020? Left that day saying what a genuinely nice guy. Took me a few years and tons of research as to what make and model boat I wanted, settling on Crownline and I finally pulled the trigger, frequently entering the showroom numerous times picking his brain about all things bowrider and as I said, finally pulled the trigger. Coincidentally, unknown to me a friend told me he also uses Kehls for winter storage and couldn't be happier. Anyways, throughout the process I came to know his 2 brothers Mike and Joe as well as Joe's wife Anne whom handled the closing. From 2020 on, I have had only an excellent experience with the ENTIRE Kehl family. They sell family boats as well as fishing boats. You would be making a huge mistake if you didn't at least pay them at least one visit; I'm pretty certain you'll be happy you did!

We had a great time for about an hour or so but about half way back the engine started sputtering and then died. We tried a few things but admittingly while we can both turn a wrench, neither of us are all that handy when it come to boats. While he was trying to access the carb (it's a pretty old but cool boat), I was already on Yelp looking for help. The fellas at Kehl's were as cool as a cucumber and as nice as my uncles. We tried a few more things but to no avail. We simply cracked a couple colds ones and waited a short while for them to arrive and tow us back to their marina. While I didn't ask him how much they charged for their work, I do know they were able to get her fired up the next day and he was pretty pleased with it all. I don't own my own boat yet (aside from canoes/kayaks), but when I do, I'm surely glad I now know of a friendly, reliable and honest boat mechanic/ marina nearby!

While trying to (finally) go fishing we got out into the bay, came around a buoy, and started to lose power. The motor did not sound right, so I went 5 MPH almost the whole way back. I got to the mouth of my canal, and it just stopped. Couldn't get more than 2 MPH out of her. Managed to get back into open water and hailed BoatUS for a tow back to the dock. This was the second trip with the boat and motor. A more knowledgeable friend and I have been troubleshooting extensively, we did simple stuff, like check spark plugs, wiring, etc., to disassembling and cleaning the carburetor. We disassembled the fuel pump, and found that almost every single seal had a tear in it. We replaced the whole assembly, still, nothing. Upon further investigation, we discovered that THE ENTIRE POWERHEAD IS LOOSE. When I gave them my motor, the shifter was broken, but it purred. Now it shifts, but doesn't run at all. I have another mechanic coming to the dock to look at it this week, one that has been 110% more transparent and honest in communication. When I amended my previous review, the part that I left out, in good faith, was that they ASKED me to "do something about the Yelp! review." I did something, as, at the time, they did the right thing. Now I'm doing something again. My motor is old. Very old. It probably has very little time left to begin with, but other than the shifting issue, the thing was a little reliable vintage outboard. Now it's entirely possible that I'll have to part it out. This motor has a ton of sentimental value, and that just breaks my heart. I'd say I can't believe all that has transpired, but when the towboat driver, and a handful of other mechanics and marine businesses I've visited have not had a single thing positive to say about them, that should be telling enough. Even if I was contacted about this (based on the communication I've had, fat chance), I don't want these people anywhere near this, or any other outboard I might ever own.

They repaired our 13' Boston Whaler Sport helm/thwart seat that cracked thanks to a designed-in manufacturing flaw that placed a spliced in the balsa support right in the middle of the seat. We were lucky that it took 22 years before this flaw presented itself. This is probably due to our taking great care of our boat that we are the original owners. (After our seat cracked, we discovered that every other similar era Whaler that we could find, had their seat cracked exactly as ours failed, validating Bob's diagnosis of this design flaw.) Given our desire to maintain our boat's showroom condition we are so glad that we chose to have Gulf Fiberglass repair our boat. Thanks to their excellent work our seat looks as if it never was damaged. Additionally, our seat is now even better than new, thanks to Bob's suggestion to replace the inadequate balsa core with the strongest yet light weight core replacement available for this repair - Nidacore. As soon as Bob suggested the upgrade to a Nidacore replacement over the flimsy balsa core we knew that we found the right craftsman to do the repairs. Every other "repair" shop we called before speaking with Bob gave us sketchy explanations on how they planned to make the repair. Every one of these other shops left way too much doubt in my mind to entrust them with making the correct repair. So if you want high quality craftsman who take the time to do things the right way and also go above and beyond to improve your repair, If possible, then we highly recommend Gulf Fiberglass. We're glad that we did and know that you will be too! Wendy & John Penn
