I started at Surge late this winter after having a frustrating series of uninspiring spin classes at a local Big Box gym. At my first class, the instructor gave me a full fitting on my bike to make sure I was comfortable. The ride was great, music on point, and Rachel was great at guiding us through a series of hills and drills. Since that first class, I've been a religious 4x a week Surge-er. I've found each instructor to be awesome in their own unique way, and you can tell the studio has put great care into selecting them. This all goes without saying, I'm getting an incredible workout during each 45 minute session. If you're a music lover, be sure to check their weekly themed rides. They're a blast. Beautiful studio and always a kick a** workout! The instructors are super motivating and the time flies when you're having fun! Great music, lights, bikes and the cool, scented towels after your workout are awesome. This place was awesome. I went to Zion's Warrior Ride and had a great 45-minute workout. They've got water, snacks, sweat towels, lavender-infused cool-off towels, great music, great bikes, a clean facility, and helpful, kind people to aid in the process of getting acclimated...especially for this out-of-towner. This is my favorite place to work out in the Twin Cities!!! I used surge to jump start my weight loss and went every morning for 4 weeks. I loss 9lbs of fat, gained muscle now I go every Saturday to maintain and it is something that I look forward to. I've been going to Surge for a couple of years now about once a week. I'm a regular in Zion's Saturday morning Hip Hop class and it's always an amazing work out. She creates new playlists and varies the routine every week so you don't get bored. This is the best morning workout for me by far...the music makes you want to move and the darkness hides Friday night sins. Everyone pushes together but goes at their own pace. The only thing to keep in mind is when you buy a package, it has an expiration date. They have always been willing to extend it if I call before they expire, which is such a good policy because when you spend at various clubs, it can get expensive. I can't say enough good stuff about Surge...great energy, helpful, friendly staff, clean, well-maintained facility. read more

I loved coming here! I have only tried the spin classes at my gym in California and definitely preferred my experience here over my own gym! The staff was extremely friendly, the place was clean and ran very efficiently! The owner, Ken, was personable and had me feel like I was an old friend. The instructor, Sarah Getty, was easy to follow, had wonderful energy and kept me motivated. I have never pushed myself so hard in a group class and I have Sarah to thank for that. If you are a local, you are really lucky to have Sarah as an instructor! I will definitely be back for a class or two the next time I visit Minnesota! read more

Okay, so I was looking for some place to go get a good work out, without having to do it by myself. My family had been going to classes and encouraged me to try one. And now, I'm completely hooked! The staff are so incredibly nice and welcoming, and so encouraging throughout the whole workout! They are so incredible and have such wonderful customer service, I can't think of anywhere else that can compare! I'm so hooked-I just bought spin shoes! I am visiting MN on business and was told to go to Surge for a great workout. I find it challenging to get a good workout in while traveling and the hotel gyms are always so mediocre! Surge was awesome! I attended the 5:30 class and as this was my first ever spin class I was told to show up a bit early to get set up! From the moment I walked in the door I felt comfortable and confident that this was going to be awesome! And OMG it was! From warm up to cool down this class was epic! The facility is spotless and the staff are amazing! They even have snacks set out for before and after! I am so going to stay in St Louis Park ever time I travel to MN just so that I can get a class in at Surge! read more

A friend of mine told me about a spin instructor at an affiliated health club -- told me how different and intense and fun her classes were -- how I should try her class just once. I did and, well, I've been hooked ever since. Surge Cycling has a unique approach to spin -- one that makes an hour class seem like half that. But one that thoroughly exhausts you. I am a simple guy and my friends would hint that I'm somewhat frugal, so who would I pay good money and travel crosstown for a spin class I could get for free at my health club -- because the classes are that good. Nice place, sure. But now the awesome instructors are no longer there so I won't be going back. I also overheard who I presume was the owner (a guy) talk about their customers behind their back. Totally unprofessional and I was totally put off. Ive heard bad things about this business around town that they are total jerks but if you don't care about that kind of thing, it's a nice place. Upon arriving to the friendliest of faces, I was disappointed that this is not a TRUE cycling ride. Push ups on the handle bars at 110RPM in the warm-up might produce a sweat, but certainly isn't anything that would be considered safe on a bike. As a certified Spinning and Indoor Cycling instructor, it is filled with contraindications. Popcorn jumps --- pushups while standing. Surveying the room, people were not set up properly. Hitting 140RPMs to "clear the RPMs" --- everyone's bottoms were bouncing tremendously off the saddle. For the cycling enthusiast, I wouldn't recommend it. People are kind, the studio trendy and clean, but the ride wasn't anything I would return for. read more

Surge Cycling is AH-MAZING! This is such a great place for ANYONE. I had seen a few ads on Facebook about Surge Cycling and saw a girlfriend of mine check-in to it that same week (I swear my phone hears everything I say and knows everything I am thinking)! Well, I messaged her and asked if she wanted to go with me one day and what she thought (she loves it), that's all it took! I took my first class [Surge Circuit] at the Maple Grove location, right next to Erik's Bike Shop off of Hemlock Lane and my second class in St. Louis Park (right in West End across the street from Costco and for my foodies, in the same strip if Yangtze) for Hip-Hop Club Cycle. 2 classes is all it took! I was HOOKED! Surge Cycling is a judge free zone! Surge is for anyone and everyone! Don't take my word for it, I promise you everyone who has been there would say the same thing! The staff/instructors are so friendly, they are encouraging and know you by name. Not only are the staff/instructors great, the riders all of the riders are SO AWESOME! I found Surge via Class Pass and immediately fell in love. I've tried several spin classes in the Twin Cities and can truly say the classes I've taken at Surge have been my favorite. The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming, and the front staff/instructors make it a point to remember you by name. That makes all the difference! The classes themselves are so fun. I know when I hop on the bike that I'll be enjoying every minute of the 45 minute ride and truly get in a killer workout : ) ...the bikes are also top notch. In general, health club spin/cycle classes are a good workout; but they are usually just a series of bike exercises with random music in the background. If you want a different experience, go to Surge. You dance to the music! The routines are exquisite, and the instructors take great care to coordinate exercise to tempo. I have been spinning since 1998, first at Northwest, then Lifetime, then LA. Surge is the best, and the studio is beautiful. Zion and Ken are wonderful and welcoming. Nothing like it in the cities. The difference between Surge Cycle and other group fitness classes or even doing cardio solo is the recharging energy it gives you! The surge environment is fun, positive and accepting. The crew will not only help guide you on your fitness journey but also become friends you look forward to seeing when you enter the studio door. It is really it's own little community that I love I can claim I am a part of. I was a bit intimidated of taking classes as first. Sure, I can road bike just fine, but what about this spin stuff? I was immediately put to ease being told "this is your ride, your journey make it yours" and you just go at your own pace. You will be challenged, you will laugh and you will rock out at Surge! Best part is I think the studio may be a time machine that doesn't run on 1.21 gigawatts. The 40 minutes FLY BY. Try a Surge class. I don't typically associate cycling gyms with what I would call traditional customer service, but surge cycling is easily the friendliest, most customer-focused cycling gym I've ever been to. It also helps that the equipment is solid, the instructors are engaged, and the atmosphere is enthusiastic. read more

I went to one preliminary spin class here and I loved it! They have a great 1/2 off deal for new riders which is what brought me in. I have experience with spinning and I thought the instructor was a lot of fun. Thursday night hip hop class 9/17/15. Lots of energy, full body workout, and loud exciting music (just as I would expect in a spinning class. Overall, a great experience! Oh, and they have free snacks, ear plugs, and towels which are all very nice accouterments for a sweaty, hunger-inducing spin class. read more

Customer service is great, they greet you at the door and assist you with your bike before class if needed. The instructors are top notch, personable and motivating. The music and sound system is amazing, it's like a party on the bike. The workout is fun, intense and a killer calorie burner. My favorite part of the class is the chilled eucalyptus scented towels to cool off with at the end of a sweaty ride! Surge cycling is the best indoor cycling studio in the twin cities! read more
