It often gets overlooked between the hustle and bustle of the congested, busy Oxon Hill Road traffic and slue of neighboring businesses. As an avid bookworm and lover of books, I've seen this library many times while on my commute riding home but today I was off and decided to stop by and venture in. Although not much to look at on the outside, I must say I was impressed with the interior of the library and its collection. Although the collection of books are small compared to other libraries around, they were still relevant and current. What makes this library special is that they have a huge collection of African-American history and literature..... actually, as I learned from the head librarian, it is one of the largest collections of African-American history books and literature in the Washington DC area. I spent some significant time and this section of the library and really enjoyed it. Lots of knowledge and artifacts for the avid readers and knowledge seekers. I also couldn't help but notice a community puzzle that was laid out on a table that was really cool! I even added a couple of the missing pieces myself and found it to be very cathartic--relaxing. In all, neighborhood libraries can be a bit of lost nostalgia, but I find these resources to be very important in today's digital world. It's great to step into a space and actually feel, read, engulf yourself into reading materials as oppose to glaring screens and tablets. I highly recommend stopping by this library and giving it your patronage. It is open to all, whether you are a DC or Maryland resident. The staff is truly knowledgeable and seemed very happy to help with my questions/requests. The facilities is fully Wi-Fi enabled and can service a great stop for quick teleworking. It's the historical reference for me about this library and the vast collection of African-American literature that makes this place a stand out. They will even go back to the old collections and pull something out for you. They even have a wide variety of events, programs, including educational programs and lectures. And if they don't have what you are looking for, they can order it from another library and have it brought in for you. Not to mention, your library card gives you full access to digital materials and a library service called Libby, which contains just about anything you would find both old and current in any bookstore for free. We have been to a few libraries for story time and Oxon Hill is hands down the best. They do a great job picking books that engage the kiddos. Plus the music/movement breaks are always on point. The staff is always friendly, engaging, and welcoming. I adore this library and highly recommend their story time for the little humans. This was my first visit to the this library since I moved to the area last February. As I decided…read moreone of my resolutions was that I wanted to get back into reading so this was the first step! So I went inside on February 1st to use the computer as I needed to prints some copies. The library is less than 5-minutes from my house so very convenient location. When I walked in I was greeted by the nice lady at the desk. She signed me up for my library card and gave me a quick overview of the library. What I really liked was that you get free copies up to 10 pages each day. Which at my last library you paid for every sheet! So after I printed out what I needed I walked around the library to see what they had to offer. Now the library is on the smaller size so they didn't have loads of books, but I loved the selection they had and checked out my first of many books. I also really liked that they give you like 3-weeks before the book is due which is awesome because it's been a while since I read a book unfortunately. So to give me that long I'll be able to definitely finish the first one of many books without any problems. The library has a nice open set up with the computers located in the middle, private rooms, teen area, and also for the younger kids a nice selection. I also like they have some comfy chair areas that you can sit and enjoy your book as well. I can't wait to come back!

A gem of a historical venue that you must check out. The library is impressive, the halls are…read moremassive and marble. But the most important thing to do is bring your ID and get your very own library card for the Library of Congress. It only takes a few minutes and an online form. There is little waiting and you get the card right then and there. We live on Capitol Hill and always bring our friends and family to this venue and they leave with a fun souvenir. The entire experience is free. One of the more impressive displays is the Gutenberg Bible just outside of the rotunda. It is complete and printed on vellum. There are only 3 of these on the planet in existence. There are only 49 total Gutenberg Bibles in existence, 12 of them were printed on vellum (which is animal skin and the most costly and most durable material from the era). And, as I mentioned, there are only 3 Gutenberg Bibles that are fully in tact and printed on vellum. Go see it. It's a crucial part of history. The other two are in The British Library (London, UK) and The Bibliothèque Nationale de France (Paris, France).

Don't let the long line discourage you; it's absolutely worth the wait. Expect to spend around 20…read moreminutes in line, and keep in mind that part of the wait is usually outside, so it can get pretty hot on warm days. Once inside, the building is stunning. The famous ceiling is every bit as impressive as the photos, and it's worth taking your time to admire the architecture. Be sure to check out the rotating exhibits as well. I thought the two Georges were well done. Also enjoyed seeing actual books from Jefferson's library. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer questions. If you're visiting Washington, DC, this is definitely a place I'd recommend, especially if you're already exploring Capitol Hill. It's an easy walk to Navy Yard if you're planning to spend time there afterward.

When we finished our cruise down the Potomac, we decided to spent the time we had left in the day walking around here. We got on the free trolley to help us see as much as possible and that was a good choice. It covers a lot of the town and makes it easier to see more if you're pressed for time. There are so many shops and restaurants and historic buildings to see. Every style of cuisine is covered. You could spend days here and never get bored. I wished for more time but ultimately had to find a nice restaurant for dinner and call it a day way too quickly!

I have been going to this library since I was Ram. Probably before that, honestly. I have never had…read morean issue with the staff, or the children that frequent the are. However, I feel that in comparison to some of the other libraries that they have a lesser selection of books, which is a bummer. But, you can just request books from other locales to be sent to you. This branch doesn't appear to become too crowded, so it seems to be a great space to utilize the free internet for research or whatever your needs are. Also, if I'm not mistaken, there are large room that are used for educational purposes, classes and the like.

I visit this library at least once a week, if not twice, and everyone on staff there is friendly and welcoming (props to Mr. S especially!) This place is tricked out. Wifi available, plenty of computers, reasonable hours (no Sundays since the '09 budget cuts, sadly), and good selection of magazines; what more could you want? The facility and its bathrooms are clean and well maintained. It has self-checkout, and a 'help yourself' shelf for your hold items. The only thing I might ask for is a bigger selection of titles at this branch. Often, newer books are only in the bigger branches. But hey, I guess that is what the iPhone catalog app for placing holds is for!
