Not even going to lie. While this may have been a 5K breeze for many, I found myself huffing and puffing throughout. It doesn't help that I didn't train what so ever for this lovely 14 obstacle course mud run. Registration was done online and we quickly hopped on it because as time progressed, the prices increased dramatically. We were able to find a discount code online so it came out to around $30 something. The highest it can go up to is $68 which is the last month before the run. So you may want to quickly decide or you'll be paying a lot more than you originally want to. Although you sign up for a specific wave time, they aren't super strict about the time you actually start the race. Granted that it's not a few hours after your initial time but I don't believe they will turn you down. So if your buddies get a time that isn't exactly as yours, you can all start in the same wave together. Waves of runners start off every 15 minutes and it can be up to 300 runners at a time. Your bib has this small gps thing attached to it in case you want to have they keep track of your time. Another way is to remember your personal # because they will ask for it at the end. Parking was $10. I highly suggest you arrive early, at least one hour before your scheduled start time. The process to grab your bib and free stuff wasn't well organized. The lines were long and VERY slow. To do your part, you should print out the waiver from their website, fill it out entirely and sign it before you show up to the booth. It'll save some time at least. The beginning of the race was mostly filled with running in the dry heat. You'll run into some obstacles like hay stacks or hopping over k-rails. After you have been running for some time, your skin will be burning if you haven't applied any sun block. At that point you'll be asking yourself, where is the stupid mud or water from the lake? Your wish will be granted when you arrive at some mud pools that you have to jump into. They expect you to plow through it neck deep even though if you stand it'll only be about waist high. The first pool was as raunchy as a nasty gas station's restroom. That one stunk like crap the most. The others weren't as bad but I guess you start to get use to the smell. Don't give up yet, there's more mud and more obstacles to face. From their website they showed a picture of the tunnel crawl obstacle big enough so you can kind of crouch through it. Don't get fooled, those tunnels were super tight. Claustrophobia instantly settled in even though I don't really suffer from it. That was where I received most of my cuts and bruises. I would recommend you doing it on your back and push your way through using your feet. Much easier that way. Too bad I didn't know that until afterwards. Their best obstacle was probably the slip n' slide into the lake. I actually wanted to run back and do it again. Also, be careful when you run across the rocks, you can easily slip and crack your head open especially when your shoes are wet or filled with mud. Although you may want to treat this like a time race, remember to have fun and don't kill yourself. I did like how they had volunteers throughout the race feeding you smart water as you passed by. For my first mud run, it was pretty cool. I don't know if I would want to be a regular at this. I did find it to be challenging, exhausting at times, but since my buddies were there to mess around with me, we just had fun with it. Definitely not the greatest time, but at least we got done with it while still having a blast. The final three obstacles and finish line was located in the baseball field so everyone is watching and cheering you on from the bleachers. They were giving out bananas and Fuse bottled drinks at the end of the run. Plus for you 21+, you get one free beer voucher if you registered and paid to run the event so don't lose that voucher! The fire department was out hosing us down under while we were washing up under the showers. I would recommend bringing a change of dry/clean clothes and shoes/slippers to change into after the race. Also, if you have a water proof camera then I would also recommend it. Remember, have fun and be safe! Try not to get the mud in your mouth because it looks like that gunk that appears when your toilets back up. read more

This was pretty cool. Especially at the end - the "surprise" mud pit that you have to slosh to get out of. You come out looking like the mud monster in icky yellowish brownish mud. I won't say it, but the mud smelled terrible and stuff. Plenty of obstacles. Only thing I would really complain are the rock area where I almost slipped and died. Those rocks weren't stable and secured. Someone could have really injured themselves. The packet pick up wasn't bad. Flowed well, as long as you had your waiver signed Parking was $10 - carpool!!! :) Highly recommended. Just don't go to that McD's nearby. Terrible service! We waited forever for a coke and coffee. My first run ever. Pretty fun and I'm glad I survived. I should have "trained" harder for this but I'm a lazy person. I half assed it by just running 2 miles on the treadmill like once or twice a week and did weights and pilates. I'm so out of shape, ahahahhaa. So I registered early and it was only $30 like Smitcha B. mentioned. The price increased up to $68. Good thing I got in early! We arrived 30 minutes to our start time and nearly missed it. The registration lines took forever and a day because people didn't bring their waivers. There needs to be more organization for this. Maybe set up a tent for those unprepared!? First half of this was brutal. Blistering dry heat and no water. Well, I don't know if anybody actually carried any with them but I didn't since I knew we would have to basically swim/wade through mud. Everyone was running/jogging at this point but I felt like if I pushed myself so early on in the heat, I might pass out. I didn't see any medics around either. Decided to just jog/walk until I hit that mud. The mud was so disgusting. I had mud in places even my Brazilian wax lady has never been in. It's real nature mud. Like, they just dug up a ditch, lined it with tarps, shoved the dirty back in and added water. My legs are all welted up, bruised, cut up from twigs, rocks, pebbles etc. Whatever, it's nature and I had fun. At the end you get a medal, t-shirt, Fuse drinks, bananas, and a beer ticket. I don't think they checked if you were 21+ or not because I think everyone just automatically had a beer ticket printed and attached to their bibs. Little showers set up to rinse mud off and firemen hosing you down. key points: mouth closed eyes closed wear earplugs (mud in your ears is NOT fun) SUNBLOCK. bring a change of clothes & sandals HAVE FUN WITH IT. Aside from needing to organize the registration lines better, I honestly think they should make each wave smaller. It was so easy to get kicked in the face, get mud in your eyes and mouth (as I did multiple times) etc since it was so crowded. I had to stay back during the 1st hurdle (leaping over cement freeway dividers) because my hands would've gotten mashed on if it weren't for my quick reflexes. And although it's only 5k, I also think there should be more constant patrolling from a medic. I just thought to myself, if someone DID pass out somewhere or got hurt, it would take awhile for someone to notice or for another runner to get someone to grab help. Yes we signed waivers etc etc but just in case.... I'm just saying. Would I ever do this again? Maybe not. I think I can cross it off my list. P.S. A lot of people threw away their shoes. Don't you know that just tossing them in the washer and letting them dry would have them back to ya good as new? Mine are perfectly fine. read more

This sucked. 2013's run was way better. The only great thing about this run was having a huge group of my awesome friends doing it together. Pros: -It was cheap. I bought my ticket way in advance, so it was only $28. -Pretty muddy! Not as muddy as last year though, there weren't any full head submerged under mud obstacles. Cons: -NO SHOWERS!!! -No spray stations to clean your eyes throughout the run. -Only one drinking water station -No photographer before, during, or after the race -No official timer -Not enough obstacles, mostly just pits of mud. I was expecting more climbing, crawling, jumping, etc. -No free t-shirt like last year. Instead they gave out dinky little metals. -The "party" at the end is more like 3 food booths and a gated beer area -Bag check was unorganized, the line was 45 mins long -Changing room was right by the finish line, but bag check was all the way at the party area, so you had to walk up the hill, wait 45 mins in line to pick up your bags, walk down the hill as the mud dried on you, wash off whatever you could in muddy water, then change at the bottom of the hill, and walk back up the hill to your car. Overall, horrible planning by whoever coordinated it. My friends and I still had fun because we made the best of it, but definitely won't be doing this run again next year. read more

Generally 5K run is not that bad but turn it into a mud run with obstacle courses, takes double the time to finish haha. SoCal's Survivor Mud starts off at the baseball stadium and to the lake. Once you leave the parking lot and get to the actual course, it gets really dusty since you're running on a trail. Obstacle courses are lined throughout the run but I do wish there was more or at least more evenly spaced out. The obstacle courses themselves are pretty fun, with the first one getting you muddy right away. There is a hint of manure so who knows what is in that mud :P People do expect to get dirty so that in itself wasn't that big of a deal. The lake part of the course though, had to make sure not to take in any of the water. Thousands of sweaty muddy people running/walking in the lake means nasty water condition. The best part comes after the run because you get a free beer! Alaskan Brewery were there to provide that day. I was half expecting something like Bud Light or Coors, so it was a nice surprise to have a microbrew on site! I paid around $50 so it wasn't that bad. It was very hot in 2012, but this 5K was a good way to start if I want to do more of these extreme runs in the future. Learned a lot of tips and tricks! read more

"Survivor" mud run? What a joke. The website for this location, this race the past weekend was completely full of lies. To say it was misleading is an understatement. 20 "obstacles" consisted of some leftover children's monkey bars, 17 mud pits, a pile of existing rocks with some cones around it and some 12 ft water pipes to crawl through. There was one water station with water that wasn't even tepid, it was hot. Other than that there were no volunteers on the course. What a waste of money. The website says there would be vendors, a beer garden, refreshments and food. There was 1 food truck, their beer garden was about a 30 ft squared paved area with a portable gate around it where you could choose between all of 2 beers and you could only drink your beer in that hot unshaded area, and I didn't see any refreshments other than some bottled water at the finish line. For $10 more do the Spartan Sprint. It's much more organized, there is more of a camaraderie among all the racers, actual cool obstacles and volunteers everywhere to direct you and cheer you on. There are many vendors, food venues, beer stations and you aren't restricted on where you take your beer. Plus Spartan takes professional pictures throughout the race for free. Survivor took no pictures....not that there were pictures worth taking. read more

Did this race with my fiancé and a couple of his co workers back in 2014 and it was a disappointment. The line to get your bib wasn't so bad but the line to check in your bag and to retrieve it after the race was horrible!! Very long lines! It reeked of manure through out the course. It was so hot but they only had one water station and the water had dirt inside of it and the cups were messy. There was no wash down station so we washed our mud off in the lake. The area to drink your beer, everyone was crowded in there like sardines. The medal is a joke!!! It's so freakin tiny! It's the smallest medal I have on my medal rack. I did only pay I believe $25 at the time on groupon, so it was cheap but in this case you really do pay for what you get. Never again! Id rather spend a little more money for a more organized race and for a nicer medal. I run for the bling! read more

Basing the event from cost to experience it is not worth attending especially compared to other mud run events I have done. The obstacles were not the same as shown on the website, it was entirely mud pits. The medal was tiny, it was a dog tag. From previous events it looks like the medal has gotten smaller and smaller every year. If you get mud in your eye in the beginning of the race you are SOL until the one water station or when you reach the lake towards the end. False advertising of obstacles, sad medal, lack of vendors, Beer area with no shade just feels like you have been taken advantage of when you see how other mud runs have been developed. read more

I think the event itself was fun, always a good time getting muddy. The biggest pros: -obstacles were safe and secure -one free beer at the end -cleaning stations were stocked with soap -the bag check area was really well organized -parking was a easy and you weren't left with 20 random fliers on your car The huge cons: -only ONE water station -it smelled like manure....so I did everything I could to keep the mud away from my face -there we not enough food vendors, really not one food truck? I can't imagine how anyone has had a bad experience with this mud run! I've done about 10 races, mud runs, color runs, electric runs, and a half marathon. This specific mud run is by far my favorite. There are plenty of obstacles. They aren't hard by any means but they're fun and full of mud. If you're looking for a challenge do a spartan race, if you're looking to just show up on a Saturday and have fun without training, do survivor. If you go on the first runs in the morning there's still ice in the mud which is so refreshing. In 2015 they took away the showers which was BS so we just washed ourselves in the lake. Always bring a ton of towels to line your car with and a change of clothes. And a bag to put your clothes and shoes in. Free beer at the end which is awesome. I always go on the first run of the day to beat the crowds and the heat. I've gone every year since I started and I always recommend it to others. read more

I would give this mud run negative stars if I could. I did the run today, 19 August 15 in Lake Elisnore, CA. It was absolutely horrible and I have nothing positive to say about it. There was hardly any mud and, what little there was, had a horrible odor and had tons of rocks and prickly branches in it. So let me list my issues as this will save me plenty of typing time :) 1) You show up to get your running #. They ask if you're 21 or older and they check your id to verify (if not, they tear off the tag that reads "beer"). We asked the girl if we needed our id for later to actually get the beer (the line to check our bags in were ridiculous so we wanted to leave everything in the car if we could), she said no just hold on to the ticket. After the run we go to get our beer, I'll get in to the issues with the water later, we show the guy our ticket. He sends us away saying, "you need your id." Needless to say, despite me understanding, I was livid. Then when we're walking away, after just being over the crappy run, he makes a smart ass comment to us; we just kept walking. 2) The first course is a crawl where you're on all fours. This would be fun but there's no mud, or even water, and you're getting sharp rocks in your palms. After that one, my palms were bleeding. 3) They say there's "18 obstacles." That would be great if they weren't all the exact same thing. To be the devils advocate, they weren't all the same, but the ones which involved mud (about half of them) all encompasses the same element of a climb in to a ditch with variations of rope. Plus, the slide at the end was a complete joke (the only obstacle that really varied). 4) Theres only one hydration station at the half way point. The water was very hot and there were dirty cups all over the table. I even saw staff pick up and refill one of them...um gross. The next station is at the very end, after you've crossed the finish line. 5) There are not showers or anywhere to rinse off. Granted, I know we're in a drought, but come on; at least have some hoses. There's nowhere to rinse your body off, or even your hands. 6) There are no sinks to wash your hands after using the porta-potties located at the start of the race, you have antibacterial. 7) They say, especially on the several emails you get before the race, there will be photographers to take your pictures so feel free to ask them to take yours. From the start to end if the race, we saw one photographer (which I don't even know if they worked for the run) after the first obstacle. Overall, this was a joke. I did the Muderalla last year and had sooooo much fun! Everything this one lacked they had and more. I came in to here knowing it may not be as fun, and I was right, it didn't even meet basic expectations. I dot care how inexpensive this run is, I will never do it again via Survivor. Take heed, save your money, dig a ditch, and fill it with water, you'll have a lot more fun and it won't be as unsanitary. Oh, and I failed to say, in the lake which the slide drops you off at at the end of the race, there's rusted metal everywhere on the shore; be careful. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MUD RUN AT ALL COST!!!! read more

I hate to slam a fun event, or ANY, for that matter but no. The website showed net-crossings, log rolls, climbing nets...it was more like a trail ride with a ton of mud pits. They were good mud pits, but the only "true" obstacle were the rocks? And people can do that anywhere. My daughter and I were disappointed. My 2nd daughter, it was her first but she didn't have anything to compare to. NO CHAIRS, NO VENDORS, ONE WATER STATION, NO T-SHIRTS INCLUDED IN COST, and water bottles??? Weak, plastic bota bags that held, what, 6-8 oz? No. I did like the music and changing area but I don't go to these events with 3 of us running for that in mind. I've done a dozen or so mud runs. I've done this one twice before. And a hand full of Spartan runs. This survivor mud run August 17 2016 in SoCal was ridiculous. Mud pit after mud pit were the extent of the obstacles. The only way I knew there were no more mud pits was that we saw the rented backhoe parked. All they did was dig holes and fill them with water. This is not what I paid for, drove 3 hours for and took a whole day off work for. I don't know if the original owner sold or what but I will never do this mud pit slog again. They didn't keep time. There was no clock anywhere. Very disorganized seriously a waste of my life. Just thinking about it makes me bitter. read more

This year was a big dissapointment. This was the 6th year doing the mud run. All they had this year we a bunch of mud pits full of rocks. No obstacles or fun things. At the end you had to climb down a rock embankment to a portable shower where it took 2 hours to stand in line to rinse off. This will be our last year. Too bad. Ok so I did the survivor run in september. It was held in diamond stadium in lake Elsinore which was not a bad venue. They charge for parking which was 10$ which is the going rate on most mud run events. Walk inside and they have a gear bag check in for free which was a plus seeing as though others charge a fee. After you get your registering out of the way, you can go to start your race. They do not check your wave times so if you get there early might as well jump in. Now let's get started on the actual run. I signed up for the 15k option. It was an extended route that would come together with the popular 5k later on in the race. We start running and see a few obstacles which were very beginner style. They had monkey bars that went across maybe 8 feet? Lol. I think elementary schools have longer monkey bars. They also had the very common wall climb, rope netting crawl and mud pits. If I could describe survivor briefly in a few words it would be... Mud after mud after mud. Out of about 15 obstacles 10 of those were the SAME mud pits. Over and over again. It was cool the first 5 but really guys? Get some creativity. Another thing that bothered me was there were NO photographers on the field taking pictures. Don't be dooped into buying their photo package it's HORRIBLE. Don't believe me? Visit their fb page and read everyone else's horror stories about it. We paid about 29 dollars for a living social deal so I can't complain to much, but needless to say I will not be doing this run again. It was ok for one time and one time only. I've done other runs such as tough mudder, alpha warrrior, energy battle run, and mud factor. This run comes in last place. Try it once but if you don't, don't stress there's better runs out there. read more

Good recreation that should of been free in my opinion. A group of 6 of us ran yesterday September 20, 2015. The obstacles were not as described on the site. The obstacles were laughable. 85% of them were mud pits with small hills. - We registered for the 10:45 run and ran at 10am. Director didn't care as long as we paid our entry. This caused massive herd stoppage during the obstacles. -No timing, unless you are competing in the first round. -One water station. -No camera crew to take pictures. -No clean water for baths after, they sent us to the dirty lake. -Vendors ran out of food and drinks. -One tent for women to change, we were corralled about 20 females into small tent. -Atmosphere was lame. I will never run Survivor again. Try Gladiator Rock & Roll which is more organized and WAY more competitive. They should change the name to "Surviving the herd". read more

As people stated, it was mud after mud, which didnt bother me to much i mean it is a mud run. What bothered me was at the end of the race. There is usually a fresh water lake that they made you go through at the end of the obstacle to rinse off most of the mud, BUT THE LAKE WAS DRIED!!!!. So to rinse off about a few lbs of mud there was this long waiting line, in the beating sun, to rinse off under these LOW pressure sprinklers!!!! This is not caring for the customers. Unless they implement a sufficient rinsing station, this is my last mud run. read more

I did the mud run in Lake Elsinore today, and it was nothing at all like the videos on the website. Completely false advertising. Only one water station at the halfway point, and one photographer in the middle of the course. The only "obstacles" they had were mud pits, which got really old really fast. Cheesy finishing dog tags, no t shirt, just a few holes dug with a tractor, no live music, no tire obstacles, no water slide into the lake, did not even go inside the diamond, no ropes climb, no monkey bars. Did the Mud Run yesterday. It was my first Mud Run and while I had fun with the group I was with the Mud Run itself was lackluster. There were no real obstacles, only Mud pits. There was only 1 food truck. All in all very disappointing. read more

We did the 2013 and 2014 run. Everyone agreed the 2013 run was better. The course was more challenging there were 3 watering stations and a shower tent. you got a cool t-shirt and a big medal. this year we all greed they got cheap with everything.the only had only 2 water stations no showers instead of a t-shirt you got a cheap headband (you can buy the t-shirt for $15 wtf!!!) and the medal was obout 1/3 the size of the 2013 medal. overall the experience was ok but a little over priced read more

Coming from the R.O.C. Race (highly recommend) , my expectations were really high for this race. I enjoyed myself completely because of the group I went with. It was, as others have said, essentially 15 mud pits. There was one monkey bar set (not over mud), 3 large tires lying flat to climb over, and one tube to crawl through. As I said my group was what made the experience. Had I paid full price or been a serious obstacle race runner I would have been completely disappointed. I recommend anyone interested to buy on Groupon (paid half price thankfully), be newer to obstacle races or not looking for intense racing, and to bring a fun group! On the plus side parking was free and there were showers. On the down side the lines were too long to want to redeem your free beer and the showering situation was horrendous. Be prepared to say goodbye to what you wear because you won't be able to clean it properly. All in all I recommend to anyone not looking for anything too intense and looking to get DIRTY. Most things are what you make them so you can absolutely still have a blast with the right group and mindset! read more

I attended the Lake Elsinore location in September 2017. It was absolutely terrible. If you go to their website, they advertise a variety of obstacles. Absolutely nothing on the video was at the race! It was mud pit after mud pit. No tires. No monkey bars. No ropes. No rope walls. No wooden walls. Nothing. Just more and more of the same. There was no staff along the route so that if at any point anyone had become sick or injured, I can only imagine how long it would take for any kind of medical staff to be notified. Especially since none of the runners bring a cell phone to a mud run. Also, there was only one water stop along the way at the mid point and there's really no way to bring your own water through a mud run. At the end, there was one food truck that even ran out of fries by the time we were there. And there was zero place to sit and eat or be in the shade. Absolutely terrible.
