My granddaughter started prekindergarten at OLS. We thought we found the perfect school. Even when…read moreparents commented, "this school is not the same", we ignored them. The prekindergarten - third grade teachers were remarkable, exhibiting Christ-like qualities. The education she received through the third grade was stellar, through and after COVID. These teachers really cared about the social-emotional and educational needs of the students that were entrusted to their care. Even when my son said it was time to change schools I stubbornly held on. But fourth grade confirmed that it was indeed time to move on. During the first week of after-school band practice my granddaughter's instrument was taken and damaged by a student in the upper grades. I spoke to the principal Mr. Venticinque, and after watching a video of the lunchroom my granddaughter's statement was confirmed. I wish this was the only incident that took place during the fourth grade. Unfortunately, it was not. She was sitting next to a new student who stole her school supplies. The teacher said she was unaware of the incident, but the new student confirmed that she stole the supplies because she didn't have any. I still do not understand how a teacher cannot monitor a class when there are only fourteen students in the class. My granddaughter actually prayed to get the fourth grade teacher she wanted. And, unfortunately she received the teacher she prayed for. This turned out to be the reason we would leave OLS. This teacher yelled and humiliated students all year. Every day my granddaughter would come home with a different story. Even though the teacher's anger wasn't directed at my granddaughter, children shouldn't be subject to this behavior from adults. She would yell at students if they didn't wear the correct color for Dollar Dress Down Day. I couldn't understand why her anger was directed at the children when parents make the decision as to what their child will wear to school. My granddaughter came out of school very upset after sitting for a test that she studied hard for. This fourth grade teacher took points off her test because she said my granddaughter was talking. I approached the teacher and told her that my grandchild was telling a student to stop cheating off her paper. The teacher asked why my granddaughter didn't tell her. I told her that she was scared of her. She looked shocked and said she would speak to her. That conversation never took place. After this I didn't approach the teacher with my concerns for fear of retaliation against my granddaughter. When the school year was coming to an end we decided this was not the school environment my grandchild should be in. I approached the principal with our concerns regarding this teacher. He responded by saying no other parents had mentioned this to him. He also stated that this fourth grade teacher never yelled. I knew that both of these statements were not true. I told him that her parents would make the decision as to whether she would stay at OLS. My son emailed the principal, Mr. Venticinque and requested a day and time to meet with him. He didn't respond to the email until mid summer. I was a faithful volunteer at OLS for four years. I actually thought this would make a difference in how my grandchild was treated. Unfortunately, it did not. The behavior of the fourth grade teacher, delayed responses from the principal and high teacher turnover are just a few of the reasons why I would not recommend this school.

Kids learn through play, not by being confined to a table all day. The kids have access to art supplies, books, toys that are great for pretend play and the like. Also every one of his teachers have been there for years and actually love their job. That speaks volumes. We tried another play school/daycare prior to GPS and it was an eye opening experience. GPS is a true quality program and I'm so thankful we landed here.

It is everything that you would want a Pre-School to be. The staff are certified and undergo the strictest of background checks, there is no pressure for kids to be potty trained by a certain age, and you know that the school is safe and well maintained. The school is pure magic, the teachers base their lessons in play which is backed by research as the most important way for children to learn in the early years. I cannot recommend this school enough. Especially since they are supportive and accommodating of students who also need special services. I speak from first-hand experience that they will work with speech, OT, PT, and special educators to make sure your child gets exactly what they need. There is a reason this school has been around for over 60 years.

Schechter Day School is an amazing school. I can say this first hand because I go there, and so do…read moremy brothers. Schechter is like a family. It is a k-12 school, and there is no other school that can match to the extent that they go to make sure everyone is happy. Going to the academic side of things, it is still an amazing school. Even though we have both Judaic studies and the "normal" school studies, students at our school get into great colleges. For instance, 2 out of 39 students got into Cornell this year. Schechter is like no other school that I know. They teach us about Israel, and the language of Hebrew. It is a great school, but you can't get the full experience through a yelp review, you can come and try it out! One student will be chosen to ambassador your child, and they get to meet what will be their future classmates if they decide to come to the school. Schechter really is a great school, and I know that you will also love it.

He has loved all of his teachers, the front end staff always keep me in the loop, and the director and ares director will always make time for me if I need. The daily updates on what my son is doing, how he's doing, pictures and whst he's eating is s huge comfort. Even better when they share with me even more details of his progress when I get there. They always have fun events for him to go to and he is slwdys talking about his friends and teachers and staff. As a Mom, I cannot imagine a better place.
