Buffet des Continents - Plates 4-a and 4-b of 4:  Jello, chocolate cake, strawberry/vanilla cake, and pudding Chomeur ... all good. I don't do this very often!

Okay, this is the first Buffet des Continents in Quebec at which I've eaten, having eaten here a…read morefew times. I also tried the Brossard location once. My last experience was at this location in St.-Jerome and I'm writing an update for it. Let me say that this is a very nice store. This northern suburb skews newer and this restaurant aligns with that observation. It's also nice that it has a mezzanine and even an outdoor upstairs seating patio. This location has the leaning tower of Pisa in the midst of it while Brossard has the Eiffel Tower, making this chain kitsch in this regard, albeit with "clear" branding. I went with the typical 4 plate system: salads and vegetables, entrees 1, entrees 2, and desserts. I also had coffee. The variety of food is quite vast. Popular foods tend to be North American/Canadian, Italian, Greek, and some Asian and Mexican choices. There is also a rotisserie and carving station. The first plate with the salads and vegetables was uniformly good. For the most part, the second plate, with meat and fish, was also good. I had some issues with the third plate, upon which I had put on some slices of pizza and a small Greek casserole. Some of the items tasted a little flat, with the Greek casserole in a round tin being especially so. Then, the fourth plate was good, and it had different flavors of jello, cake, as well as pudding Chomeur. I laughed at all the jello that was on display, thinking that the residents of a senior housing locale would be very excited by all that jello! As for the pudding Chomeur, it wasn't as moist as what I had at the Brossard location. I want to add that I went into this Buffet des Continents within an hour of closing. I was immediately told that, because it was a week night and the patronage was a little low, it was not likely that additional food would be added. This could account for some of the mains being a little bland after sitting out for a while. The apparent manager was very friendly and helpful. The younger employees servicing the table were nice enough. However, in going up to the buffet area to get the next plate, I found my table cleared off not once, but twice! They rectified it and the manager explained that some staff members were newer. I found these errors both irritating and funny because, with a packed house on a wintry day in Brossard, the serving staff there seemed to have connected with the patrons, as in engaging with them and remembering them, such that my table was never erroneously cleared. For four plates of food, the week night dinner price was definitely fair. I also like that this store/chain has adopted a system whereby you can have an automatic 12% put onto the tab that will act as a tip. I like that they chose a percentage between 10 and 15, which is about where I tip when at an AYCE/buffet sort of set-up. Take note that there has been a name change. Buffet des Continents is now Saveurs des Continents, which means "flavors of the continents" in French. This store could easily get back up to 4 star status. They have a very nice restaurant that is spacious, quirky, and interesting, and the distribution of what they feature has something for almost everyone. They just need to fix a few of the blander items, such as some that I mentioned, and it will be all good ... at least in my book.

Service was great! Can't complain. The BYOW is still in effect so they come and open the bottle of wine you bring for you and bring out glasses. I just really am mixed .. the soups were cold as hell .. my miso soup was still cold. My food was bland and just mediocre .. sushi rice was a lil stale I was trying to revitalize it by dunking the crap out of it in Spicy mayo and soya sauce Lolol The kimchi was awful. But then they had delicious tender grilled chicken and delicious crispy shrimps so the food was mixed .. it felt weird because not everything was consistent. It was alright decent ish but what you expect for an AYCE .. I guess I was hoping it would live up or exceed to their old name. Changing owners definitely didn't serve this place justice. Not sure I'll be back maybe who knows lol Cheers

Went for dinner and it has pretty much the same as "usual", I know that they do breakfast to but never went. I was kinda impressed, so all you can eat restaurants they make in big quantities and they taste so so, but here? The "Wong Tong" soup is so much better, they have like 5-6 types of sushi's ( not a lot ) but they are soooo good. They have a few / lot of things that are fried, tip: don't eat to much because it makes you "sick" after a while ( personnel experience ) I tried to eat not a lot but a little bit of everything. What they offer: -fried food -more "Asian" type of food, noodles and soups -soups -quite a few dessert types -salads / fruit bar -rice and medium "breakfast potatoes" And a whole lot more. Didn't take the best pictures, but at least you will have an idea how it looks like. I gave it 3 stars because it's a good restaurant, it just not a restaurant that I was "visually" impressed by. The food was amazing so 3/5 stars. My experience was great, just didn't based my review on my servers "humour" because she looked "annoyed / tired of working their" kinda face: but she did her job well. Gave us lots of water, took our dishes when we were done, yeah nice. Really recommend this place! I will certainly go more often and try the breakfast menu to next tim!

I said I wasn't going to do it on this last visit, but I broke down. I'm talking about going to…read morethe buffet at Saveurs des Continents, the apparent new name for Buffet des Continents. The newer name means "flavors of the continents" when translated into English and that probably has a better ring to it than the previous name. The dishes here go all the way from 2 to 5 stars, so that averages out to 3.5 stars, which isn't so bad considering how much choice they offer. Mostly I take from the Canadian-North American, Italian, Greek, and Middle Eastern food. They also have a staffed grill where they can cut you a nice little slab of meat. They have a section with Asian food and I also noticed a sushi area, the latter of which is beyond my line of demarcation. This is why, as I've said on the previous review, you will be breaking bread with people from 5 continents. (Should there be a token Australian in attendance, that would take it up to 6 continents.) The service at Saveurs des Continents is fine. Be sure to engage the server in such a way that they don't forget you and won't clean off your table while you are going up to the buffet line to get another plate of food. (I've had that happen up at St. Jerome once, and the place was far from full.) In this case, the server and I spoke Spanish and he didn't mind at all because, after all, this is Montreal and it subscribes to the concept of a "cultural mosaic." Bring it on. There is also a person who will come around to take a drink order, but I go with the included coffee or tea. With all that said, the pricing scheme is fair. It is slightly different depending on the time of the day and day of the week. The pricing includes a gratuity to the tune of about 12.5%, if I recall correctly, that they distribute to the employees. You are free to give your server a little bit more if you choose to. So, in revisiting Saveurs des Continents, I'm going to go with 4 stars. They offer a lot of food choices across a broad spectrum, fair pricing, decent service, and a unique brand of quirkiness and diversity that you don't easily forget. Also, with REM joining the Metro system and Exo commuter trains, this newer light rail system can take you from the city to the south shore. Your stop will be the Panama station and, from there, there is a pedestrian underpass and path that goes to the shopping center with this buffet. One thing is that it will be easier to get back home with the light rail and not think of having to adjust your tilt steering wheel upward. Finally, if this American manages to come in here once on each visit to Montreal area, then this Saveurs des Continents is more realistically a 4 star sort of place.
