Wow! This is my new favourite restaurant. This restaurant…read morereminds me a tad of The Melting Pot in the states, where you cook at the table using fondue oil, cheese and choco. But this elevates that process and is Japanese, which is one of my favourite flavour profiles. The ambiance is so nice. There are screens between the tables so that you can cook and eat in private, which I really appreciated. Being new to the process and restaurant, I felt so fortunate to have Jarred as my server. He explained how everything worked and was so patient with me. Basically, you pay one price for all you can eat...and it's such a bargain! There are so many meats, sides and even desserts to choose from. Jarred helped me choose and was so patient explaining everything that had been marinated in soy sauce and was not gluten free. I was disappointed I couldn't have beef, so he told me he would grab some brisket without the marinade. I ended up ordering that brisket, shrimp and sausage for the meat. The sides were sweet potato in a brown sugary sauce, corn, pineapple, and rice. I can say that the sausage was my favourite, had a nice sweetness to it and different from the typical sausage you get elsewhere. You use the grill to cook everything which is so much more fun than just sitting and waiting for the food to arrive. Everything was so fresh and just tasted amazing. The grilled pineapple was divine! Jarred also suggested I order the Bibimbap. It was a dish with seaweed, veggies, and an egg on top. It tasted like an amazing sushi roll. I also had an UME pineapple drink. You can add an extra oz of alcohol for just $2. It was delicious. There are always staff around and they clear dishes you are finished with super fast. Everything moves there like a well-oiled machine. For dessert, I had this little creme brulee, which was just the right size not to overstuff your tummy. So amazing all warm and bubbly after it sat on the grill. One of the best I've ever had. While writing this review, I discovered there is a location relatively close to where I live in Waterloo. I will definitely be going. This isn't just an extraordinary dinner, it was an extraordinary experience. Perfect food, perfect service, and such a great value! This would be so fun for a date night or night out with friends. I will definitely frequent this restaurant, LOVE it! This location also has a parking lot, which is most welcome in Ottawa!

While eating, I found a piece of metal/steel wool in the chicken that was served to me. This is a serious safety issue, imagine if I have swallowed it. Then instead of addressing the situation properly, we were only offered 10% off, which doesn't reflect how serious this incident is. (Looks like really not) I even asked them how do they handled this situation, and they just said 10% off is the best they can do ‍ This is not just a small mistake, it's a food safety concern!! Posting this to raise awareness and hopefully encourage better standards when it comes to food safety.

TL;DR/The Short Version: Pan-asian food court vendor in…read morePlace d'Orleans. The Chicken Teriyaki was the best I've ever had at a food court! The Long Version: I love supporting small independent businesses and have found great eats in food courts, at food trucks and in industrial parks. So when I saw that the Place d'Orleans food court had a new vendor that wasn't a chain, I wanted to check out. I first noticed this eatery in July 2025 but it opened in May 2025. The bonus was that the mall was having this promotion for all of July 2025 where if you spend $25 or more at one participating food court vendor after 5pm Monday -Saturday you take your receipt to Guest Services and you get a $10 mall gift card. What a great deal! And Umi Eatery was on the list of participating vendors! Umi Eatery sells pan-asian fare. They have Bento boxes, teriyaki, ramen, udon, poke bowls, bibimbap, Tanghulu, mochi, bubble tea and more. I got the chicken teriyaki ($9.99) and the beef bibimbap ($16.99). The chicken teriyaki was fantastic! Easily the best chicken teriyaki I've ever had at a food court. I found it superior to places like Teriyaki Experience and Edo Japan. And even better than some sit-down restaurants I've had it at. It was full of flavour and not oily/greasy at all. And it wasn't too saucy or wet. It had chicken, rice, bean sprouts, broccoli, red cabbage and carrots. The portion size was good. I will definitely get this again. The beef bibimbap was very respectable for fast food. Not as good as most sit-down restaurants, but better than some sit-down restaurants I've been to. It had white rice, carrots, zucchini, bean sprouts, kimchi, beef and a sunny side up fried egg. It came with a side of Gochujang. I enjoyed it, but found the chicken teriyaki more flavourful and better bang for my buck. I shared both dishes with my parents and they agreed with my assessment. Service was excellent. The man working there was both the cashier and the cook and he was very courteous and efficient. He even advised me of the mall promotion when he gave me my receipt. I had taken advantage of the mall promotion with another vendor in the food court previously and not only did they not mention the promotion but they didn't even give me a receipt and I had to ask for it. So customer service at Umi Eatery reigns supreme! Lol. I returned on a subsequent visit and got their chicken teriyaki again and their Takoyaki (6 pieces for $6.99). The Takoyaki was refried from frozen, but still very tasty for what it was. And they were generous with the bonito flakes. I asked for no sesame seeds and they happily accommodated. They are my new favourite vendor in this food court! Lots of free parking in the mall parking lot. Also very accessible by public transit since Place d'Orleans is an OC Transpo hub. New Sushi recently opened up on December 7, 2023 in the plaza at Tenth Line and Brian Coburn in Orleans. I got to try them at a party at my parents' house. My brother brought the Party Tray C (which was 64 pieces for $63). The price was great and the platter was aesthetically pleasing, but the rice was really bland. It tasted like plain rice. It could have used some seasoning and rice vinegar. The maki were well rolled though, they did not fall apart like at some places. I don't eat pickled ginger or wasabi, so I can't personally comment on these, but my brother and sister-in-law were not a fan of these items from there. I was very happy though, that they accomodated the request for no sesame seeds. The Party Tray C had 16 nigiri, 24 maki and 24 sashimi. The sashimi slices were nice and thick. You get 4 pieces each of shrimp, crab stick, white tuna, salmon, snapper and surf clam. The maki were 6 pieces each of California, Dynamite, spicy salmon and cucumber. The nigiri were 2 pieces each of shrimp, crab stick, white tuna, red tuna, salmon, snapper, squid and mackerel. Good variety. They also have an all maki platter (Party Tray B, 60 pieces for $59) for those who prefer just rolls (like me). My brother and sister-in-law were more critical of this place, but I thought it was good, other than the bland rice. Ingredients tasted fresh and I liked the maki. I didn't have any nigiri or sashimi. There's lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot. (19)
