This was my first time to this location having been a few times to the Dartmouth Crossing one. I found the decor similar and my only issue is that the space is limited and as such the tables seem just a bit too close. There was a couple in particular that seemed to hang on our every word....no matter how low we tried to talk. The food here was as good as their other location. I found the sushi very good but not the best (hence the rating). None of my rolls fell apart (always good) and the temperature of the rolls was good (the rice was not cold). I stuck to basics and my friend was adventurous. The unagi was very good. The spicy scallop maki was good but seemed something was not quite right and I'd hate to suggest that it wasn't 100% fresh but that could've been it as my taste buds for raw fresh scallops is pretty good. The Green Dragon (Fusion) and Firecrackers Dream my friend really liked and I took some pictures which I will post. The service was very good. The waitress forgot my water near the beginning but once reminded she apologized and as another Reviewer stated she was sincere and even explained she had poured out the ice cubes and put the glass down and then forgotten - all perfectly fine. The bathrooms are another matter. I do not know how long the hot water problem has been an issue in the ladies room but for goodness sake get it fixed. Both hot and cold taps have way too hot water coming out with a sign that I finally noticed on how to get cold water out. This is a very good restaurant. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly hostess who brought me to my table with several menus. It was lunch hour, and there were many patrons. Everything looked delicious on the menu. I ordered Japanese curry. First a nice bowl of miso soup came with a spoon. Not too hot, not too cold, just right, I sipped it slowly. Next my curry came and an artist in the kitchen livened up my rice with a cute decoration (see my photo). I always come here with a group of friends or by myself. I love this place. The go to is always the Miso soup and salad, with an order of spicy salmon and spicy nigiri. Boyfriend and I went today, and I got the assorted maki dinner (Miso and salad included), and the tonkatsu appitizer. He got two orders of spicy salmon and salmon nigiri. The price will always be expensive, but the quality of the food is will always make me come back. Sometimes the California rolls are a hit and miss, but the fish will always be on point. Service here is quick and precise, but sometimes the waitresses are a bit slow because of other orders. Its to be expected. On a Friday night it's always packed here to get a table.. So get here as soon as you can. It's a great relaxing atmosphere and you're able to watch the chefs prep sushi... It was lunchtime and I was in Clayton Park and in the mood for sushi! I turned to the Yelp app on my phone and said Help Yelp!, sushi Clayton Park, and it led me to this restaurant. When I arrived, a friendly and polite man met me at the door and guided to me to my table. Elegant decor, nice atmosphere, with other people eating Japanese lunch, so my first impression was very favourable. Next another kind man brought me several menus to look at, for drinks, for lunch and for the restaurant. He also brought me a glass of water, which I asked for. I studied all the menus carefully and finally settled on Okonomiyaki. Believe me it was hard to decide, as there were so many delicious sounding Japanese dishes. To start with, my nice waiter brought me a hot red bowl of miso soup. While I could have sipped the soup from the bowl, I opted for Canadian style, with a Japanese spoon, which helped cool it down a bit. Next he brought me my treat of the day, my okonomiyaki which was served in a heated black metal pan on a wooden serving board. It was really good, with so many flavours and textures in one dish. I liked watching the bonito flakes dance on my plate while I was eating. The heated metal pan kept it hot for a long time. A large portion, very tasty. I would order it again. Yes I would order it again, but also there were also so many other items on the menu I would like to try! The next table over ordered some awesome looking sushi. They must be regulars! The Lacewood Shopping Centre location of Sushi Nami Royale is one of three outlets in the Halifax area. The dining room is pleasantly appointed in dark woods, with the sushi chefs working behind a counter immediately to your left. Tables are clustered around the counter, giving you absolute assurance that your meal is fresh as of the moment you order it. We did take-out from Sushi Nami Royale on a Saturday night, around 6pm. There was a 50 minute wait and we were a bit uncertain as to whether it would be worth it. It was fantastic. We chose the tekka maki, the spicy scallop roll and the black dragon with eel. The spicy scallop roll was hands-down the favourite for both of us, but the black dragon was a close second. As with other sushi places in Halifax, the prices are a bit high. This evening, we and our friends with their 3yr old went to this location for dinner. One of our friends had never been interested in trying Japanese cuisine, though that opinion has been dramatically turned around. We ordered the Veggie Tempura, which was crispy and great! The Beef Tataki was tasty, though had a bit more gristle than usual. We very much enjoyed the flavourful Mini Kamikaze and Spicy Shrimp Rolls! They were accompanied by plenty of Wasabi and thinly sliced Ginger. Our friends enjoyed the Veggie Maki dinner and Teriyaki Chicken dinners. Their 3 year old had the house salad which she enjoyed. I have had the salad here before and the unique dressing is great! When our friend (who had gone the safe route with the Teriyaki) tried the Mini kamikaze, he really liked them and proclaimed he will be ordering them on his next visit. Their 3 year old also ate a Sweet Potato Maki roll, and enjoyed it! While the food, cleanliness and décor are excellent, we did find the service lacking. When the first appetisers were brought over, we had asked for a fork for the 3 year old for her salad. It took until the main courses arrived (after more appetizers were also delivered to our table and the server reminded) for the fork to arrive. We had also asked for extra napkins and were eventually brought 2 for a table of 5, (including a child - whom one would expect to be a bit messier than adults). We were not checked on, ran out of waters/drinks early in the meal and napkins were in short supply. When we wanted desert and "needed" water, we had to flag the server down. (I'd stolen my husbands water while he still had some beer). Eventually when it was time for the bill, it was difficult to get the server's attention and we went to the register to pay as she did not come back to the table to collect payment. For the record, there were 3 servers for 11 active tables. I think the server training needs to be improved at this location as that is the only thing really holding them back from being excellent. Been here a few times, and will likely be here more. Atmosphere is great, and there is plenty of selection. If you come during happy hour, you'll get a little more bang for your buck through discounts. The sushi itself is relatively good, I say relatively because a lot of sushi restaurants in HRM are dogshit. Service was always good the couple times I've been there, and food gets to your table pretty quickly. It's a bit expensive, but nothing ridiculous. And if price is an issue, you should definitely come during happy hour. Tbh, I can't really complain about anything, so I guess they get 5 stars. I love sushi! Now! I haven't always liked it. In fact i don't really like seafood. My seafood intake is mainly Fish and Chips, and now Sushi! I took me a while to get into eating more than a few, and branching out into the more fishy bits. To my delight, i found this little spot. Thanks to my wife and friends! It has changed my sushi eating for the better. The fish is always fresh, never tastes or smells fishy, and the Spicy Salmon is my favourite here! Popped in for a light lunch on a drab January Thursday. Immediate impression is of a minimalist, very Japanese décor and plenty of space. Reception and service were very quick, though we had arrived just before the rush. We ordered a shared starter of shrimp tempura, which were excellent. Lightly battered and juicy. We then shared a White Dragon and a Rainbow roll. Good size, fresh, though perhaps not quite as lavishly garnished as some I've had and I noted with some disappointment the inclusion of the dreadful fake crab in the Rainbow. That stuff seems to get everywhere. All the chefs and staff were Asian, as were many of the clientele, which is generally a good sign. Will definitely be back. read more

I love sushi so much if I could eat it everyday I would. I have tried 90% of sushi restaurants in Halifax. If I haven't eaten there its probably because I don't know they exist. Point is I KNOW MY SUSHI BARS people. Sushi Nami is by far the best sushi restaurant I have been to. It is clean and comfortable. And not only do they have so much variety on the menu, their service is really good. I love Sushi Nami, my only issue is they do not deliver. I have so much of a problem with this I started a twitter campaign to get them delivering, Unfortunately it only went as far as re-tweets from so many Haligonians (include themselves-they re-tweeted!!) I have been to this location many times, and every time my experience is different. The food is always excellent. Last night I started with a Mango Salad, so delish.. followed by 2 rolls: Unagi and Philidelphia. Sushi Nami makes their Phili roll with the salmon on top, not my fave. I would rather have it wrapped up with the cream cheese. My Unagi roll was awesome. Like I said food is always good. The atmosphere is fantastic, lots of room and beautiful decor. BUT...I will have to agree with the other yelpers on this one, service here isn't always great. It can get really busy really fast and you can be easily forgotten. Last night this is exactly what happened. One thing that truly bothers me is when I am not asked how my food is... All in all, good spot. Take out is always a good option! The food quality is usually quite good, though I've had a bad experience where I had ordered tobiko that came frozen solid, and the waitress suggested I wait for it to thaw and was unpleasantly surprised that I asked her to take it back. This is probably the only time that I would rate and give out a one star to a restaurant. Service was super slow and server told us they havent even got one break yet, I dont think that's our fault and also we dont deserve the low quality service and food because of that. The wasabi on the plate was already dry out, sushi roll was already cold when its on the table, unaju(bbq eel on rice)was't good as well because rice was dry and cold, and eel was a bit bitter. They might able to fool somebody else with the low quality food and people would never know but I eat Japanese food for a long long time and all my other three friends had the experiences working in japanese restaurant. I usually eat at the Dresden (Spring Garden) location because it's close to my school, but this location is closer to home so I decided to try it out. First thing to note: it LOOKS a LOT fancier than the Dresden location! It was a split second decision to go eat here, so I went in my sweatpants and an old sweater....I felt a little out of place. The chairs are really comfortable, they have cozy booths for bigger (5-6 people?) groups, and the lighting sets the mood for a romantic, calm, atmosphere. Food: was great! The quality is definitely the same as the other location. I could live off this food and never get sick of it! I did, however, realize the food was smaller at this location. I ordered tempura and while they gave me the same amount as the other location, they were cut smaller. The rolls were generally the same...maybe a bit tighter rolled and therefore a bit smaller, but they were delicious and very filling! Service: so friendly! Our waitress was always smiling. She was also on the ball for keeping our drinks full and checking on us. Not necessarily a bad thing, but it is worth mentioning service seemed a little TOO rushed at certain times. Example: there was one point it seemed like she was coming over to take my plate, but I still had a roll left. Then she took my plate before I had even finished chewing the last peice. It would have been nice to not have the waitress constantly at our table....let us have a few minutes to chat. I was with my fiance after all. But overall, service is great. Went in for a late lunch/early dinner around 4pm but the restaurant was about 80% full with 3 servers and perhaps 10 tables (4 empty). Took about 20 mins to get seated. Place settings were not provided, took another 15 mins to get a server's attention to order. Had to ask another server for chopsticks and soy sauce dish after food was served. Waiters never checked up on us and took a while to get their attention every time. Ding 1 point for service. Order sashimi and sushi (maki). Wife got teriyaki. Teriyaki and maki was great (really liked it), but sashimi wasn't sliced to an appropriate size. Each piece was about 4 times as large as you'd expect from any other restaurant, not the most comfortable bite size. Two of the sashimi pieces were a bit fishy/stale smelling and everything except salmon had a strange stringy/hardened texture in parts (not throughout). Felt pretty grossed out. Ding another point. I would still go back here but only for the maki rolls or one of the hot entrees. Avoid the sashimi!! 4 star without the sashimi. read more

I've eaten here probably a dozen times over the last year or so, and usually prefer dinner because of the low lighting, which I rather in any restaurant. About 20 tables of two and four-seaters (a couple booths?) with sushi bar to the side. Simple decor, modern, clean style, red & black coloring, with register at the rear. Delicious spicy edamame (seems to be sautéed in olive oil with crushed roasted red pepper and possibly garlic? I should ask. I've taken to ordering this at most Japanese restaurants lately due to me being on Weight Watchers, so not sure the spicy option was very healthy or not, but it WAS delicious. I crave it regularly and tried it at home, to no avail). Very good sweet potato croquette (Deep fried sweet potato mixed with cream cheese, avocado, onions, and seaweed, although I couldn't really detect the seaweed). I try not to order this often as it's obviously not the healthiest thing on the menu, but if you like fried foods, you will like this). Standard, good vegetable tempura (not too greasy and the vegetables keep their fresh, crispiness). Very good Firecrackers Dream maki (spicy mayo, bread crumbs, tempura bits, choice of avocado or cucumber). The pieces of this were a little big, but not too big to fit into my small mouth. LOL Vegetable dragon roll is good, but I find the pieces too large to chew properly, so you spend your whole time covering your mouth with a napkin, unable to speak, unless you opted to break up the pieces on your plate, and who wants to do that with sushi? My partner enjoys the beef teriyaki dinner that comes on a bed of rice & veggies, with miso soup, salad and choice of ice cream for dessert. Standard bar choices. I've ordered a bottle of pinot grigio here which was good. Service is always excellent here, very friendly and food arrives reasonably fast. Although there is nothing unique about this place as a Japanese restaurant in general, it's one of the better choices in Clayton Park, so I get it for take-out often, as well as dining in. Sept 2018: don't go here as much as I used to. Nothing has gotten worse, just my tastes have changed. Came for lunch on a hot, sunny Monday and I was the only customer at 12:30, followed by two solo customers by the time I left. Still great and fast service. I go to Sushi Nami pretty often. It's more for a comfortable "I know what I'm going to order" every time I come here. I call it more of a casual place, but this is one of my more favourite sushi places in Halifax. I always get 3 things when I come here: spicy miso soup (the best in hfx), japanese seaweed salad, and the Tropicana roll. This is my concrete order and these are all solid items. If you go (after 9pm I believe?), they have a special menu where it's a little bit cheaper on select items. If you have extra room in the belly, make sure to try the black sesame ice cream. The colour can be a little off putting but it's very taaaaasty :) The green tea ice cream is also great. The atmosphere is clean, not too loud, and the service is good. read more

Will never go to Sushi Nami Royale Clayton Park again. I eat sushi in Halifax regularly and my regular spot was closed so I decided to try another place. I ordered pick up, once I got there I stood at the door for 15 minutes with no one even agnologing I was even there even though the server walked by me 4 times and there was only two tables in the restaurant. I eventually flagged her down and said I was there for my pick up, she and the chef both said oh we made a while ago (even though I was there before the time she told me) and they said oh and yes we are closing. Which means if I had not already ordered they would have just let me stand not agnologing me and would have not been able to get anything. Once I finally get home with my food I got very minimal. The rolls were very small and the pizza was tiny and had a burnt taste to it. I paid double what I usually pay and got 3 times less food. Biggest waste of money. read more

Very delicious sushi! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, sushi fan or not. If you are ever thinking about trying sushi for the first time or want to see what sushi should taste like, please give Sushi Nami a try! I love sushi, however, didn't start loving it until I tried Sushi Nami. Other restaurants in Halifax just don't compare in flavour and freshness. The veggies are crisp and perfectly ripe, the fish is firm and fresh with rich colours, and wow, the flavour is incredible! Whichever location you go to, Dresdon row, Laceood dr. or dartmouth crossing, you will be pleased. The service and the food is great at all locations. The service is slightly slower at the Dresdon row location and I find that the taste is the best at the dartmouth crossing location however they are all fantastic. The dartmouth crossing location also has a tappanyaki table (where they cook in front of you) which is great fun for a group! When I order takout it normally takes about 15-20 minutes for them to have it ready.... this is the normal wait time for the sushi to be prepared, as I've eaten and had takeout from here many many times. I would recommend anything on their menu, as I've tried the majority of it, however I have a few favourites to share: If you like things a little bit spicy be sure to try the Fuji Mountain roll (especially if you like tempura bits, as it's covered in them!). Another must try is the mini Kamakazie roll, it's deep fried and covered in a delicous creamy/spicy sauce and served a little warm which is a delightful change when paired with other rolls that arn't spicy. Also, the Spicy Salmon or Tuna rolls are very good. If you prefer your sushi on the fresh/cool side (I love both and usually order a mixture of spicy and not spicy) I stongly recommend any of the dragon rolls, eel being my ultimate favourite. Also, be sure to try the california rolls(with roe), and the unagi(eel) maki. As for appetizers, the spring rolls are perfect. The miso soup is really good however, I prefer the saltier version they serve at Hamachi House. If you like spicy foods, the spicy miso soup has some kick :) yum. I've tried the Sashimi, however I don't prefer it as it doesn't have as much flavour as the maki or fusion rolls do. Regardless, it was very fresh tasting and we practially finished the whole plate! In particular, I loved the Salmon and the Tuna. The snapper didn't have much flavour and I'm not a fan of the texture of the Octopus(which was the only thing we didn't finish) It can be a bit pricy, however I believe it is totally worth it! You're likely to pay $40-50 to fill two people (no drinks), depending on if you buy traditional maki or the fushion rolls. However if you dine-in between 3 and 5pm or 9:30 to closing, they have specials. Everything on their appetizer and traditional maki menu is about a $1 off. So, when you order for 2 people you can definatly cut your bill a bit which is nice. read more
