Japanese curry teeming with veggies and a cute rice happy face!
    Karen S.

This is a very good restaurant. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by a friendly hostess who brought me to my table with several menus. It was lunch hour, and there were many patrons. Everything looked delicious on the menu. I ordered Japanese curry. First a nice bowl of miso soup came with a spoon. Not too hot, not too cold, just right, I sipped it slowly. Next my curry came and an artist in the kitchen livened up my rice with a cute decoration (see my photo). The curry was yummy and hot, the waitress was so nice, and I was happy with my choice.

I always come here with a group of friends or by myself. I love this place. The go to is always the Miso soup and salad, with an order of spicy salmon and spicy nigiri. Boyfriend and I went today, and I got the assorted maki dinner (Miso and salad included), and the tonkatsu appitizer. He got two orders of spicy salmon and salmon nigiri. The price will always be expensive, but the quality of the food is will always make me come back. Sometimes the California rolls are a hit and miss, but the fish will always be on point. Service here is quick and precise, but sometimes the waitresses are a bit slow because of other orders. Its to be expected. They are great at what they do, and they remember when my friends and I come in. 5 stars, I will always come again.

This would have been a solid 4 stars but for the really ordinary chicken teriyaki. The sushi was delicious - I will definitely come back for more in the future! The restaurant itself is very beautiful. Elegant decor, feels really upscale, considering the location. Good staff and quick service -- I look forward to trying something other than the teriyaki and revisiting this review, because the sushi was excellent.

My Okonomiyaki on a heated metal pan on a wooden serving piece. See the dancing bonito flakes? Sooo good.

It was lunchtime and I was in Clayton Park and in the mood for sushi! I turned to the Yelp app on my phone and said Help Yelp!, sushi Clayton Park, and it led me to this restaurant. When I arrived, a friendly and polite man met me at the door and guided to me to my table. Elegant decor, nice atmosphere, with other people eating Japanese lunch, so my first impression was very favourable. Next another kind man brought me several menus to look at, for drinks, for lunch and for the restaurant. He also brought me a glass of water, which I asked for. I studied all the menus carefully and finally settled on Okonomiyaki. Believe me it was hard to decide, as there were so many delicious sounding Japanese dishes. To start with, my nice waiter brought me a hot red bowl of miso soup. While I could have sipped the soup from the bowl, I opted for Canadian style, with a Japanese spoon, which helped cool it down a bit. Next he brought me my treat of the day, my okonomiyaki which was served in a heated black metal pan on a wooden serving board. It was really good, with so many flavours and textures in one dish. I liked watching the bonito flakes dance on my plate while I was eating. The heated metal pan kept it hot for a long time. A large portion, very tasty. I would order it again. Yes I would order it again, but also there were also so many other items on the menu I would like to try! The next table over ordered some awesome looking sushi. They must be regulars! Yes, I will be back again. I think I have found a great new place for Japanese lunch in Clayton Park, thanks to Yelp.

Amazing food and very fresh! Soooo many options for the 'all you can eat sushi', tried to have a little of everything and it was all delicious! Planning a trip down again soon, the craving for sushi is real.

The Lacewood Shopping Centre location of Sushi Nami Royale is one of three outlets in the Halifax area. The dining room is pleasantly appointed in dark woods, with the sushi chefs working behind a counter immediately to your left. Tables are clustered around the counter, giving you absolute assurance that your meal is fresh as of the moment you order it. We did take-out from Sushi Nami Royale on a Saturday night, around 6pm. There was a 50 minute wait and we were a bit uncertain as to whether it would be worth it. It was fantastic. We chose the tekka maki, the spicy scallop roll and the black dragon with eel. The spicy scallop roll was hands-down the favourite for both of us, but the black dragon was a close second. As with other sushi places in Halifax, the prices are a bit high. This review is only getting 4 stars for that reason, and because of the wait.

Mmmm cold days call for hot miso soup!

I called the restaurant and I couldn't hear the lady in the phone properly so as any restaurant they ask you for your name to make the pickup order but I guess she didn't need that information and interrupted me saying "NO, NO, NO" and I went silence until I'm like hello? and then I can finally order my food and she goes it's gonna take 15 minutes BYE and since I expected the order to take longer than that I tell her wait wait I am not going to be able to come in 15 minutes and she very rudely replied to me saying then you come here and order, ok? What kind of costumer service is that? I was so excited to try this sushi place but now I am not going to order anything because of the arrogant and rude attitude of that woman which left me with a bitter taste.

However; my last three orders from them have been terrible and costly. The first time, I ordered the king crab, which was markedly more expensive and received imitation. I ordered tuna belly and they asked to replace it with tuna with no compensation for the difference in cost after I agreed. I swept this under the rug. The next order; as an appetizer I ordered softshell crab appetizer, they sent the roll, again I swept it under the rug. This third order was the straw that broke the camels back: I'm done. My order compared to what I got, is in in the pictures. Ordered spicy salmon roll - got Tuna Maki. Ordered Negi-Hamachi (suppose to be yellow tail and green onion), got a salmon roll. Not maki with avocado or even tempura bits; just rice and salmon. Vast cost difference. I got the Alaskan roll I ordered, but that is mine and the other two are my kids rolls, so I clearly won't eat in front of them. I'm done. Something is seriously wrong there and at this point it's a waste of money.

I'm not saying anyone comes to an all-you-can-eat Nova Scotia sushi joint expecting an authentic Japanese experience, but this place takes a creative interpretation of the genre...let's call it sushi-inspired. Case in point: the fruit situation. Strawberries and bananas aren't exactly traditional sashimi accompaniments, but if you've ever thought "you know what this salmon needs? Fruit," then you're in the right place. Personally, the only fruit that I believe belongs in sushi is an avocado. I sampled an ambitious cross-section of the menu: hand rolls, nigiri, regular rolls, tempura, soups, curry, short ribs, weekend specials. The real adventure comes with anything sporting an action-movie name like "dynamite" or "volcano"--I discovered these translate to "swimming in sweet, creamy sauce." By the end of the meal, even if you skip dessert, everything starts tasting like dessert. Your seared nigiri arrives pre-glazed with creamy mayo and sauce, as if they're really committed to the theme. The only item that was safe from the sugar was the sashimi. That said, the service was genuinely great. Food arrived quickly, and the staff were as sweet as the sauces--friendly, attentive, and clearly taking pride in what they do. At nearly $40 per person, you could hit an izakaya for a different experience, but if you're the type who thinks donair sauce is a food group and condensed milk improves everything, this might just be your spot.

The beginning of our evening was okay - the server was a little awkward - but we got our orders placed, and the first few dishes came quickly. After we finished the food in front of us we noticed we were still waiting on a couple things (All of our sushi). It made sense that it would take some time, and we were okay with waiting, but after TWO HOURS and countless attempts to get someone over it was very frustrating. We made eye contact with a female waiter who stared back several times and once even shook her head at us and still didn't come. We attempted to request it on the tablet for the check because we were getting pretty tired and just wanted to leave at that point. Still nothing. It was the same when we called for water. When we finally got someone's attention, we were hungry again because it had taken SO LONG that we still asked for the sushi we were missing. The woman brought us of the things we requested, even after showing her the order history on the tablet. Around this time, we had all agreed that after eating we felt nauseous, and one of my friends even had to go to the bathroom to puke it up. The bathrooms smelt TERRIBLE, and there was paper towel strewn about the floors and sink. Overall we sat there for about 4 hours. We finished eating around an hour and a half, waited two, and then waited another 45 minutes for our check after that. Makes me sick. Staff is awkward, unwelcoming, and rude. Don't even get me started on the cups. Would not recommend it to a rat in the alleyway. Not worth the $45 dollars. Save yourself some time and go to Mizu.
