I love Wasabi House! It's close to where I stay when I visit Halifax and it's always my first choice for a low-key delicious meal. Let me tell you why. 1. Choice. Sushi, hot noodles, rice donburi, sashimi, tempura... whatever you're craving, they have it. 2. Price. It's cheap (and therefore probably not the best sushi you'll ever have, but whatever) and that means you can try more things! ALSO, TAKE NOTE: you get 10% off your order if you pay in cash :) 3. Portions. Sometimes I just want A LOT of sushi. I'm not looking for the most amazing fresh stuff, I just want spicy mayo and fish. Wasabi House delivers on that, every time. 4. Free sushi???? Wasabi House always gives you rolls "on the house", and sometimes they're really expensive ones, too. I don't want to seem ungrateful or greedy - it's always such a lovely surprise! 5. Speed. We've rarely had to wait for a table, even though it's usually full. Food is served quickly and the service is really great for such an affordable spot. TL;DR - Wasabi House is a very low-key place that never disappoints if you want a lot of satisfying sushi that won't break the bank.

Yes I get it, they give you 'free rolls or soup'. But I have seen this kitchen and it could be a scene in a horror movie. It is filthy. Rats chew through their wiring so often they constantly need repairs (which is what brought be there for a repair and how I saw the kitchen/back area). Sealed garbage bags were piled on the floor and when bumped would jostle as they had live rats crawling inside them. Raw fish was being prepared on a slab of unfinished plywood that covered the access hole to the unfinished basement. I was offered food for free for my services and kindly refused. Check the health inspector site. They have been shut down numerous times for failing to meet Nova Scotia food safety regulations.

All sushi taste the same and dry!

You get what you pay for! Instead of them giving free complimentary sushi, they should just improve their sushi rice and the dryness.

Lunch Combo A with shrimp and vegetable tempura and fried scallops

It's true what everyone says, Wasabi House gives out free rolls for any food that you purchase. They also have lunch specials and late night specials which are budget friendly and contains multiple options to choose from. I enjoy their speciality rolls, especially the Mount Fuji roll which is packed high with crab meat and drizzled with mayo. Although 8 pieces doesn't seem like a lot, but it is super filling. Today I had their combo A lunch special and it was a great deal at $8.99 and I got to choose two sides - veggie and shrimp tempura and fried scallops. We also received an interesting sushi combination on the house of sweet potato and banana. Overall, the lunch special was a bit plain and I would stick to their regular menu next time. Don't forget to bring cash as it gives you a 10% discount off your bill. They also give you After 8 chocolate sticks after your meal for a nice little treat.

My husband and i went to this place and found other review said they are Mandarin not real Japanese restaurant. Indeed that review make us a bit worried at beginning but finally the foods were good. If i have to challenge, i will says only the hot sake not good. Finally, I thought just don't expected very very very real Japanese sushi but it was good and better than buy from Sobeys (similar price) and good enough for i miss sushi at this moment. Plus, Service were very nice. Everything was good and we love here. We will come back in future.

    A lot of takeout tonight.

Miso soup comes with your combo. The first test is the miso soup which arrived hot and full of flavor. White miso was quite delicious. Green tea. Not the typical popcorn green tea. It had a flowery flavor similar to Jasmine. Kaiso (seaweed) salad. Very large portion with a light and fresh flavor. Crystal sushi combo Large portions of sushi. Quite obvious that everything is fresh. Refreshing use of panko inside the roll. Vegetarian sushi pizza - amazing! A one inch thick fried golden brown rice pizza base. It is layered with panko, sweet potato tempura, and slices of banana, avocado, mango, sesame seeds and topped with Japanese mayo. Complimentary dishes Torched salmon belly sushi with spicy mayo - this is a fatty salmon sashimi and it was yummy. Mango sushi was delicious Sweet potato tempura Shrimp sushi with even more delicious magic We had so much food; we had to take our time and really enjoy the sushi. We were blown away by the complimentary rolls and generosity. Clean bathrooms. Mouthwash inside.

I loooove wasabi house. The sushi is good, the service is friendly and it's such a cute little place. The wait times can be a bit long but if you come at the right time you'll be alright. Also the free rolls!! Amazing.

Wow Wow Wow. This place has pretty good sushis, I still have to look for something similar in Toronto. It just happened to be that we went during happy hour. We had ordered Spicy salmon sushi, Philly sushi, Butterfish sushi, California roll, Wasabi house special and Mount Fuji. I must say none of them disappointed me. I have to mention they were kind enough to give us 4 plates of sushi for "FREE" and they just didn't give us any veg sushi. They had sashimi and salmon belly sushi. Next time I shall order "Salmon belly sushi". Overall I am a Fan of this place. Note: If you are planning to order Mount Fuji, then make sure you take bunch of tissue with you, because that sushi is HUGE. It took 3 bites to finish that. Service: 4.5 Food: 5.0 Decor: 3.0

Oh Wasabi House, you are just my favourite. Yes you are a little on the small side and your waits can be long if I forget to make reservations. But your amazing staff and delectable food make it all worth it. I like coming to a restaurant where the staff makes you feel more like old friends than customers. I usually try to eat at least one thing new each time I visit Wasabi, last time I went I had the maki crystal. It comes with miso soup,( which I opted for spicy) and house salad. My old faithful the spicy miso, was the perfect amount of warm and spicy. I had the tempura for my appetizer it was crisp, hot and fresh, the shrimp was juicy and the sweet potato was perfect. Maki crystal comes with three small rolls, the spicy tuna, spicy salmon and dynamite roll. All three were quite generous with their fillings, the fish was cold and fresh, and just the right amount to spicy tempura bits, that were still nice and crispy.Though I didn`t have dessert this time, their simple banana tempura is always done to perfection, and the black sesame ice cream is a almost indescribable cold, yet toasty flavour. I like the atmosphere of this place late in the evening, its the perfect place to catch up with friends at the end of a work day or week. I am always satisfied and receive a delicious meal each time I come. And It`s the one place I never leave underwhelmed. My love affair with this place is still going strong.

The walls of Wasabi House know so much of my history. I'm feeling overwhelmed trying to review this place as it is now, because it isn't what it once was. It is now an excellent (by Halifax standards) sushi joint, when it used to be the Spartan. I sat at the counter and drank milkshakes with my dad before my feet could touch the ground. I brainstormed with best friends over egg lunches and coke cans about weekend mischief. I fell in and out of devastating (puppy) love a few of times here. But most importantly, I never spent more than $5. I can still hear Maria and other Maria and really old Maria's voices in my head. What a grimy, perfect little place this was to me. Alright. I'm finished. Wasabi House has really cleaned up this Quinpool corner and is serving up some of the freshest sushi I've ever had in Halifax. It unfortunately did cost more than $4, but you know what? It wasn't as pricy as I feared! Two of us dined like queens for $30, and the chef sent over a bonus roll! Apparently this is the norm, and what a fantastic norm this is! Free sushi is the best sushi! Decent ebi, California rolls and miso. Eating here was a bit of a mind fuck with my memory, but I'll definitely be back. Because, you know, free sushi.

Definitely one of the top places for sushi in Halifax, don't worry about the feeling of (did I order enough? Am I still going to be hungry?) because with every order they give you a number of free rolls, sometimes very expensive ones like torched salmon belly nigiri, and spicy salmon rolls. Wonderful staff, food quality is there, and they are quite fast for how busy it can get. Love this spot!

Pretty good food, and pretty good lunch prices. Although not as good as my favorite Japanese restaurant in town (Suzuki Sushi), it is still a good place. The sushi chef also makes some interesting food (such as the yam, crab, and mango roll), and the staff are friendly. The small place makes for a comfortable environment, and kids (mine included) seem to really love this place.

However; my last three orders from them have been terrible and costly. The first time, I ordered the king crab, which was markedly more expensive and received imitation. I ordered tuna belly and they asked to replace it with tuna with no compensation for the difference in cost after I agreed. I swept this under the rug. The next order; as an appetizer I ordered softshell crab appetizer, they sent the roll, again I swept it under the rug. This third order was the straw that broke the camels back: I'm done. My order compared to what I got, is in in the pictures. Ordered spicy salmon roll - got Tuna Maki. Ordered Negi-Hamachi (suppose to be yellow tail and green onion), got a salmon roll. Not maki with avocado or even tempura bits; just rice and salmon. Vast cost difference. I got the Alaskan roll I ordered, but that is mine and the other two are my kids rolls, so I clearly won't eat in front of them. I'm done. Something is seriously wrong there and at this point it's a waste of money.

I'm not saying anyone comes to an all-you-can-eat Nova Scotia sushi joint expecting an authentic Japanese experience, but this place takes a creative interpretation of the genre...let's call it sushi-inspired. Case in point: the fruit situation. Strawberries and bananas aren't exactly traditional sashimi accompaniments, but if you've ever thought "you know what this salmon needs? Fruit," then you're in the right place. Personally, the only fruit that I believe belongs in sushi is an avocado. I sampled an ambitious cross-section of the menu: hand rolls, nigiri, regular rolls, tempura, soups, curry, short ribs, weekend specials. The real adventure comes with anything sporting an action-movie name like "dynamite" or "volcano"--I discovered these translate to "swimming in sweet, creamy sauce." By the end of the meal, even if you skip dessert, everything starts tasting like dessert. Your seared nigiri arrives pre-glazed with creamy mayo and sauce, as if they're really committed to the theme. The only item that was safe from the sugar was the sashimi. That said, the service was genuinely great. Food arrived quickly, and the staff were as sweet as the sauces--friendly, attentive, and clearly taking pride in what they do. At nearly $40 per person, you could hit an izakaya for a different experience, but if you're the type who thinks donair sauce is a food group and condensed milk improves everything, this might just be your spot.
