The eel hand roll had bones... SO SO MANY BONES. I LOVE unagi and could not finish it because of the amount of bones they left behind. This has never, I mean never happened with me and unagi anything before. Not only this but as soon as we sat down we were ATTACKED by mosquitos. I know we're in the jungle and every night we got a few bites here and there. But this was something new. I felt like hundreds of pins were stabbing into me from the second I sat down. My friend and I each left with at least 10+ bites each (which turned into welts) despite the restaurant providing bug spray and bringing a bug repellent pot/smoke right next to us. I don't know why all the bugs concentrated here but it was hard for us or any of the neighboring people eating to enjoy the meal. Also, a day after I ate here (with nothing in between but bottled water), I became violently sick. I'm talking throw up at the airport sick and then a week in bed when I got home. Pretty sure it's food poisoning, I will NOT be back.

My group decided to check this place out after eating at Gitano, which was right across the street. Before even leaving Gitano, you can hear the music from Tora blaring all down the entire street. It was loud and super vibey. This is what you think of, when someone says "Tulum Party." The 6 of us got seated at a table. We only ordered drinks as we had just had dinner. We were then offered some sparklers from some of the staff there. We grabbed them and started dancing on the tables and having the best time of our life. It felt like we were in a music video. We had such a good time!!! While I can't remember the name of the drink I got, it was pretty good. The DJ plays great music, and has everyone moving left to right. This was like a club on steroids. The two downsides I have of this place are that it's extremely expensive. I think my drink cost about $25-$30 USD. That's ridiculous. But you have to expect that if you are on this street. All the places are extremely expensive and you are paying for the experience more than anything. The second downside is that if you go to the restroom while you are here, you will be offered drugs. I think that happened to us on more than one occasion, not only at Tora but everywhere else in Tulum. So just be cautious at all times. Apart from those two things, Tora is a pretty fun spot. I wouldn't go back though, simply because that whole environment is very stressful, it's way too expensive, and the traffic on the street is insane. It's a two way street that gets congested from 10pm-4am pretty much every night. However, many people do enjoy the place, so to each their own!

She brought out a complimentary soup with rice, not sure if it was some sort of miso soup but it was delicious. My husband is not a huge sushi person so he ordered the Vegetable Bao and he absolutely loved it. I ordered a sushi roll that was also very tasty. I clearly mentioned to the staff that I am pregnant and asked for my steak to be well done. When our steaks arrived, mine was rare inside. I immediately brought it to their attention, and they took it back. My husband waited to eat with me, and after about 10 minutes, they returned my steak -- yes, it was cooked through, but they had simply thrown it back on the grill, leaving the entire crust black and burned. A proper well-done steak should be baked or finished carefully, not charred. I had to cut around the burnt parts and could only eat the inside, leaving my plate full of burnt steak pieces. We also ordered banana cream and churro waffles for dessert -- both were disappointing, we barely had two bites each. They brought us two complimentary champagnes, which was thoughtful -- but again, I had already told them I was pregnant. They didn't bother to offer me a non-alcoholic alternative, so I couldn't enjoy anything. When the bill arrived, the manager had said the desserts would be complimentary, but they were still charged on the bill, along with the champagne we never ordered. After pointing this out, the waiter said he made the changes but questioned who told me that, claiming I "heard wrong." Only after insisting did he remove the desserts from the check. We paid $700 USD for a $626.16 bill, expecting the change in pesos as agreed. Based on the daily exchange rate (18.46), the change should have been 1,363.50 pesos, but we were given 1,240 pesos, short 123.5 pesos. When questioned, the waiter said, "our restaurant's rate is 17," which still didn't add up and left us short again. Throughout the entire experience, no one apologized -- not for the burnt steak, not for the billing confusion, and not for the dishonest handling of the exchange rate. In person, I gave them the chance to make things right, but they chose not to. That's why I'm writing this review -- not to complain, but to warn others. The music and fireworks were great, but the food, service, and honesty were deeply disappointing. Unfortunately, this experience ruined our anniversary night.

I would say this spot in particular is well known for big groups and bachelorette dinners. It is quite loud, so keep that in mind.
