My boyfriend and I stayed at the Sutherland House B&B, hosted by the wonderful Faye and Bob. If you're looking for weekend stay at the Finger Lakes, this is the place to go. One of their recent reviewers mentioned breakfast is an "event" here and that truly is an understatement. Faye cooks a three-course meal every morning, featuring fresh fruits, vegetables and sweets galore. My boyfriend isn't a breakfast guy but literally inhaled his dish once it was served. They also have you eat breakfast at a beautifully set table with fellow guests, though are incredibly accommodating of the current situation and ask that 1) guests where masks around the common areas, 2) only vaccinated guests eat at the table with others and 3) guests have the option to eat elsewhere if not comfortable in a public setting. I also cannot leave out the fact that Faye bakes fresh deserts and leaves them in the common area coffee bar for you to snack on throughout the day. Okay enough about the food! The house itself is beautiful and comfortable, with so many fine details. The rooms are bit tight but everything included shows that the really care - snacks, with no extra charge, or luxury soap items. They have an outdoor space that makes you feel one with nature. My boyfriend and I spent one night just drinking a bottle of wine out on their Adirondack chairs and it was lovely. The location itself is about a 5-minute drive into the town of Canandaigua, 20-30 minutes from Lake Seneca and about an hour from Watkins Glen. I wouldn't say it's the most central location but the B&B itself makes it worth it. You save money by skipping lunch because Faye & Bob's breakfast fills you up for the day. I recommend this place for a romantic getaway weekend or trip with a good friend. Thank you to Faye & Bob for the lovely stay. You both were so considerate and accommodating. Will be recommending this stay to all my friends and family, and will of course be returning.

It only took me a few minutes to feel relaxed, but I give that to the credit of our "hosts" Boy and Faye.

My husband and I pulled into the driveway and parked in the charming backyard. Walking up, the front porch is just adorable! If it had been warmer, I would have loved to sit out and enjoy the porch. We were greeted immediately by the owner and she gave us a tour and showed us to our room. We stayed in the Ann Eliza suite, the only room with a balcony. It was beautiful when you first walk in. Fluffy comfortable bed and those sheets!! Like heaven to sleep in. Breakfast each day was delicious. As I mentioned, I can be a piggy, so it took all of my willpower to not ask for seconds and thirds! Some of the courses LOOKED so simple and unsuspecting, but once you taste it, you can really appreciate and notice the unique flavors. Enjoy your stay if you decide to go!

We stayed most recently this past weekend and Jill & Rob made our stay perfect. We went for my birthday and upon arrival there was a sweet hand written card and a box of chocolate truffles. Jill also very kindly made our reservations for one of our nights dinners and also gave us so many suggestions for activities to do while in town. Of course the 3 course breakfast is top notch and absolutely delicious. One of our other favorites about the b&b is the private patio connected to the Ann Eliza suite which we stayed in. All in all we had a wonderful getaway and we cannot wait to go back! Thank you Jill & Rob!

The home is a beautifully restored and dates to the early 19th century. The guest rooms (stayed in the Carson room) were wonderfully furnished and exceptionally comfortable. Our room's bathroom is one of the finest of any place I have ever stayed. They have anticipated every possible need, from q-tips and cotton balls in the bathroom to a stocked fridge with beer, soda and water. A remarkable room. The food both days we stayed was also terrific. Especially the Eggs Benedict (one of my favorites), which was as good as I have ever had. But what I think sets this place a part is the hospitality. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we felt as if we were valued friends that came for a visit. We were met on the porch when we arrived. Introduced to other guest who were in the library. And promptly offered a glass of wine. While enjoying two glasses of wine with our hosts, they made suggestions (great ones at that) for dinner that night and the next and then called and made the reservations for us. After dinner on the first night, we joined our hosts and other guests for drinks and champagne to toast the first anniversary of fellow guest (who stayed at the inn on their wedding night as well). The Inn keepers provided the champagne (and wine) and had cute anniversary glasses for the toast. We sat talking to the other guests and hosts as if we had been old friends, well into the night. The second night after returning from a birthday celebration dinner for my girlfriend, we were surprised with one of the best chocolate cakes I have had. We sang happy birthday and again enjoyed the wine and company of our hosts. The attention to detail and hospitality without being intrusive sets The Red Door Inn apart. Simply Amazing!

Kathryn is such a gracious host, making sure every detail is just right and offering advice of things to do and places to see. Our room was very comfortable and well appointed. Breakfast was amazing and different each morning of our stay. In the evenings, we enjoyed her company as we wound down from our busy day. She is a big fan of The Voice and one evening we all got caught up on the current season! Canandaigua is a great location and has great options for dining in the area and Kathryn is very knowledgeable of the latest and greatest. We will definitely return next time we head back to the region.
