I've mostly just had experience with one doctor here, Samantha Malm, but have seen two other doctors as well for unexpected issues and have always had a great experience.

So, I had been experiencing a tension headache for a week. Went to the ER to get it evaluated. All…read morei can say is I was so greatly taken care of! Im 19 year old woman, pretty young and i have anxiety. I obviously was nervous. The staff were so nice! They were responsive about my head injuries i have had previously, and made sure to joke around to make care easier. First thing they did was get be on some light painkillers, didn't help much, but it was nice of them. The guy who was treating me had 3 daughters, so already he was responsive to me. He was hilarious. I am honestly very scared of needles, which he was quick to point out as ridiculous since i have 18 gauge holes all over me. I have a lot of piercings (like a lot). He said this would be nothing, and told me to be at the beach. My demeanor may have made their jobs easier because I did get a small giggle out of a seemingly very exhausted nurse near him. My nurse in the ER main area was honestly the best. It was cool because she made my appointment personal! I have gotten concussions from rugby in the past, and the nurse who took my case said she came because she also plays rugby! CRAZY. Honeslty she gave me great advice and told me to consider (seriously consider) stopping. She was great. I wish i could remember her name! (She was the best nurse i have ever had for anything ever shoutout her). I was definitely not wanting to stay long so as soon as they said i was ok and not suffering anything life threatening i got out of there. They gave me a muscle relaxer that was an absolute godsend and i'm so thankful for that. I recently have been getting better. My headache comes back sometimes, and i believe that after recent a head CT, it is a chronic migraine or something else like neck or muscle tension. Could also be Post Concussion Syndrome. Oh also i got that head CT at Alta Bates too! It was like 5 minutes and the nurse was great. Results came back normal! Alta Bates is also where I was born so nice reunion with the place after 19 years! I recommend it. Side Note: I did come on a very not busy day, and i had pre evaluated insurance that is partnered with the hospital. Thus my care was a lot quicker than others. I got very lucky, but the staff were were truly put me at ease. Still, take this review with a slight grain of salt.

When we were discharged from the hospital, I remember one of the nurses like walking me all the way to the car making sure I was like buckled in and they warmly said goodbye to me. Before doing so on my earlier part after the birth, the nurses would check on me. I had unlimited supply of water and round the clock assistance whenever I needed it, and they worked with my birthing Doula quite well during the actual birth.

If they're only giving my 5 minutes of my doctor's time, the least they could do is pay attention and get it right. I'm not confident that Mychart messaging adequately protects patient privacy. They frame it like youre messaging your PC directly however every time use this feature i either dont get a response or I wait several days to get a thoughtless response from some random non-medical person in the office. I recently waited 1.5 - 2 months to get a 15 minute call with my doctor, but they cancelled at the last minute because I mentioned that I'm traveling out of state for work which I have to do quite frequently. John Muir Health policy is to only speak with you when you're physically in CA which in my case creates an unacceptable amount of time where I lack coverage. Needless to say, I'm looking elsewhere for a new PC.

I arrived right at 11 because I had gotten lost trying to find the correct building. I had never been to this location before, and having two separate buildings made it confusing to navigate. I parked on the opposite side of John Muir so I didn't even see the sign from where I parked and went down the wrong elevator. Once I finally found the correct building, I checked in and was given a number. I assumed my name would also be called, especially if I somehow missed my number. I was sitting a little farther away from the robotic voice announcing numbers, and after about 40 minutes, I realized I had apparently been waiting for no reason. I never heard my number or my name called. Mind you, there's people left and right being called from different areas of the office, other people are taking phone calls, so of course it gets a little hectic and noisy! What I don't understand is if a patient checks in and misses their number being called, why is there no attempt to call their name afterward? I was clearly checked into the system and physically sitting in the waiting room. There should be some sort of follow-up rather than just leaving a patient sitting there indefinitely. I ended up being there for around 45 minutes for a blood draw. By that point I was sitting in my seat trying not to cry out of pure frustration. I also made a conscious effort not to take my frustration out on the phlebotomist because I knew it wasn't necessarily their fault. I understand that healthcare facilities get busy and delays happen, but this felt less like a normal delay and more like a poor check-in/calling system. Patients coming in for lab work may already be dealing with stressful medical situations. The last thing they need is to sit there wondering whether they've been forgotten. I really hope they improve their process for patients who miss hearing their number, because simply calling the patient's name afterward would have prevented this entire experience.

As a patient, I am probably the worst when it comes to anticipating stress, pain, and that feeling of not being in control. Yet at Stanford Medical Center Emeryville, I found myself actually relaxing before surgery. Every member of the team took the time to get to know me, understand my needs, and help me navigate what could have been one of the toughest experiences. This breast reduction has changed my life for the better. Knowing that the maestro of reduction surgery was on my side has made my future feel lighter, healthier, and more fulfilling. With the expert precision of Dr. Miller in Plastic Surgery, I am living my dream without the constant back pain. As a surgeon, he is exceptional. As a human being, he truly cares. He listens, he understands, and he gets you. I would do it all over again -- especially knowing my Stanford Medical team would be there beside me. I've been trying to reach the clinic for nearly a week and NO ONE PICKS UP THE PHONE. Where are all the operators? I try calling in all different hours of the day hoping to get someone. I've only gotten someone to pick up the phone ONCE. They transferred me to the wrong department. I call back again and they AGAIN transferred me to ANOTHER wrong department. I gave up for that day. Since then, I have been on hold for nearly an hour each time I call in, and no operator will pick up the phone. I've had an urgent referral sent over and can't even reach anyone to make an appointment. I've been to other Stanford Health clinics and didn't have this kind of experience. Too bad this Emeryville clinic location is the only one that has the center that I need. I am shocked at how horrible the staffing is here and I haven't even visited this location physically yet. Absolutely despicable.

I came in for sensitive lab work and had specifically been instructed by my doctor to make sure certain testing details were confirmed with the lab. When I tried to explain that, Darlene cut me off mid-sentence and said, "We have everything we need," before I was even able to finish what my doctor had told me. Earlier in the interaction, when I asked a simple question about the testing instructions, she also responded in an unnecessarily sharp and dismissive manner. Her overall demeanor was curt, abrasive, and made me feel like asking questions or trying to communicate relevant information was an inconvenience. I became so uncomfortable enough that I asked if someone else could assist me. She told me she was the only person who could, so I said I would go to another location instead. To make matters worse, as I was packing up my things to leave, she sarcastically said, "Bye." I've generally had positive experiences with Sutter, which is why this stood out so much. If you have the option to get your lab or bloodwork done at another location, I would strongly consider it.

She is hungry for power and will make you weight. The other one (Kristina) is very pleasant and actually does her job. So it goes. I've gotten "Physical Therapy" (PT) here. While the PT was very pleasant, my PT was less active and more passive. It was 30 minutes maximum of getting my injury gently massaged and gossip.
