I am a new patient with PPO insurance trying to establish care after having Kaiser for 20 years. [[HIGHLIGHT]]While I was able to make an appointment with PCP, I am facing challenges with making an appointment with a specialist.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]First, the agent insisted I needed a referral, but I reminded her I did not as I have a PPO. She was rude but changed her tune when she realized she was wrong, but I had already requested a supervisor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]She refused after several requests and hung up.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called back and spoke to supervisor, but could not provide a better process for me to contact specialist and advised they may require referral.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He transferred call to office, but hold times are off the charts!! Two separate calls, over 15 minutes for each call with no acknowledgement from staff. They pick up call, then put back through the hold queue. I believe I have made an error in selecting Sutter Health as my new provider. read more

Been with Sutter 11 years. Usually get good care and referrals. Wait time to see Drs had gotten much longer lately. I was referred to ENT and Cardiology specialists for care. Went thru the referral process, verified insurance etc. No changes in my insurance. Saw cardiologist and ENT. Need further medical care from them. Suddenly their offices cancelled my appts and will not see me. Reason stated "my insurance doesn't pay enough". REALLY ?! After they approved the referal etc. They will not send referral to new providers as stat or urgent . So my wait time is 6-7 months. Worried especially since I needed tests and protential treatment from cardiologist. Denied necessary care. Endangering lives ! Terrible referral precessing--It took them 30 days just to tell me my urgent referral was approved. Ridiculous delays in getting in with specialist. My insurance does not require a referral and I can't get into see a cardiologist after an emergency visit that was marked as urgent and I would''t be booked for 3 months. Then my family's health insurance changed because my wife's employer chose a different carrier and now we are starting the 30 day referral process over again and I plan to see a cardiologist sometime in May or June based on recent experience--Which means that my urgent appointment will be 7 or so months after the ER visit. Absolutely shameful! I am embarrassed to say I am a broker of health insurance products and have lost confidence in making recommendations for their network of services. I am confident that insurance companies are a lot less of the problem in healthcare system and this Medical groups and hospitals need to be held to a greater degree of accountability and cost management. read more

In October, my brother's urologist, trying to diagnose a urinary problem, gave a referral to Sutter Urology in Santa Rosa for a Urodynamics test. The test requires some prep on my brothers behalf (self enema). He is disabled and has cognitive problems. Today, five hours before the test, Sutter called and cancelled. This is their third cancelation (Nov, Dec, and now Jan)! Each time they claimed unexpected staffing problems. I have never experienced an office as poorly managed as Sutter Urology. Time to focus attention on this and get it fixed. read more

Sutter review 5/21/25: They do not accept new Medicare patients for their physicians!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Tried to schedule with a primary care doctor as a new patient and was told Sutter Health does not accept new Medicare patients in their physician practices.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I also recently read an article suggesting they may be charging up to 20-30% more than competitors in some areas of practice. Looking this up on the internet indicates their "all or nothing contracting" practices contribute to them being more expensive. I know Medicare pays pretty low rates. In the past Doctors considered, though Medicare paid low, commercial insurances paid higher and in the end salaries balanced out pretty good. Indeed says California Internal medicine Doctors in 2025 make around $265,676 per year and Family Medicine makes $242,000. To my knowledge those figures did not exclude treating Medicare patients and seem pretty good to me as a senior now (opinion again). Sutter, my opinion is if you do not like Medicare reimbursement don't be greedy and not committed to the people of the area and refusing to care for many of the most needy in the area by rejecting Medicare new patients. Instead support legislation and the proper representatives in Washington to increase Medicare reimbursement! This is a better path than abandoning Medicare patients Or dissolving Medicare all together as some would like to do. read more

I was a patient at Sutter for over 20 years and was very happy with the care I received. That is, until the doctors/NP's stated dropping like flies. I'm not sure if they relocated, quit, what the story was. [[HIGHLIGHT]]After being with them for that long I was scrambling to find a new doctor and being told they aren't accepting new patients.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was bounced around from doctor to doctor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was then able to schedule an appt with Tabitha Doniach, MD. The first visit was ok.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The second visit I left the clinic in tears. She was so condescending. Yawned throughout the entire visit. Told me what she was NOT going to do without hearing all the information.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Do not recommend her at all. For the most part, I've had good experiences with most itf the practitioners. It's just unfortunate they don't seem to stick around long. read more

Always fast prompt advice and attentive doctors and assistants. I've been going here over 5 years and it's always the same.

I have had excellent care from Emily Baker, NP. I've been seen on time and haven't had to wait. I've been referred to other locations and have had good experiences. I really like the online app. I can send messages, see test results, make appointments, and look at my medical records. read more

My appointment was at 10:00am. It's now 10:33. They ask you to arrive at 9:45. I got here at 9:50. Now I get some visits take a little longer but it's like this every time. Get it together and try and at least stay close to the appointment time. My time waisted sitting here is just as important as your time. I walked out at 10:45 without seeing my doctor. read more

Since moving back from Alaska in 2008 I have been seen by one Nurse Pracitioner and I will continue to request her. I deeply respect Susan Shea N.P. When She urged me to go to the ER because of stomach pain- I've had on going ovarian cyst and this was much worse pain. She called me on a SATURDAY to check in on me. That blew me away that she cared to make sure I had been given something to help with the pain and to let me know she put in the referral to see a specialist as she had seen the results of the labs and scans they did. She also knows that when I say I have strep throat - I really have it. She has always made me feel better leaving the office. I made sure when changing insurance that her office would still be accepting it. It will be hard to find another medical professional who gives the same service as Shea. She has raised my expectations of good medical service. read more

I have been seeing a Nurse Practitioner for several years here because my doctor is too busy for appointments. That was ok but now my friendly, seemingly empathic NP has become overworked and burned out so such I don't go in anymore. Stony point is full of rules that don't consider human beings but only the bottom line and job security. I give up. read more

I strongly recommend Sutter Health beginning with my primary physician, Dr. Rene Armstrong. She is caring and every helpful. Then I have other health issues and see Sutter Heath specialist in Santa Rosa. They all are very knowledgable. Therefore Sutter Health is the place to visit. read more

I called to schedule my yearly physical- I couldn't get in for 2 months. When I get the bill my insurance didn't cover anything because it was coded as an office visit. Dr. won't change code and insurance won't pay. $350 for a low complexity office visit. read more

Like Laura below, I was fraudulently overcharged. I had two vitamin B-12 injections at an outpatient clinic per my doctor's orders, but Sutter coded them as "Inpatient hospital-administered IV therapy." I was NOT at a hospital, and the shots were not an IVs. The same injection could be had for $15 (sans insurance) at a local pharmacy, but Sutter billed my insurance a whopping $356 for each shot, and my co-pay was $88.43 each. I was told by my insurance to ask the doctor to change the coding, but I can't even reach my doctor when I call, and her minions intercept my emails to her. My insurance company has opened a fraud investigation. They are not a healthcare company, but a scam enterprise. read more

The time waiting calling Sutter Medical offices at Stony Circle has increased drastically to a minimum of 45 min - 1-1/2 hours. This has been going on for 6 months. Then their automatic voice comes on stated we can not assist you at this time and stated I would be transferred to the answering service ...... it cut the call off and dropped the call!! After being on the phone for 40 minutes. Your system is out of date or broken!! When I first joined Sutter Medical Group it was not like this. Something is happening in the customer service where calls are not being answered! Very poor service. read more

I can not begin to tell you how horrible Sutter Health is. It is no wonder they are paying $90 million in a medical fraud suit. This is the worst hospital and care provider ever. This is now the second time we have come to an appointment to have a mass imaged and to be turned away. The first time, because they completely screwed up the doctors orders and was going to scan the thyroid. So we rescheduled and made sure they understood the order. We live 40 minutes away. After arriving we are told the technician is sick and the appointment is cancelled - why the F#CK didn't anyone call. They claimed they texted but that is BS because we showed them phone - no texts. Plus, we looked at their crappy app to make sure and it show the appointment. What is so deplorable about this is that there are no other options other than Kaiser. We moved here from San Francisco two years ago and I miss UCSF health care. For all their problems, they are nothing compared to how bad Sutter is. read more

Dealing with SUTTER has been the worst. Impossible to make an appointment with an actual doctor. People making appointments often give out wrong information. I called to get a booster shot and was given incorrect information over the phone and wound up waiting through a health clinic line to get it. Got really ill and needed a Covid test and they told me I had to wait a few days to see the first available appointment with a doctor available to evaluate if I should get a test. I'm sick with all the symptoms, isn't that enough reason to get tested? Why compromise more people's health and just have a test mailed or schedule a drive up test? Again, I ended up standing in a health clinic line to get tested. At this point, I don't see the need for my top tier insurance and dealing with SUTTER. Initially I had them out of convenience but any provider but them has been helpful in last few years. They continuously give me wrong info over phone, I can never get an appointment with my actual doctor, and I am left with unfulfilled expectations and wanting more from my healthcare. I am floored that 2 years into pandemic they are so behind and staff is unorganized or helpful (other than directing me to local clinics). read more

I had a appointment today and was 10 mn late. Receptionist told me they have to reschedule. Informed her that I have sever back/kidney pain and needed to see the doctor. I am quite disappointed in the services offered here as far as time management. One day I was 2 minutes past my check in time and I was told I could not be seen, having me reschedule. Today I walked in 15 minutes before my check in time and the receptionist lets me know that they are running about 30 minutes late today and to come back. It makes it hard to respect an institution such as this hospital when they are this unprofessional. read more

They can't even get the billing part right as they made me call the insurance company only to find out they are the ones who didn't provide the right information on the claim and then my doctor was like 21 years old knows less about the human body than most 10 year olds, ridiculous do not go here even if your life depends on it . read more

I have nothing but great things to say about this practice! They are always personable, from the receptionists, to the medical assistants, the nurse practitioners, and the doctors. I get the feeling they all really like their jobs. The quality of the care has always been really good, and the doctors seem to listen and care. I'm so glad I found them! read more

I have been a patient of Sutter Health for about 10 years now and have been very happy with the care and professionalism of the office and staff. I had an appointment today at 3:20pm. I showed up at 3:15pm and had zero wait time. I was shown into the room right away and had my vitals taken. A moment later my care provider Susan Shea. N.P arrived. I have never in my life had a care provider as warm and caring as Susan Shea. She is the epitome of what someone in the medical field should be like. She is professional, highly qualified and knowledgeable......and at the same time one of the most personable and caring people I have ever came across in the medical field. With Sue you are not a number, you are a person. I have had care providers in the past in other practices who rush you in and out like an assembly line. Sue takes her time, answers your questions, and provides quality care. She is the best there is in her profession. Only 5 stars allowed on this site, but I would easily give her 10 stars.
