Seven years I've been paying the monthly service fee to be a member. For that same seven years I often out loud wondered why they're spending coop money authoring, editing and mail out the "Currents" newsletter now moreso than ever. ​ Tomorrow at 0835 hrs will be precisely six days going on seven since my power went off. Except on Sunday morning at 0245 hrs SVEC left a computer generated voicemail stating my power had been restored. It had not now two days beyond that call that caused me to drive back to a home WITHOUT POWER still no power. Something here has to change. I am of the opinion that they're too concerned about giving their members the yearly dividend check from their cost cutting and other savings had on the backs of the newer members that we'd all be far better served with FPL (Florida Power and Light) {bills are lower for a fact, after all SVEC buy's from larger electric generator's and resells to us} or even DUKE. My power lines are intact and those that serve my residence are underground so WHY I am on hold while giving up easements that seven years ago I tried to explain to an SVEC supervisor would be far more secure and cost effective run to the several meters from River Road or alternatively that road whereby those properties front on/to. I was wrong than. AND NOW I'M PAYING THE PRICE FOR THE COMPLETE MULTITUDE OF INCOMPETENCE I'VE ENCOUNTERED HERE My choices are simple and stark, (1) sell which is viable with a 4 bdrm 2 bthrm & office/nursery & interior laundry [a HOUSE] on 5 acs with a corner lot bought as a foreclosure in 2016, or (2) install a full home Generator with an extremely large remote LPG tank and automatic switching station. But heck they' seem to be more worried about the half a million dead chickens and what burger joint might open up the next heart attack haven off I10. I'm thinking #2 is the most viable and prudent option because all Real Property valuations here in this land where "we don't get storms like that here" [heard time and again and again from builders and those in State and Local Administrative positions here with families having large tracts of land and driving jelopie(s) claiming poverty while having paid literally a couple hundred (if that) dollars an acre] has taken a sever hit because reality is "Storms like that do happen wherever and whenever they wish" but in inability to recover in a timely manner may be said to be uniquely Suwannee! So the whole home generation will " compensate" for the static ineptness also uniquely Suwannee. Them aren't Live Oaks no more. read more

horrible they charge way more than most co-ops in area by tri county they are almost 160 more than tri county and the service is worthless .because of surges you are always replacing some appliance .how about 700.00 bill and you live alone read more

Our service is forever going out and when it does, the app always says it was "predicted". The slightest wind and/or rain takes it out for literal hours at a time, sometimes the entirety of the day. Can they not maintenance any of lines? It quite literally is robbery every month when the bills arrives. With all of these ridiculous increases there has got to be a solution, right? I have gratitude to the lineman, reps answering the phone and engineers, not bashing them - this is bigger than them. I REALLY wish an investigation would occur at this point. read more

Beyond frustrating. I am so tired of "blinking." A term that they shared with me for the constant and excessive quick off and on of the power. It is worthless to have any appliance worth anything in Suwanee County because they do not care at all to properly make sure that trees are not touching the lines. I've called for weeks over and over resulting in questions like "are your neighbors experiencing the same thing." Guess what! I pay YOU for service. Not them. YOU ask them. The guys that respond are pleasant, but I can tell that they are annoyed. If there isn't better technology than looking at trees from afar then why is the cost so high? That was the last offer when I called last week. After insisting on checking power to my house which clearly is NOT the issue...again! The offer was to come out and walk the line with me. Seriously. Well, it has now led to 170+ people out of power on a fine Sunday evening. Once again could have been avoided. Also none of the online counts are accurate. This company will take a month to cut your service on after you receive a certificate of occupancy for your new construction home. A month! Expensive as all get out, literally never answers the phone, just doesn't care. If you can choose not to move somewhere serviced by this company, please do so, for your own sake. read more

I never had a co op that I liked, they are outrageously priced, this co op charges 99 cents a DAY for service where as FPL is 8 bucks A MONTH, and duke is 11 bucks A MONTH, and their kilowatt rate is thru the roof also, I would never ever move to any place that has a co op, I don't care what co op name they have, plus membership fees, deposits, credit checks, etc., its all a huge rip off! Just say NO to co ops! Get rid of them all! Im choosing Duke over this co op for my new home, wish I could get FPL, and I might if they continue to try to buy out Duke. We have been living here since August 1994. In that time I have NEVER seen such bad electric service. It has burned out four refrigerators (the first one in only three months) and the lights and all go out at the most random and inopportune times. I lived on Long Island during the '50s and '60s when LILCO was developing and, with few exceptions, the electric power was WONDERFUL! SVEC is a charade, and the most overpriced electricity I can imagine. I just got a little "flick" as I was typing this so I imagine the power will be going off several more times today. I rely on oxygen and a breathing machine and so believe me I really need electricity, and can't afford to put in a generator. This is the WORST electric company I have dealt with in over 74 years. Oh, how much I miss LILCO and ConEd, two of the finest companies going! I am adding this 5 minutes later ... yes, the power went off right after I posted this review. I would like some of whatever the 5-star rater is taking ... it must be a powerful drug to enable her to rate the 5 stars! Maybe I wouldn't feel so cold if I could just pop one of whatever drugs she is on. I might even feel warmer, because we heat with electric and thus lose THAT when the power goes off! All in all, SVEC is the worst utility I have ever had in my 74 years of living all over the US. When I tried to complain to the Public Service Commission I discovered I couldn't, because it is a privately-held electric co-op (read garbage). I only hope I live long enough to finally see a good electric company here in Suwannee County! read more

This electric company charges a member fee but we have no other options when it comes to electric companies. Every time we are a few months away from making our payments on time and getting our deposit back our electric bill almost doubles. The last time we updated our central heat and air system, and we've even put a metal roof on our house and puchased energy efficient appliances such as our washer, dryer and stove. The only thing that is on all day is a laptop and 1 light over the kitchen sink. We also purchased a new thermostat and 2 months ago our bill was approximately $250. Last month it was about $385 and this months bill is $427. This company is crooked!!! My security deposit will be paying for a generator!! read more

Our electric goes off several times a week for no reason. You can't talk to a person when you have a problem on the phone.

Kudos to SVEC and their partners from all over the country. While they worked endless hours to restore power after such a devastating blow to the state of FL by Irma, many folks waited patiently while others complained. I feel they have done an outstanding job getting their membership back online and keeping members informed of their efforts. Job well done SVEC. Suwannee Valley Electric Coop is supposedly member owned but it is not. We have no voice or say in what happens to our meters and how we are being billed. According to state review of requests for smart meters, it was done so that various charges could be billed according to the day and time of day of energy consumption. However, I have only one charge on my bill. Also, the Smarthub which has to be signed up for to handle account information and billing. The daily consumption which I am being charged is not the same as to which I am being charged daily. Also, when going on vacation, my bill spikes when there is no one on the property. According to Alisha at SVEC, readings may be estimated when an accurate reading can't be taken. Why should this ever occur when my readings are transmitted every hour all day long. Can't understand why readings for bills are not taken until 03:00 or 04:00 in the morning instead of when they had told me they would be at midnight. This company is a monopoly in this area and it should be disbanded and customers given choices for their power needs. I would definitely choose a different, better managed company over this swindling SVEC company. I'd also fire the employees since I am a member and I would choose not to have them in my employ and lie to customers using the monies they have been paid from proceeds of ripping off "members" and their families and then trying to justify it. Travita told me that she had tried to call me twice on a Friday to schedule a service call and when I told her I didn't have any record of it on my Verizon phone, she said it didn't matter and her boss, Ms. Price, said the same thing. Having integrity to deal with the public is extremely important to me and should be to all those who deal with customers and provide a public service. Defending liars just made me want to go to a different utility even more important than it was prior to my phone conversation with Ms. Price. The FSC needs to step in and deal with this company and protect the wallets and lives of the residents of FL who are falling victims to this company. read more
