Prior to today, I've had good experiences at Star Tech. They always have what I need and are very helpful and knowledgeable, and the prices are fair. So when I brought in 3 video tapes to transfer to digital, I expected the same level of excellence. When I dropped the videos off and asked for a quote, I am absolutely certain the guy told me $20 each. No doubt in my mind whatsoever. But when I picked them up today, the bill was just over $100. This guy insisted that he never told me $20, that's the price for 5 or more videos. He said it's $25 each plus $20 for the flash drive. He absolutely did not tell me about the extra $20 for the flash drive, either. (And how would I know there was even a $20 option if I hadn't heard it from him in the first place?) In the end he dropped the $20 for the flash drive, but I was still stuck paying a lot more than the $60 I expected. He bragged about how this Is still cheaper than some other options. But it's more than I was quoted and I'm feeling ripped off. I have a lot more videos to transfer to digital, but Star Tech will not be the ones to do it. Or anything else I need. If you need videos transferred to digital, check out capture.com where they'll do SD for $20 each plus $15 for the flash drive. Or go to imemories.com for $14.99 each and no charge for the digital drive. Just don't take them to Star Tech. If you do, be sure to get a signed, written estimate. read more

Went in looking for a new computer. I paid top dollar and was shocked when I found them pull it off the shelf and put it in a bag. No boxes, no manuals, nothing. While I was speaking the one of the employees, another came up behind us and started talking over him. Rather rude. POOR POOR service, expectations and quality. I will not go back even for warranty or other computer needs. read more

Look, I really do not understand these negative ratings. I will admit, it is rare that I ever actually seek out a way to give feedback to any company; however, I felt it necessary in this case. My wife and I have utilized Star Tech for virtually every computer need we have had for many years. While the customer service has always been top-notch, I just have to remark on my recent custom-built towers. These are both outstanding gaming and productivity units just as I was promised. Because I didn't understand that the computers would not have built-in WiFi, I was comped a USB adapter for both computers. I took my laptop to this business, as I couldn't get on line. Patrick tried some things that didn't change the issue, so he recommended that I leave it, so that he could check it out. He called later that day and said it was the hard drive and he felt that the laptop was worth saving. I followed his recommendation and had him fix it. All of this took three days and we were treated very well! All questions were patiently answered and the laptop works better than new! Thanks Patrick! read more

So I needed a laptop for college and went there and traded in a 1000 gaming computer and another desktop and three monitors and the owner gave me a piece of junk laptop that barely plays youtube. I first touched base with Star Tech approximately 5 years ago, having baoght a computer from them. Unfortunately, fromthe outset I was sorry that I had. For the most part, the employees appear to be conscintious and basically fair. The problem is the owner. I do not know his name: Stands about 5'5", glassesone hand in shirt... (Sorry: Joke.. But it's a fair assessment of him". But with that said, there is simply something teribly wrong with this young man. From the very outset, and for no reasson that I am aware, he has consistently been rude, obstinate, uncooperative, and leaving me (certainly correct) if I walk into the store it's a bad day for him. My confusion: To the best of my knowledge, I have never been anything other than nice and appropriate with him. (We even had a semi-discussion one day which, in some awkward fashion, he admitted that he had social issues, and that it might be better for him to spend more time away from the store... That one never happened). End of story: I called yesterday with a question re: my computer (which I bought custom assembled by his company). I was having problems with it, and attempted to ask him a questio. He gave a 15 second answer and stated that he was busy. IBeing aware of his nature, I let it go. Unfortunately, later in the day , I had a follow up question and called back. I explained that I was aware that he was busy, but that it would help if I could get a minute from him. To this,the 'Lil lion roars: One inute! You have one minute!". And (Not being one to take a person of his caliber's stupid abuse" I once again (appropriately) confronted him. His respons? "I'm telling you: Never call this store again. Never". I, for one, will never to ANY business with this small man lost in tall grass again, and if anyone does...... You have been fairly warned. There is something very, very wrong with this fellow, and I (personally) would likelike to be as far away as possible when his collapsing walls hit the ground...
