Don't let the neighbourhood or the decor fool you, Swagat are turning out some amazing Indian food. A friend and I were craving curry, and he made the suggestion that we meet up here. He has been before and raved about the food. A nice unassuming family restaurant in the old Albert's Pancake House location right on the traffic circle at 118 ave and 101 st, accessing can be awkward, but as I frequent The Barbecue House in the same strip, I know a few tricks. The restaurant was dimly lit, and the tables are mostly booths around the outside wall. The curtains and the colours are new, but Albert's is still stamped all over this restaurant. The menu is varied, with lots of dishes I have only seen rarely. We ended up going for a selection of smaller plates and appetizers, all vegetarian, as that his how my friend rolls. We ordered: Vegetarian Momo's (a type of Nepali dumpling) Paneer Pakoras Samosas Cauliflower 65 All of the dishes were generous in portion and in flavour. The Momos were something I had not tried before, but will definitely order again, as there are several types. The Paneer Pakora was not my favourite iteration of this dish, but we did not leave any behind. The Samosas were the biggest I have ever seen, and were chock full of good things. An order of these would be a meal for one. The Cauliflower 65 was amazing, full of flavour and spice. I have had "65" chicken in a few places, and the sauce is so rich and delicious, whatever you put it on is a minor detail. The service was very good, and the restaurant was not crowded. From the lineup of Skip drivers I can only assume they do most of their business to go. (other reviews here would back that up.) I will certainly be back to unleash my inner carnivore on other parts of the menu. I am a little excited to try the Goat Biriyani... Food: 5 Restuarant: 3 ( a tad dingy, but clean) Service: 4.5 (Busy, but we never felt neglected.) If you are in the North End, craving Indian, I highly recommend Swagat. Nice people turning out truly excellent food. Eat here.

So we decided to do some take out from a small business and we were so glad we randomly pcked this place. We picked a variety of food. One kathmandu chicken momo, 1 shrimp haaka noodles, 1 butter chicken, 1 palak paneer, 1 allo gobhi, and 1 veggie momo. All was good, but two stood out - the butter chicken and the chicken momos. Probably the best butter chicken I have had in Edmonton. Spice mixture was amazing. Chicken momos were moist and flavourful and loved the dipping sauce they came in, Everything else was good and by the end of the next day we had no leftovers. Kids loved the haaka noodles. I loved that I could customize each dish frrom spicy or not. I will be eating here again.

This review is based on food alone, we did not dine in. I would honestly give it a 4.5, boyfriend gives it a 4. It was a SURPRISINGLY delicious Indian restaurant in a surprisingly shady area. Definitely a hidden gem. Indian takeout is one of our favourites, and this is probably top of our list now! The one downfall was that we asked for "EXTRA EXTRA SPICY PLEASE!!!" in the order comments and it was, as the brown boyfriend says, "white people spicy". I thought it was a decent level of heat for me. We had the lamb curry... the meat was sooo tender and not too fatty. Boyfriend said melt in your mouth.... It was spiced so well and just overall a high quality meat. Sometimes lamb from Indian places seems like cheap cuts of meat and fatty... Not here. Very very good. Boyfriend would have preferred it to be cut into bite sized chunks instead of such huge pieces, but that's not a huge deal. The saag chicken was awesome. Super delish. The meat, again, high quality and large chunks of chicken. Not skimpy at all. And lastly, the daal makhni. Daal makhni is my go-to ALWAYS order from EVERY Indian place dish. And I have to say this was the best daal makhni in Edmonton. It was sooooo goooooooood. I am so stoked to have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Portion sizes were ok for the price, but quality was definitely good. I can definitely say we will order from here again, and will choose it before we choose our previous go-to.... even though it's a little further of a drive! I hope they'll believe us next time we say EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA SPICY.

Best Momo in the city! Ok so I've only tried one other place... but this place is a hundred times better. The hockey game (memorial semi final with Hamilton and Sha) was playing while I sat and waited for my order. Staff are polite and give you an estimated wait time. My mouth waters in anticipation as I wait. Every time I drive by, I try to get in--which is not that often-- (wrong side of town to be convenient).

So despite the fact it was one of the coldest days of the year, we bundled up hoping for Nepalese warmth. What did we get? Nothing. We were the only ones there. No music. No dancing. No lights. No decorations. Nothing I feel wrong leaving. So we sat down and as the server brought us our menus, I brought out the Facebook add and said, "Is this happening?" All he said was, "yes we make, we make." And left. We ordered noodles for our kid. Two Thali platters and a momo sampler platter. Here was another issue my kids noodles came in 10 minutes and ours in 30. I am not sure why, we were the only ones there. Food was excellent, as usual. When we were almost done, another couple came in and said, "I thought there was something going on?" Yep me too.

The inside is small with 5 tables. Menu is a one pager; start & share, favourites, momo, mains, Nepali sets and desserts. - 2x Nepali spiced chiya ($2.50) - came out piping hot. Very enjoyable. - Momo sampler ($19.99) - opted for the pork. My favourite were the steamed momos. The Nepalese momo sauce paired nicely. - Aloo bodi tama ($12.99) - strange that you don't get a bowl of rice. Very mild curry. - Khaja ($18.99) - chickpeas were the best part of the dish. Okay but nothing particularly memorable. Decent Nepalese eats at TE.

It was the best Indian food we've ever had, and the service was second to none. The people here are polite, friendly, and attentive, always making sure you're enjoying your food and checking if you need anything. Good ambiance overall, very reasonable prices, and incredibly generous portions. We ended up going back a couple days later just to get some more before we left the country. Highly recommend to all night owls and people looking for great indian food and amazing service.

I ended up getting their butter chicken and lamb vindaloo, both at medium spice level, and extra naan. Overall, the dishes weren't really spicy. The butter chicken was quite sweet. This sweetness makes it different from other butter chicken I've had in the city so it's worth trying. The quality and portion was also quite nice. As for the lamb, there was an okay amount of lamb. However, I would've expected it to be a lot more spicy as it felt more like braised lamb than vindaloo. The extra naan was also a good balance to how much food was provided. The overall price for everything makes this quite a value stop so I'd give them 8.3/10
