My experience at Swagat was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING. We ordered the Roghan Josh, Palak Paneer (cottage cheese with spinach), Egg Biryani, and Buttered Naan. We were surprised that the Roghan Josh only had three small pieces of mutton, not enough for even one person! The sauce was seasoned well but its consistency was too fluid/watery. The rest were just okay. The menu prices are cheap but that's because portions are very small. Waiting time is quite long especially if the resto is full. We were planning on ordering dessert but they informed us that they have none available. According to the server, we can just buy a Magnum at Ministop (she said this with an amused look on her face and even told her companion what she just said to us, then they LAUGHED about it. We just ignored them and shrugged it off). Although there were signs all over the resto that outside food is not allowed, we thought they made a consideration for us due to the unavailability of all their desserts. After our meal, we bought a Magnum and went inside the restaurant since we were not yet finished with our meal. We were then RUDELY asked to leave. When confronted about their rude behavior, the server said to us up front, "Wala kaming customer service!". Well, that certainly explains their horrible behavior. When that was settled and after a few more minutes of eating, we found that we were the only ones remaining in the restaurant. The owner then decided to close down thirty minutes before the official closing time (?!?!) even if we still hadn't shown any intention that we were leaving. This little Indian place right next to me have been getting a lot of good reviews, so I was really eager to check it out! While dining here I was pretty much the only person in there with 6 waiters, which was kind of an fun experience, but also a little intense. In regards to the food, I tried 2 dishes both recommended by the staff as they specialty, and added a mango lassie and some Garlic naan. Overall, the food was really authentic, delicious, and simple. Probably, not a place I would come to food a date, but definitely a place I would stop by to pickup! read more

Why didn't I remember how bad the food is at Swagat?! This is not Indian food...more like Indian-influenced rice meals. The tikka masala was mostly sugar with really cheap chili just to make it spicy...leaving an overall nasty, rank flavour. The tamarind sauce was mostly vinegar and hardly any tamarind. To add insult to injury, portions are ridiculously small, as many have complained about here. On the positive, the Samosas were quite good (which they most surely buy elsewhere). Bottom line is however desperate you may be for Indian food, Swagat will most surely NOT satiate that craving. Look elsewhere! read more

Since I frequent the Legazpi village area, Swagat is one of my favorite restaurants to go to for Indian cuisine. It's located unobtrusively beside the MiniStop on Rada Street. The interior is full of Indian décor and there's also a TV that plays Indian MTVs nonstop, a surprisingly hypnotic form of entertainment. My favorites on the menu are the vegetarian samosas, biryanis, and their chicken tikka and mushroom masalas. They have some dishes that are only available during the afternoon. Their yogurt drinks are also excellent and help water down the spices and flavors of the food. If you're ordering something very spicy, you're probably going to down at least 3 of their yogurt drinks/lassis. And when this restaurant says "spicy", they mean it! Price range is about P200 - 300 per dish, good for 2 or one very hungry person. Swagat also welcomes orders for take out. Reservations aren't needed but the place does tend to fill up during dinner. The service might be a bit slow, because they don't have too many hands in the kitchen. They'll do their best to accommodate you though; I once went with a group of 12 friends and because we couldn't fit in the restaurant, they put a table for us outside! :) read more

Swagat Indian Cuisine is my favorite Indian restaurant in the Legazpi Village vicinity. It's quite a small restaurant and very cozy. I especially love going there during workdays to get away from the stress of the office, and let my taste buds have an awesome time with Swagat's delicious Indian food! A tip though would be to arrive at this restaurant early because it gets quite full during peak hours. All their dishes are very tasty, and addicting! I love the mushroom masala, their vegetarian samosas, their chicken curry (this is a MUST), and their shrimp curry. I haven't tried much of anything else because these dishes are so good I keep repeating the same orders over and over again! Oh man, I've always passed this by but I've only had the chance to eat there tonight. And I'm so glad that we did! My co workers and I were looking for places to eat that were still open past 10-- and then I remembered Swagat closes late! Swagat, is apparently the Hindi word for welcome. So it's just as fitting that their icon is a woman bowing in welcome. (Hehe, the more you know!) We were a bit hungry so we ordered a lot of stuff: samosas, papadum, roti, vegetable biryani, lamb biryani, paneer, malai kofta and chicken tikka masala. God. It's just. So. Good. If you're used to the "watered down" Indian food you get in buffets, I urge you to reconsider the spice levels of your stuff. But if you're willing to roll with the punches, go for it! I swear, you'll never regret eating here. (What I do regret is not ordering lassi... For next time!) Remember, if you're going to use your hands to eat, only use your right. (In their culture, the left hand is used for sanitary purposes... So you might garner some strange stares.) So good, I'm still reeling from it. The ambiance of this place is so distinctly Indian you won't mistake it for anything else. I love just looking at the colorful decor and watching the endless run of Bollywood films or their version of MTV. The food is amazing, I sometimes feel like ditching the spoon and fork and just eating everything with my hands to fully enjoy the experience. Of course, I get a kick from reality and realize I'm in Makati and having lunch with the boss so eating with my hands is out of the question. When I eat here, half the time I'm unfamiliar with what's on the menu so I just take a wild guess and point at the one that sounds good. Without fail, I enjoy my meal even if I have no idea what it is. Popular choices include the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Murgh Tandoori. Don't miss out on their bread! I love the buttered roti and naan. No visit to Swagat would be complete without the vegetable samosa. I actually order several of these for take out after my meal because they're so good. read more

I love Indian food. It's my favorite cuisine, and I am always on the lookout for great Indian food in the metro. It is not difficult to find them ,but it's always hard chancing upon really good ones. So far, Swagat is one of the good, authentic ones, but I wouldn't say that their food is my favorite. If it weren't for the fact that I enjoy the Bollywood/filmi tracks that they play and the item number clips that they show on their screen, I wouldn't even come back. I used to eat out here a lot when I still worked in an office along Rada. It has that quiet, neighborhood-diner kind of feel. Swagat means "welcome" in Hindi, and they welcome you in with great cheer. The owner auntie is always very hands on, and she is willing to assist if you are struggling with what to order. Most of my Indian friends appreciate that they have Northern/Kashmiri food. The menu is extensive and reads like a novel - they should really pare that down and minimalize it. The rogan jhosh is signature Kashmiri, and here they do a really tender lamb (which is rather tame for my taste). When I turned vegetarian, the palak paneer became a favorite. Swagat does a really good one. I like their breads. They are always nicely done and slightly chewy, not rubber or tough. Overall, I give this a 4/5 because their menu represents most of Indian cookery in terms of diversity (which I said could also be a drawback, since they have A LOT on their menu to confuse you even more, as if Indian food is not already baffling as it is), but I wouldn't consider this as my go-to Indian joint. read more

Don't be deceived by the look of restaurants. Sometimes the simplest looking ones are the ones that serve the best food. You will feel like this when you enter Swagat. The look and feel of the place is like of a simple Indian house. The walls are have posters of Indian gods. Seating area is very simple, nothing fancy. There is no artistic plating here. What you see is what you get. You go to Swagat because you want to eat authentic Indian food. The Pappadom Fry (deep fried lentils) and Bhel Puri (puffed rice with various chutney) are quite appetizer hits. Order Roti (even just the plain one), Sangam Biryani (rice) and a whole lot of ROGHAN JOSH. Skip the chicken dishes, just really go straight to the best goat dish which is ROGHAN JOSH. Fact: the owner / chef of the restaurant is vegetarian. The fact that she cooks a lot of curry impresses me so much! She only cooks by smelling it. She never tastes. Pretty amazing right? read more

I called twice and spoke to someone to confirm what time was last call and was told 10:30. I called twice on the way to the restaurant to put in my order for dine in but nobody picked up. Craving a Dosa Masala I drove 15 minutes to arrive before last call. When I arrived before 10:30 they said they would not serve me and pointed to their clock which was exactly 10 minutes fast. Also actual closing time was 11pm. It was quite the frustrating experience and not good service. read more

Was a fan of this establishment but the poor service finally put me off. There is a caveat that it will take 15-20 mins to prepare your food. On a busy day this will be more than an hour. Staff are also not attentive in providing and refilling water while you slowly die while waiting for your food. read more
