And then I noticed the jewelry, because the last time I visited I was looking for mystery jewelry jars and today I was happy to see five or six baggies absolutely full of costume jewelry that appeared wearable along with beads and watch parts and just everything I could use for crafting and repurposing with jewelry. So, I purchased two jewelry bags and the contents did not disappoint me when I opened them at home. So, it was another productive and great day shopping at Sozo Trading Co. In addition, there is always plenty of free parking and if you have the time there are a couple of restaurants nearby.

At their 10 year celebration, it was such a fun environment! They had raffles , special pricing and even had a coffee truck on site. I really enjoyed coming here to celebrate with them! If you go and don't find what you're looking for, stop back another day. If you see something you want, get it then because someone else will beat you to it! Prices have gone up over the years but you're still saving money from what the item originally cost. Lovelady Center, located not far from the store, helps women get back on their feet after going through tough times. They turn your donations into profit that helps them support their residents. In fact, most, if not all, the ladies that work here, are connected to Lovelady in some way. They are either current residents or have been helped in the past. You should really look up their story. If you like to shop, especially in thrift stores, you must check them out!

Let's begin with product availability. The menswear section is great for those of us that can turn menswear pieces into fashionable pieces for women. Then move around to women's pieces. We have high end to low end pieces at reasonable prices. Purses and handbag heaven. The next time you're putting that special outfit together, come to D'Trespa Consignment to get that statement bag to take the outfit over the top. There's just som many gems being housed here. You have to come in and take a look. The shop owner shared a few things; Bring your items in and if sold, you can receive cash or if not sold the will donate to a charitable organization on your behalf and you receive the charity receipt for tax purposes. She also informed us that the first Saturdays of every month until October, the street will be shut down for an open market. Come by during those times and you could possibly win a prize. Can't wait to come back. Great shop to find those designer pieces you've been wanting.

For men, there is a bit of that Birmingham preppy (Brooks Brothers, Polo, Vintage Vines) and some downright vintage. I bought a 1970's JC Penney LS shirt and some other men's items. There is not a huge men's selection, but for women, there's a lot more - purses, dresses, iconic looks and "create your own style." She's even got a "little black dress" room and was updating to add a bunch more dresses. What I like best is that the selection is unique. This is a boutique, not so much just T's and jeans, but items to look your best or find your own fashion way. For my lady I bought a Michael Kors and a Ralph Lauren handbag - but I left some for you dear reader. So, go check it out!

They have gently worn women's clothes organized by size. They also had a small housewares section and records. We hit gold with Elvis Live from Hawaii. The prices are a bit higher than other thrift stores, but profits go towards the Assistance League of Birmingham's Operation School Bell and literacy programs. Also the ladies running the store we're so happy and friendly, which is not always the case at a thrift store. I would have to say this place is a real gem.

First, I love the fact that the proceeds are used for the Jefferson County Literacy Program. The front half of the store is filled with unique and high quality crafted items made by those that are 50+. They even take special orders on items. The back half of the store is an upscale thrift store that consists of name brand clothing, shoes, purses and jewelry. They often place the clothing items half off to make room for more donations. You can find everything from casual shorts and tops to suits and evening gowns for ladies. They do carry baby clothing up to a size 5 or so, shoes, toys, along with items such as strollers, high chairs and playpens. I'll try to summarize all the hidden treasures you can find from time to time with this list: books of all kind (I personally love the children's selection and old cookbooks), albums, dishes like China tea cups and place settings, serving pieces, small appliances, comforters, curtains, furniture, holiday items and various furniture pieces from from time to time. I can't say enough about this place!! They receive so many unique whatnots and unsold items from estate sales as well. The store is well kept and has great prices. Soho Retro is one fabulous shop!…read more Steve, the owner, greeted me with a mimosa and his adorable pup. He instantly became my favorite person I'd met in Birmingham. The furniture, art, and other decorative pieces were gorgeous and priced really well. There were some unique finds that you probably wouldn't look for but would be glad you stumbled upon and lots of classic pieces too. I became obsessed with a couple of items but wanted to measure before making a purchase. Steve happily provided his card in case things worked out. Unfortunately, I returned home to find that my hunch was correct and the pieces wouldn't be a good fit. No worries. I'll for sure keep Soho in mind during the rest of my redecorating!
