I ordered the chai tea latte, bacon twist, and spinach and feta quiche. The chai was delicious, not too spicy and not too sugary. The bacon cheese twist was much sweeter than I was expecting. I was hoping for something very savory, but the brown sugar made it more like a sweet pastry. It would be cool if they had two versions - one salty and one sweet. The quiche was my favorite item, the crust just melts in your mouth, yet it wasn't super heavy. It was a perfect way to start the day that would be just enough to get me through until lunchtime. If I worked in Chevy Chase, I'd be here every day for breakfast and coffee. It's so much better than Starbucks. I haven't checked out their cupcakes or scones, but I'm digging their admittedly limited savories so far (would love to see this part of the menu expanded!). Sadly, we didn't notice the basket of banana bread until too late. The chai latte was as scaldingly hot as they had warned, which force us to nurse our puff and biscuit sandwich. This bakery is a godsend for Friendship Heights, which definitely lacks non-chain eating. The food is great, reasonably priced, and the staff are super friendly. So, I was a little dismayed not to see the vast selection of cupcakes that the old shop used to have on display; and instead, seeing only three cupcakes and a wide array of other baked goods. The owner said he wasn't trying to make the place like a basic cupcakery. In additon to cupcakes, they make scones, coconut macaroons, and brownies/blondies and serve hot Illy coffee and teas. The ambiance inside the cafe is lovely, and outside is a small terrace with large sun umbrellas where you can sip your coffee and have a homemade muffin, apple pie, or bacon-maple twist! All the items are super fresh because they are BAKED IN-HOUSE--which really sets it apart from any other standard Starbucks (who as we all know get their products laden with preservatives shipped from a mass factory somewhere in bumblebum PA !) The reason why I can't dock off a full star is because some of these things are out of their control. In order to stay competitive with other bakeries and coffee shops, you do have to price your muffins and scones at $3.25 each. The only other thing that also can't be helped is the traffic near this location-- while it is perfect in that Sweet Teensy managed to nail the corner retail spot, which is visible from the Bus-terminal exit of Friendship Heights Metro. This is great for foot-traffic, and also offers bench seating outside on the sidewalk; however, it also lends to lots of road noise from Western Ave, and buses that turn into this bus dock. Those were unfortunate disruptions to an otherwise peaceful Sunday cafe bite, but again, can't be helped much. Enjoy! read more

Sweet Teensy is a local bakery. We enjoy the fact that they bake everything on-site each morning. In addition to a nice variety of bakery items, they have delicious breakfasts, and offer illy coffee. The female owner, who is the principal baker, is very friendly and conscious with those of us who have nut allergies. The other owner, an older gentleman, is a space case who consistently over-charges and under-delivers when it comes to customer service. If they would make a proper Americano, with the water in first and shots on top when asked repeatedly (but they don't...) and, if the baked goods were a little less pricey, they might get a better rating and, more business! read more

Sweet Teensy has become my go-to coffee shop - the illy coffee products are made and served to order of course, and especially if you stay in, remind me of Italy. The scones are some of the best I've had this side of the Atlantic. And I've sent several boxes of their brownies as gifts this year to high praise from the recipients. The prices are very reasonable, you don't have to guess at sizes (no Starbucks faux language here!), and the folks behind the counter are friendly. I only have great things to say about this place. First of all, the bakery is absolutely beautiful; it's spotless, well decorated and there's tons of sunlight coming in. But that's nothing compared to how pleasant the staff is; they're always sweet and pay attention to every little detail. I came to study all afternoon in the bakery and the owner was absolutely adorable to me, or anyone coming in for that matter. However, the reason I went there in the first place was because of how good their iced coffee is; it's perfection, smooth and flavorful without being bitter like Starbucks'. I also had a slice of their apple cake which was out of this world amazing, and the cheddar and chives scone which was super soft and tasty. After learning this bakery was nearby my hotel, I had to stop in. Instantly loved the set up of it, and since it's a corner location, had tons of natural light. I got a cappuccino which was good. Of course I had to get a sweet treat too! They had cinnascones- which is something they created, a cinnamon roll scone. I don't know how they did it, but it is a must try. So moist and flavorful, it really tasted like a cinnamon roll but in the form of a scone. Amazed. I've read past reviews about how their banana bread is amazing, so I bought loaf for later. While passing through the neighborhood, I searched Yelp for coffee and got drawn in by the quiche and salad special - perfect! I love trying quiche everywhere, so I went in and asked for that and a packet of granola and a "breakfast power cookie." The guy working there was super nice and had my order out right away. The quiche was fantastic, with a perfectly flaky and buttery crust - mmmm. I also liked that they had five options for quiche; normally a place of this size would only have one, maybe two flavors at most. I never got to try the salad, although the champagne dressing sounded amazing - the greens were turning bad already. I brought them to the guy and pointed out that the greens weren't good, and he made another salad right away. Well, those greens were bad too (maybe because it was Sunday? I suppose they bought the greens on a previous day). Right away, I was offered $10 in cash to make up for it. He wanted me to be happy, and made me promise to return, which I will. I took the cookie and granola home. True to its word, the breakfast cookie powered me through my morning workout the next day; it was filled with oats, peanut butter, almonds, and other goodness. The granola is just sweet enough and features coconut and pecans - some of the best granola I've ever had! I wish I had bought more. I have to admit, I was quite disappointed when I found out Frostings had closed. I did used to enjoy their cupcakes. I also have to admit that I am not particularly impressed with the cupcakes at Sweet Teensy. First, they seem quite small for their price. If the cupcakes were really good, I wouldn't mind spending a little more. However, I do not feel that spending the extra money is justified. The cake part of the cupcake actually tastes pretty good; I just wasn't a fan of the frosting, which to me tasted a little weird. Don't get me wrong, the cupcakes are good, but not great. Another thing that is a little disappointing is the lack of variety in the cupcakes they offer. They have the basic flavors plus a few others and that is it. I wish they would offer a few more unique flavors as most cupcake shops tend to do these days. I would like to say that the staff, specifically the owner, is so friendly and welcoming.
