Ordered cupcakes from Big Ben's Dessert for a small gathering. Picked them up on a Sunday two hour before the event. The Red Velvet and Keylime cupcakes were the star of the show! They were baked fresh that morning! While there I was able to get a personal banana pudding for myself. I didn't eat it until the following Monday and I was blown away! Service was friendly and professional. Many people coming in for ice cream and the shop was clean and a lively atmosphere. I'll go back soon!!! read more

Man dang..that's all I need to say..they do have terrific cakes. The staff is pretty friendly also.. it's a small place located in a strip mall right across the street from Food Lion on Hwy 29..they have a variety of cake slices, cupcakes, ice cream and banana pudding..the strawberry cake is the top seller..it actually has slices of strawberries mixed in the cake which is a nice touch..the key lime cake is great also..the pineapple cake was great too..just a little too much cream cheese icing for my liking..I have to say every slice of cake I have had was super moist..one day I will get a scoop of ice cream with my cake but I just don't want to send my body into sugar overload lol..they have about 10 different flavors of mayfield brand ice cream to choose from.. The reasons for the four stars and not five is first,..and maybe this is just me having bad luck but the last four or five times I have been they have been out of the cake that I wanted..I hope they can improve on this aspect of the business..zoysia frustrating as a consumer when you are excited and ready to eat something you have a hankering for but it's unavailable..might lose repeat customers that way..I have sent quite a few people to this place by bragging on how moist and good the cakes are.. and I know they won't return if they don't have the particular cake I am bragging on.. The second reason for the lack of five stars is the pricing..a whole cake gonna run you around $40 to $45..a slice anywhere from $3.50 to $4..cheesecake slices around $7.. so it gets a little pricey when you get more than a slice or two..the single serve banana pudding is $3.99.. but it's definitely worth a splurge every now and again read more

I have heard wonderful things about Big Bens desserts. HOWEVER I sadly can not formulate my own opinion BECAUSE I came tonight at 8:10 PM, their Facebook page and door say they close at 9:00 PM. There were families inside enjoying their ice cream, and to my surprise the door was LOCKED and the lady inside mouthed through the door "were closed". Wonderful dessert and ice cream shop! The strawberry cake is the best I've ever had. It was moist and delicious with chunks of strawberries in the cake and the perfect icing to cake ratio.
