This store is always a MUST when we are in the area. They have so many different things. Pool/beach items, toys, shoes, clothes, gifts, you name it! We go to Michigan City often and the kids always look forward to our visit to the store. Most memorable item was a Orca blow up for pool/beach which they offered to blow up for us as well lol! I live in Union Pier and regularly shop here. I took my daughter and her friend in this morning and spent $50 on overpriced "squishies" and "putty". Ironically while leaving the store I said to my daughter, "while I could get all of these items for a fraction of the cost on Amazon I don't mind paying more to support a local business." We then got into our car, she opened the squishy and after simply taking it out of the packaging it popped, exploding sand all over my car. After spending an hour vacuuming my car, I went back with the popped/defective item and asked for a simple exchange. (Note the cost of this item was $6.99). The manager refused to exchange it. Instead I was told that because the store has no way to verify the quality of its toys, it passes on the cost of such risk to its consumer. Notably, the store obviously chooses the products it purchases and then marks up for retail. As a regular customer at this store, it's not about the measly 7 bucks. It's the principle and the lack of customer service offered. Apparently the store knows that it operates more as a tourist trap and that the majority of its customers are visitors. In any event, I will not be returning and would highly recommend that all New Buffalo visitors avoid shopping here. read more

After seeing all the boxes of shoes on sale and a rack of t shirts also out side the door, I had to stop on my way back to the hotel. Just a hint of what was inside. They had t shirts, pullovers, hoodies, other clothes in many designs and each design had a large choice of colors. I had to get this design in long sleeves in light moss green - Lake Michigan Always Fresh Sometimes Frozen. Look forward to wearing it this winter. The prices on the clothing was very fair for a tourist town. As for the shoes, boat shoes, sandals, tennis shoes by a name brand and the price showed it. Beach stuff, puzzles, games, and knick knacks galore. So much packed in a small place. Parking is one the street or public lots. I am writing to alert consumers to an unpleasant experience I had while shopping downtown New Buffalo. On an otherwise pleasant day out this past weekend for Art Attack in Harbor Country, I decided to look for a nice gift in one of the stores downtown, Sweetwater. The return policy (I was told) seemed reasonable: if the shoes do not fit, you can return them. When I returned to try to return the shoes, I was told that they were dirty, gross, and they would not return them. I called the Chamber of Commerce who told me this business is not a member and they could not help with the resolution of my problem. Not only am I upset because of how I was treated in trying to get a refund, I am upset to find out that I have no re-course. read more

Bought 3 items totaling $129 night before. Came back next day to purchase two items. A 60 inch tube and a noodle. I walked across the street and tried to put the 60 inch in my Ford Explorer sport which is an over sized SUV . The tube wouldn't fit so I walked right back in the store and tried to return it. It was the difference of seven dollars to get a smaller one and they would not refund my money. I got my receipt out of my purse to figure out what the difference was and realized it on the noodle I have been charged three dollars too much. It was $13.99 and I was charged $16.99. They had a strict no refund policy on inflatables. The poor girl at the front desk seemed afraid to call the owner in fear of getting in trouble. So instead she called Seth, the manager, who sounded like he was half-baked when he picked up the phone. I explained to him the situation and that I did not have time to go shopping for more items. I let him know that I was simply looking to exchange it for a smaller tube and that we had spent over hundred dollars the night before in their store. I did not yell, I didn't curse, I didn't even raise my voice. But, I was firm in my tone and I was told by Seth "yeah I'll give you your money back but you're being really rude.." sorry if I interrupted your siesta Seth. I explained to you that I've been coming here for 20 years in a come to your store every year and spent hundreds of dollars. Never had a problem except for the five minutes where I couldn't get an oversize tube in my car. And no, I couldn't have it strapped to the top because we were driving up to South haven and it would be too far to be driving with something like that on top of our car. here's the kicker: they told me they were going to lose money because they would just be able to keep it as a display until it went bad. As I was walking out the door I heard one girl say to another "deflate it and put it back in the box" Really? I am a strong proponent of small businesses and especially here in Michigan where it's very seasonal. I have respect for those who have stayed in business. But respect those who have been a patron of your business year after year after year. Is it really worth seven dollars to treat a customer that way. Do you want a manager to speak to your customers like that? And why not create a culture with your employees so they're not afraid to call you. read more

Great place for all your summer needs in New Buffalo, Mi. The staff has always been very helpful, on our last visit the manager helped with a return and even when I offered to pay for a replacement he wouldn't accept anything. I interacted with Scott, the manager, for "assistance" recently, regarding an item we had ordered over the phone and that had been damaged in the mail, due to very poor packaging. Scott is rude and condescending to customers and I was shocked to learn that he was the manager. He told me that he didn't want to "waste his time on me" and that I was "crazy for asking him to ship a cheap item in the first place". (This was an item that my daughter was heartbroken to realize she had forgotten to go back into the store to purchase for her best friend before we left town. I was just trying to make her happy.) For the record, the item was damaged because Scott, who admitted to being the one to package the item for shipping, had merely tossed it in a manila envelope and didn't wrap it to prevent damage, nor did he place it in anything sturdy enough to withstand the post office's machinery. There are plenty of other shops in and near New Buffalo for us to shop and -- I don't see us shopping in Sweetwater again as long as Scott is the manager. read more

Just bad business--return policies need to be posted.I just purchased a Body Glove life vest and a few hours later decided to return the product. It was never used, which was clear to everyone at the counter. The woman who waited on me confirmed the vest was sold without tags, and stated to the manager that she had not informed me of the return policy. What didn't sit with me was their concern that the product was used, yet he would take it back and give me a store credit. How does that make sense? When I came back into the store to discuss the matter further, he told me he would call the police if I didn't get out of his store. There were other people at the counter at this point as well and I could not believe he would respond this way. I was happy to see that they quickly scooted out of the store and down the sidewalk. This is one of the stores in New Buffalo that preys on tourists and I guess locals as well. Run don't walk from this place. read more
