I applied and I didn't get a call back. It soured my relationship with said staff and what made me didn't appreciate our last session was that he had a late night and hangover, meaning he was unfocused towards my progress in our training. I will say, the gym itself was great. Showers and locker rooms are clean, there's just about every machine and weight you can think of, and there were plenty of space. It's unfortunate that I was swindled out of my buck, especially by someone who didn't care about my job situation.

Went in to work out and had one of the front desk people come up to me mid workout and tell me that my membership has been canceled. I had little and none interaction with this person with the exception of a smug attitude. I would look for a different fitness center because they will promise you anything to get you to sign the paper and then the follow through is nothing The staff used to be good, but they have really gone downhill. Save your money and go somewhere where they actually do care about members and customer service because this is not the place.

I'd say this is a definitely a good, utilitarian AF. This is the one I usually come to when in town…read morefor work. It's never been crowded when I've been here. Weight room is bigger than some, with 3 racks plus Smith, a cable machine, leg presses, etc. Only thing I didnt see was an EZ curl bar, but no big deal. They also have bumper plates and rubberized mats on the floor for deadlifts. (They also have lots of sign threatening charges for "dropping weights," not re-racking your weights, or "leaning weights against the wall.") So be warned, I suppose. I haven't had much interaction with staff here, but from what I can recall, they've been friendly. It's not the shiniest or prettiest AF I've been to, but it's got it where it counts. They've also got a vending machine with drinks. Would definitely come back.

I tried hitting up some other gyms but when I made it clear I wasn't interested in joining a cult or taking out a second mortgage on my house they quickly lost interest in me. The manager here was super friendly and willing to take the time to speak to me without undue pressure. The free weights and cardio machines were adequate for my use but the place is probably geared more for the casual user than the gym rats who want to grunt, groan and slam weights around like Neanderthals. So if you don't need a river of testosterone flowing around you but rather a pleasant place to work out without being judged by how many tires you can flip over than this is the place for you.

5 STARS! The entry service set the tone. She was so friendly and accommodating! I forgot her name…read morebut she was from Plano, TX. The best! That's what you need to keep members. The workout was tough as always but this one was at the top. Probably a pre hell week workout. The Playlist was awesome and not too girly. The coach even cranked up the music louder than any other coach I've had in five years. I like my music loud and this hit the spot on such a hard workout. I was visiting from Texas and happy I made the visit. Enjoy!

My previous review complained about their policy of requiring a credit card to book a free class…read moreand my hesitance to do so. I decided on a workaround. I used a visa gift card to book my free class. And I really liked the class, they were actually doing 2 free classes at that point in time, so I liked both classes. After the second I signed up for their cheapest membership which was 4 classes/month at $59. Then they ran a thing called Hell Week, where you got a free t-shirt if you did X out of X workouts in a week, I think it was like 5 of 7. This required me to buy more classes, but I got sucked into the challenge. And it was hard, but it was good. So I bumped up to their next level, 8 classes/month for $100. So I was going about 2xs per week. I'm a 38 yr old guy who hasn't really consistently worked out since high school. I had to kind of ease into this and make sure it worked with my schedule. But the workouts worked for me. The coaches work for me. I like the motivation. I like just showing up and having someone tell me what to do. They always show modifications, and I've never had anyone make me feel weak for the size dumbell I pick up, or modified sit-ups because my back hurts. I've increased my stamina and endurance on the treadmills (when I tried running outside last summer I kept getting bad shin splints, the coaches helped me with how to work those out, but the short bursts on the treads mean I don't get the shin splints very often anyways.) I asked the Coach Theo a few weeks ago about signing up for a 5k, and he encouraged me to do so, said I'm running almost that far on the treads in a class, and that I could totally do it. So I signed up for the Reentry & Recovery Fresh Start 5k last weekend and I ended up finishing far before my goal, knowing I could have actually run a little faster, and I bewilderingly won a medal, 2nd place in my age/gender division. It was an amazing feeling. I'm feeling way more strong, fit, energized. I love that there is a kind of team mentality but that it's also about me and my goals and pushing myself and not about anyone else. It's a great way to clear my head and a great start to my day. I'm now signed up for the unlimited classes for the next 6 months and I'm going like 4-5 times per week. You do have to use one of their brand of heart monitors, there's an arm one, a chest strap that's a little cheaper, and I think they're coming out with one that communicates with the Apple Watch? You can borrow one for the free class, rent one if you want each class during the first month if you're checking it out, but it's more cost effective to buy one eventually. Because of the 30 day cancelation policy, basically anytime you decided you want to quit you'll still have to pay for 1 more month. And they also have like 10 class packs. They want you to come in and try the class and then they'll explain the contract stuff to you, but it's not super high pressure. The people are chill and cool. There's a transformation challenge thing coming up in January that involves photos and weigh-ins and cash prize for percentage of weight loss.

If you have kids, they tell you about the pool to get you to join. BUT the pool is regularly closed. When it is open, they definitely don't want kids nor families there. Pretty much no way a child over the age of 4 can swim, bc they are too big for the kiddie area (which is rarely open anyway), but also the "rules" about big kids swimming changes at the whim of who is working that day. If you ask a clarifying question, they are rude and unhelpful, not to mention unprofessional. The "lifeguards" are all snotty 20 year olds who make it clear they don't want you there. As for the workout area, NO rules are ever enforced: people hog the machines, don't wipe them down, and block the track. Despite all of this being against the rules. But staff doesn't correct them bc they don't enforce the rules. The locker rooms say "no kids of opposite gender" and "no phones allowed", both for the sake of privacy for people undressing. BUT people ignore these rules. Good Luck to you if you attempt to get staff or management to enforce the rules, bc their staff will gaslight you and treat you like YOU are the problem, if you want a rule enforced OR if you raise a concern about the rude rude rude condescending staff members. This place is only there to serve the staff and their buddies. Do yourself and your family a favor and go elsewhere.

I was a member for six years from the old days when the location was still managed under Ozark…read moreFitness. There are a variety of positives and negatives for Genesis that ultimately come out to a mixed bag of good and bad. The location is right off of Battlefield and National, and is very easy to access. However, the parking lot is far too small for the busy times of the day, and it may be difficult to find a spot during the afternoon prime time workout hours. The interior was completely renovated when Genesis took over the gym, and the locker rooms, cardio class areas, and upstairs treadmill and exercise bike sections were completely redesigned and are very well maintained. Honestly, the locker rooms look more like the bathrooms for a fancy hotel than a gym. The gym caters very well to the serious powerlifter or bodybuilder with a wide variety of machines and free weights, including several squat racks and a dumbbell rack ranging all the way up to the very impressive pair of 160's, although much of the equipment is rather old and was first used well over a decade ago. Because of the age of some of the machines, it's not unusual for some of them to be out of order for several weeks at a time when something breaks. The hours have gotten worse in recent years. The gym used to be open 24/7 and closed only on Christmas Day, which was fantastic for the college student with a late schedule. However, they now operate more closely to the day shift industry standard, and tend to close early on the weekends and close completely on certain holidays. They tend to close very early and open late with restricted hours the day before and after a holiday, so you have to pay close attention to their notifications. The price has also sharply increased. What was once a cheap gym membership is now a big monthly commitment that requires a significant bank account. They prefer that you sign a contact for a two year membership, although this can be automatically renewed without any input from you. When I moved out of state, management wanted me to transfer my contract to someone else, despite me not seeing any paperwork in over six years. The gym sells a variety of supplements and other fitness products, although the high prices are usually beaten by buying them somewhere else. They have a smoothie bar by the front desk, but again they tend to be overpriced. Overall, Genesis is a good gym with a few drawbacks. Expensive, and with a restrictive schedule and membership contracts, but very nice with a beautiful interior, and it's well worth the visit if you live or work nearby.

Still the restrooms are a mess, lockers always full, occasional raw sewage on the floor in the locker room, steam room NEVER works and at least the equipment is always broken. How hard is it to replace a carabiner or a simple roll of toilet paper for peak hours? There are two rolls on the fixture, can we have ONE that has TP on it and a locking stall would be nice. On the plus side, they keep the locker rooms open while the sewer backs up. Classy. Kudos. I have worked out at gyms all over the country. This one could be OK. Many Genesis clubs are nice! Just a complete lack of caring is endemic of this location. Like it's cursed.
