As someone with no water experience and who feels uncomfortable in the water, I don't think this class is suitable for people in a similar situation. The class is divided into beginner and more advanced groups, but even in the beginner group, I didn't receive enough attention. When other "beginners" progressed quickly, it was easy for me to fall behind. And when you are clearly struggling, there isn't enough guidance from the instructors, so you often end up just practicing on your own without much direction. Amazing, Incredible! I know these are cliches, but it's all true. I am 44 yrs. old, didn't know how to swim and was terrified of being unable to touch the bottom of a pool, which I think was triggered at a young age. I've been to so many places with beautiful pools and the ocean, and I guess I just pretended that I was okay while everyone was enjoying themselves, but I was not. I committed that I needed to learn how to swim to overcome my fears. I researched the web and watched many YouTube videos when I found SwimEasyNY. I first hesitated to call, putting it off for several weeks until I just said I needed to make the call. SwimEasyNY provides group classes and private lessons. For myself, I wanted private lessons since I prefer one-on-one training programs. Krzysztof (Miracle Worker, Training Coach Extraordinaire) scheduled me for our first session the next day after my call. Of course, I was terrified, but, Krzysztof immediately left me at ease when we met and started our session. First was breathing techniques at the sallow end, while Krzysztof provided constant reinforcement and some good laughs, which helped tremendously! I never felt unsafe or judged by anyone on Krzysztof's team; they're all WONDERFUL and create a great positive atmosphere for everyone--there is no judgment. After my 4th session, I was heading to the deep end, again, with Krzysztof's positive training techniques, and use of a board for assistance, which is something I would never have done before in my life. Krzysztof always provided positive reinforcement to show that water is not your enemy but something to enjoy. Today, August 5, 2022, was my 6th session when something clicked, like riding a bike; I started treading water without assistance or holding onto the side of the pool. Krys, Devin, and Mateo (sp?) Are great instructors that push everyone to be more comfortable in the water. I had a huge fear of water and never had any swimming experience in the past. I froze up on my first lesson and literally blew bubbles for the first 30 min before I was comfortable putting my head in the water. Throughout my learning experience, all of the instructors were very attentive and gave great advice on how to perform drills for each stroke and breathe efficiently in the water. It took me 3 packages to fully be able to swim comfortably and tread water. Most people were able to learn after 1-2 packages but I wanted to be confident with my ability to stay in the water and not feel like I would drown in the deep end. I would highly recommend swimeasyNY to any beginners who want to learn a new skill. I learned to "swim" as a kid but had a lot of difficulty whenever I tried to learn real swim strokes so never really progressed. Fast forward 20 years or so, and there I am deciding that I want to try a triathlon... so now I needed to learn those strokes. After looking at some options for lessons in NYC, I decided to go with swim easy based on the reviews and the cost per lesson. Krzysztof and the other Swim Easy staff are extremely enthusiastic and knowledgeable and have a great system in place for addressing the individual needs of each student. Some people are getting into a pool for the first time and others are more advanced, but either way you are getting a lot of one on one attention as they split up students by level and the class sizes are very small. After completing one lesson package (7 lessons) I felt way more confident in my freestyle and was basically swimming laps, and had also learned other stroke basics and a few other tricks. I decided to continue with more classes because of the great value and how much I was benefiting from the hands on instruction. I believe the experience was well worth the investment. Before I started swimming classes with Swim Easy I carefully compiled a list of reasons why I should NOT enroll (well, I'm obviously too old, never swam in my life, everybody will definitely make fun of my failed attempts, and so on and so forth...). So I called Krzysztof and explained to him all the above and surprisingly he didn't laugh! Instead, he made me feel like I'm not the only one who feels this way, and he patiently explained why it won't hurt to give it a try! So I purchased one class - in case all the above fears were to come true! Next day I showed up at the pool - terrified (as you'd expect) and I met Devon who made the experience really enjoyable and helped me overcome all my fears and really professionally helped me ease into it! Today (7 classes later) I can say that choosing Swim Easy was one of the best decisions I've ever made! I've made incredible progress and now I truly look forward to each class because the environment is super welcoming and fun, and Krzysztof and Devon really know what they're doing. They demonstrate years and years of experience teaching adults and have real passion and a fantastic, encouraging attitude. What I really like is their individual approach to each student and their ability to determine exactly what each person needs to progress to the next level. I completely trust them because they got me to the point where I'm really comfortable in water and I can do things that I didn't think were possible. The first class I was a little unsure of what I had signed up for. I attend on Monday. I'm not a beginner I'm a little nervous in deep water and needed work on my strokes. There didn't seem to be any clear division between levels except for those who are already swimming laps. Ive been going for the last two months in masters class and have visibly improved my swimming. I've always been terrified to put my face in the water because of 2 drowning episodes when I was a kid. Took a swim lesson 10 years ago but didn't help. Every time my lower back flared up, doctors told me to go swim but I couldn't. This time, getting herniated lumbar disk for the third time, I got sick and tired of being afraid and decided to give swimming a try. They seem to really understand how to teach adults like me. They take their time talking to each one of us. I managed to swim the entire lap on my back by the end of the first lesson. I realized that my fear decreased significantly as they taught me how to manage myself more efficiently in the water. It also helped that the class was done in a small group. On my first lesson, I thought I'd be standing in a corner, full of fear. But when other people taking the class shared the same sense of discomfort and fear about water, I felt relieved. The swimeasy instructors are fantastic. They allow you to move at your own pace. For me, who almost drowned as a child and has a huge phobia of water that was great. Unfortunately, depending on the day and time you may come across a full class, which combined with other swim classes using the pool can make it crowded. Krzysztof is an amazing swim teacher and has helped me improve my form tremendously. He is extremely knowledgeable about the best techniques and most importantly is able to communicate them to the students very effectively via drills and other tools that achieve great results. For my big 5-0 I promised myself I would do all sorts of things outside of my comfort zone and stop putting things off for "later". Hands down my biggest leap by far was learning to swim and I jumped out of an airplane this year! I want to jump in a pool on vacation, not hang on to the side of the pool and learn to tread water. In my first class I started by putting my face in the water then slowly becoming more comfortable in the water to swimming with my head in the water and on my back with a kickboard. That was just the first class! What I found out is that there are MANY MANY people who don't know how to swim and its nice to know you are all in the class together and can proceed at your own pace. They give attention to all the students. Everyone is very encouraging and Krzysztof and Devon are very patient and supportive. They also try to teach us good form on top of just being comfortable.
