I just got home from swimming in the local pool in California where I live. This wouldn't have been possible if I didn't meet Alex a couple of months ago! I reached out to him before my trip to Honolulu hoping that he could help me swim after a lifetime of unsuccessful lessons. I didn't know how to relax in the water or anything about form. During my first lesson, Alex gave me a set of drills. Within 5 minutes he was able to tell where I needed the most work. After that, he gave me more drills, each one building on top of the previous one, all working toward a freestyle stroke with breathing. By the second lesson I was kicking, doing strokes, and swimming! Alex was really patient and thorough with explaining the drills and the reasoning behind all the techniques. I felt fully comfortable and confident in his teaching. After my 3 lessons, Alex sent me drills I could continue to do at my local pool at home. I can't express how differently I feel in the water now. Before, I was full of fear but now I'm really happy to be going to the pool every week and even feeling like I need to be near water all the time :) In addition, I've taken Alex's advice to exercise more outside of the pool in order to keep up my cardio, so the benefits have gone beyond swimming. I signed up for private lessons for myself- I'm age 41. I had zero swimming skill. I couldn't float, I couldn't swim, I was the only adult holding onto float in the pool or the beach always. It was so embarrassing... Some of my friends tried to teach me how to swim in the past, nothing worked. I finally decided to get a professional help, especially I started surfing last year without any swimming skills... I'm so glad I signed up sessions with Swim Lessons Hawaii!! My assigned instructor was Linnea. Linnea was amazing! She was so positive and patient with me throughout 8 sessions together! We started lessons at my community pool and we ended our last session at Ko Olina lagoon! First, she taught me how my body should be positioned in the water. Nobody taught me the way how Linnea taught me. It was really eye opening experience. I would say I was able to swim without any help after 6th session finally! I couldn't believe that I was swimming without floats! It was absolutely amazing feeling. I do highly recommend getting professional help from Swim Lessons Hawaii. I'm going to sign up another lessons for my kiddos to learn better swiming skills in the ocean. They can swim at the pool but not strong swimmers in open water. Just finished a month of lessons with Coach Losha. The training itself and how much I improved was way more than I ever expected. I had tried to swim many times in the past but had residual fear from a few almost drownings as a child. Because of his expertise, experience and natural ability to teach, he clearly explained the importance of buoyancy and the drills to achieve that in the water. Swimming can be such a complicated, technical sport and he is able to explain it in an understandable way. He makes it fun and has a great sense of humor. I had chosen him after I saw him working with a triathlete and noticed how much energy he was putting into improving that person's skill. I felt he treated me no differently and truly wants each person to be their personal best. So excited to continue with the drills on my own and notice the improvements. And not only for the physical reasons. I found them very meditative and healing mentally as they force me to not think about work or any other aspect of life. He is an excellent coach. I never knew those details about swimming , I am going to take more sessions. I believe he is the coach who can make me a real swimmer Coach Alex expertise, positive and patient demeanor, and effective communication skills make him a triple threat. He has this bizarre (but amazing) ability to precisely diagnose the weaknesses in my form and suggest helpful adjustments. Beyond his encyclopedic knowledge of technique, I most appreciate his willingness to communicate on my terms and in the ways that help me best learn, whether that means using analogies I understand, finding the right drills for me, or jumping in the water to demonstrate the differences in strokes. When I came to Hawaii with my friend we didn't know how to swim but wanted to try surfing really bad! So I decided to take swimming lessons and I finally make my dream come true. I looked through the swimming schools in Hawaii and this one seemed to be pretty good so I called Alex and made an appointment. On the phone he was very nice and attentive. We met at the pool and our lesson began, everything was great and wonderful and in a week I learned how to swim and wasn't afraid of water anymore. He was very funny and I had a lot of fun on my lessons I didn't even want to stop them. He also told me where it is better to take surf classes and where is cheaper. Overall he helped me a lot and I'm very grateful for that. I highly recommend Alex and his school to everybody who is new to swimming or even not new but wants to improve their skills. read more

One of the best swimming lessons I have ever had. Introduction class is $20. Great value for the money. Alex gave me drills and watch me swim to evaluate buoyancy and skill level. Don't worry if you can not swim. Drills are customize to your level. Alex's instructions are easy to follow. I have tried to learn freestyle swimming few times in the past 8 years and never had any success. I could never keep floating or going more than half of the lap. After taking 10 classes from Alex, I could do 10 laps without stopping! I did get stronger during the course but the correct stroke is the key. Everyone's body is different, what is correct for one may not be correct for the other person. Alex evaluated my swimming each class and gave different drills specifically to improve my stokes gradually overtime. I am so happy with what I have learned! read more

I decided on taking my swim lessons with Swim Lessons Hwaii because of their great reviews and right after the first lesson, I knew I chose the right team. Linnea was such a great instructor and an awesome person. She helped me get over my fear of water with such a calm and comforting attitude and supported me in every way that I needed. I only took four 30 min lessons but in those, I learned to float, turn from one side to another, navigate my body & control my position changes, as well as kick and move from point A to point B. The lesson location is beautiful and the water is super clear. The coordination staff was also very nice and responsive. It was very fortunate, that It was so easy to find it in Yelp. She told me if Alex won't teach me to swim nobody else could, and it was true.
