There hasn't been too many recent review so I figure I leave one, especially since the school is deserving. My daughter has been a student here for a couple years and she has improved greatly! The location isn't too bad. The only downside is that parking can suck depending if there's an event happening at the community center. The staff at Leahi is amazing. Ashley, who works the front desk almost always and helps with registration is amazing. She's so personable and treats everyone like family! She and the pool staff made accommodations to help my daughter feel comfortable during her first lessons without a parent. The staff in the pool has been amazing and accommodating. Kiki - who graduated HS and is no longer working there, really helped my daughter with her confidence and really helped her literally every step of the way. Sage was so fun and very enthusiastic! Ashley (in the pool) also helped my daughter gain confidence when my daughter was really swimming on her own. Koa is awesome and really makes you feel so welcomed too! I also do commend the owners as well. I was at the pool one day when there was a troubled parent/grand parent asking why her student couldn't move up levels. Even though this customer was clearly frustrated and maybe a little angry with the owner, the owner explained why so calmly that the requirements aren't just there just cause - it's for safety too!! Open swim is always nice, usually Saturdays at 4pm. It does get crowded so either come super early or late! read more

Leahi Swim School is a MUST for all keiki for swimming lessons! With such an ohana based environment, they can break through any child's fear of the water or their challenges with any speed bump they're stuck on. These two factors alone is what my son was able to achieve. Located in a quiet pearl city community behind their community center, you'll find leahi swim. A very clean pool deck area and pool. The staff here is always welcoming and are known as Aunties and Uncle's to the kids. The kids here can start off below 3 years old but if they are they must attend the class with the parent. 3+ may attend classes that fits their swim level and skills. When I enrolled my son he was at the level of not being able to put his head under water on his own and he absolutely hated splashes. He just could never get his face wet! So he started beginner I. After a little over a year and about 6 seasons, he's now able to go underwear ingredients voluntarily and swim across the pool! Can never forget his "Pizzas, Tummy, Slice", "Ice Creams", and Foggy Legs techniques plus more. He got to the level we wanted him to finally reach and I can't thank the staff here enough with helping brayden get to the level he is at now (Advanced Beginner II). With all the familiar faces, they still greet Brayden even when he's not in his classes. You'll even see co owner Ben jump into the water and teach a class or two when there's not enough instructors for the day. At the end of each season on the last day it's also "Medal Day!" When kiddos complete their season, they get a medal! Including the babies. A tip for this school, it may be very hard to get enrolled for your first class and may be on a wait list. However once you're enrolled, you get early registration before public for each season going forward. They have an online system with their high volumes of enrollment as well that you'll learn as you do and they provide a flyer every season as well to follow along. read more

Incredible swim school. We've been to both locations and the both are great! Our daughter went from absolutely refusing to put her head under water to getting "treasure" off the bottom. Class size is kept small and the level 1 class has two swim coaches per class (unsure of other classes). Our daughter has so much fun and looks forward to it each week. Very, very happy with the school. We've been to two separate classes, 4 different instructors. All 4 were absolutely amazing. They push each kid to make progress while making it fun. Two locations and always a constant here on the island, since being on an island it's kind of important to learn how to swim... this place is nice and the instructors are great. Initial contact and registration for summer lessons was a little difficult as they call you back, and if you can't answer your phone at work it's tough... but they were very helpful getting my daughter signed up. The location in Pearl city is nice and they break out the groups by colored hats for skill level. Short 30 min clases but it's pretty cost effective so I airecito it. I recommend it read more

We did 2 sessions with our babies (twins) and it was an amazing experience. The first time we were waitlisted and couldn't get a two spots on the same day so we had to come in on 2 separate days which was hard to navigate at first but we worked it out. We had Aunty Jess and Aunty Cody and both of them were incredible teachers. Our babies were 9 months and they enjoyed swimming and I enjoyed them learning safe ways to swim. We were the youngest guest there but I appreciated the techniques Aunty Jess and Aunty Cody showed us. The second session we were able to sign them both up for the same day and time and it was much easier for us. We had Aunty Cody again which was nice cause the babies recognized her and enjoyed swimming with her. We also felt comfortable with her and saw her as a friend by the end of it. My kids love being here for swimming lessons. We took them somewhere beforehand and it did not work out as well as we wanted it to after six swim lessons. On their first lesson here at Leahi, they could not stop talking about how much fun they had and actually remembered everything they learned along with the skills they gained within the 25 min span. They seem more confident putting their face in the water and just overall learning from their teachers. We are loving this school so far and hope to continue going until my kids can confidently swim in the deep end of the pool. Thank you Leahi Swim! read more

Not sure if I like this place. Paid $230 for my 3y/o spring lessons. Every Saturday for 25 min. My initial thoughts "oh it's cool, not to bad. My daughter is learning some techniques, i.e. how to hold her breath, push off, how to hold her hand just get comfortable with the water. Spring class is over and now we are in summer classes. Another $230 and she's still doing the same thing the first day she got here. Coaches said she doesn't feel like my daughter is confident in the deeper end of the water and kept her in the same class instead of moving her up a class. So I guess I just paid $460 for her to playin the water. I won't be signing her up again. read more

Great swim school for chilrden. They start from infants and up. At first i was hesitant because the classes are only once a week for 25 minutes. However i saw such growth in my sons swimming abilities during his first session that we continued for a second session. The staff is very perfesional and friendly and work to make both the chilrden and parents comfortable. I also like that the pool is heated so i am not worried about lessons in the winter and spring when the temperatures are cooler. THe only bad thing is that sometimes it is difficult to get ahold of people that work there. Sometimes it takes about 12-24 hours before i am able to reach someone or someone calls me back. My daughters first session here at Leahi Swim in Pearl City. It's located at the Momilani Rec Center. You need to find street parking. They don't have their own personal parking lot. But there is a lot of street parking. The staff here is super friendly and amazing. My daughter was put in the red group for beginners. After her first lesson, she couldn't stop talking about going to swim class. She absolutely loves it. One lesson I forgot a towel. I went to purchase one but they ran out. The lady ( I'm assuming boss) lended me a towel so fast. I was real shocked and very thankful. If you sign up, sign up fast and early. Time slots are limited. I heard it's more busy on weekends then during week days. So if you want your child to have more one on one, I suggest signing up for the week day. I love the staff here and how great they are with the children. I will definitely be signing up my daughter again. They also offer military discount . read more

My 5 year old son has been taking lessons here for a couple months. He loves it. I love how the staff is able to get my kid to pay attention. On his first day, he was afraid of getting in the pool. I guess the sight of having all these parents, students, and instructors was a little intimidating. My son was throwing a fit, and refused to get in. Finally, his instructor walked over to him where he was sitting behind the tables, picked him up, and held him as she walked in the pool. He's been okay ever since. He listens, follows the lessons, and loves to talk to everyone. He's overcome his fear of putting his head underneath the water, and laying on his back. I love that we don't have to fight for parking. Lots of street parking on a Sunday afternoon. I would recommend other parents to bring their kids. read more

Their process for registering students favors students already enrolled. They don't provide email updates and likely contact only some preferred customers. For three years I have emailed and waited. This is the only class near us. Traffic and logistical makes going elsewhere difficult. Even though he was in a baby class they have not facilitated actual swim lessons. Except - for one $25 - 15 minutes class. What's the point? By the time he trusts the instructor, it's done. I encourage my association to expand the swim lessons being offered at our community center. read more

Great place to sign your kids up to swim. Highly recommend. Our 11 month old just graduated from the class and loved it although it was an infant class we learned so much and our daughter is no where near afraid of the water. Classes: Class is 20 minutes or so long and taught in the pool (heated pool) with a dedicated instructor Parking: Parking is available on the side of the road as the parking lot inside the gate is more for the Farmer's market that takes place right beside the Leahi Swim School. Pool: As stated the pool is heated, showers are provided along one section of the fence. Picnic tables and chairs are scattered around the pool with cover. They have pool shades that they can pull out if the sun gets to bad/hot when your kids are in the class. Price: I'm not sure about the price for older children but for infants the price was reasonable for the length of the class. Highly recommend. read more

My daughter is enjoying her class and coach is very nice. She is getting so much better with her skills.

The instructors are well trained and are good with the kids. They were very patient with my children who are uncomfortable with new situations. Even though they were crying because they were afraid to float on their own, the instructors kept them calm and got them to keep trying. My kids now love it and are happy to take swimming lessons. I like that the classes are short (perfect for their attention span) and since my kids are now older, we don't have to go in the water with them anymore. . The pool is heated for the kids' comfort though. There are tables and chairs for parents to sit and watch but depending on what time you go, shade might be at a premium if the sun is coming in at an angle. Bathrooms are okay (typical rec center bathrooms, but maybe a little messier since it used by pool-goers). But they could use more stalls. Parking is on the street and is usually pretty abundant unless there is a party or some other event at the rec center. read more

I've had my kids at Leahi Swim School for about 3 years now. I do like it. The teachers, overall, seem to be very good. The management seems to be on top of it. My complaint would be in the registration system. I think it's great that over the 3 years that i've been attending registration periods, they seem to have figured out better efficiencies. It used to crawl along taking forever to register. The system seems much better now although I still think it's pretty silly to arrive before 6am for a line that opens at 8am. Hopefully the system continues to improve! There are some teachers that have more experience than others or maybe just a passion for teaching children and swimming. You can tell by their enthusiasm for being with the kids and helping them to get better. read more

Swimming is no small feat in the eyes of a young child (and even for many adults like myself! No shame!), and my son was definitely intimidated and weary of the water prior to taking his first swim class at Leahi Swim School. Because his preschool is one of the schools that Leahi offers a special program for, we were able to register our 4-year-old for month long classes that met two days each week. However, prices and schedules differ when registering for swim classes through his school. We have also registered him for classes outside of his school schedule too. My son started in the Beginners I class for those students who won't put their heads or faces in the water. + Two teaching locations, Pearl City and Manoa + 5 kids per teacher + 25 minutes long + Classes grouped by skill level + Prices vary depending on the number of lessons and day of the week (i.e. $184 for 11 Saturday lessons) My son completed a few sessions as a Beginner I and has now graduated to the next level, Beginner II. Overall, he enjoyed the classes and his teacher, but there were definitely days when his fears (manifested in crying spells) got the best of him (thank you to the Leahi staff for their patience!). He also really appreciated the ceremony and swimming metal that Leahi gives to their students after each session. I'm excited to see him continue to grow and become increasingly comfortable in the water. So all in all, we're going to just keep swimming, just keep swimming at Leahi. read more

The way this business has treated customers during Covid is horrendous. They closed their doors on 1 Aug and haven't provided any updates since then. I know multiple people who have attempted to contact them for refunds without any success (meaning they don't answer facebook messages, emails, or voicemails). They also double charge for registration fees. My child was signed up for spring lessons, only took one class (because they decided to close), and then rolled over tuition credit to the summer session. They charged a registration fee for both spring and summer.... and then they closed again after only a few summer classes. No communication. No refunds. No excuse not to be open in December. No way to run a business. read more

This swim school is located in a neighborhood in Pearl City. The pool itself is clean with plenty of seating for family. However the only parking is street parking and the bathrooms are the only place to change. The bathrooms are standard outdoor public facilities so they can get a little gross. The classes are broken down into groups based on swimming comfort and skill level. There were ten 30-minute classes for the beginning level session we signed up for. $16 average for a half hour session at normal price ($160 total). We got a military discount and paid $110 total for all ten classes. The main reason I'm giving 3 stars is because the swimming sessions run back to back with each other. So at 4:55 all the children for one class get out of the pool and the 5pm class gets in right at 5pm. When it hits 5:25pm then the class ends and the kids must exit the pool for the next class. Because of this, the classes felt really rushed and I did not feel like my daughter got the most out of the session as she could have. If there is a misbehaving child or a child that is scared of a task, then the whole class seems to pause so the teacher(s) can address the situation. I really like the staff and the theme of how the swim school is run but the school should offer longer classes with transition periods in between each session. read more

The Pearl City Leahi Swim school took my daughter (3 years old at the time) from screaming whenever water touched her face, to confidently jumping into the water and putting her head underwater. I was AMAZED! The great thing about the Pearl City location is that the pool is HEATED. I was so grateful for that, since it eliminated the struggle to just get my daughter in the pool because it was "too cold". She didn't mind getting right in since it was warm and comfortable. Once she was in the water, Ms. Julie did her magic in getting the kids to be comfortable with water on their heads, and eventually totally underwater. Each week I was amazed to see how she progressed the kids a little a time. In one short session, my daughter went from fear of having water on her head, to backfloating, gliding underwater, kicking, beginning stroking and holding her breath underwater for a "fast" 20 seconds. It was fun, and by the third class, my daughter was excited for swim lessons. I used to be a swimmer in my younger days, and thought that I could just teach her on my own. If you are like me and think that you can just teach your kid how to swim on your own, you MAY be right, but the methods and foundations that Leahi teaches them is definitely not something that I could have provided for her. They are creative, patient and professional and I HIGHLY recommend them! read more

Having a four year old dare devil for a son can get exhausting! Especially when he shows no fear near the water. *cringe* Reminiscing on my own childhood I remember learning the basics of swimming at Leahi Swim School so I decided to sign my son up. He is only into the second week of lessons, but our experience here has been nothing but fantastic. The staff over the phone was super conscientious in talking with me about my son's skill level and finding the perfect level class for him. His lesson consists of about 4-5 kids and either one or two instructors. Honestly, I feel for them! It is hard handling one four year old in the pool, let alone four rambunctious boys! After each 25 minute lesson, the class groups together and goes over what they learned bringing the class full circle. The first thing my son says after he exits the pool and runs over to me shivering is "Mom, are we coming back tomorrow?" A happy and exercised preschooler is all the justification I need for the $200 + enrollment fee. Can't wait for him to go through the season and to watch his progress! read more

Very patient instructors! As an adult, I was nervous but progressed every session. I never thought I would be comfortable in a pool but their slow and progressive teaching style fooled me! Our son LOVES this place! They've taken him from not being able to swim at all to him being able to jump off the diving board and go on the big slides at the local pool in a year! He absolutely can't enough of swimming in the water, and we have Leahi to thank for that! They are really professional and run the swim school like a school. They have the kids grouped by level, and each swim teacher only has a couple kids each, so each child gets a lot of attention. Their packages are reasonably priced. They give also you reports cards with very specific information on the progress of your child's skills. We were able to watch Max one day when he "graduated" and we thought it was so awesome that they give the kids medals when they move up to the next level. I like the way the school is run, I like that they have weekend classes available to accomodate busy schedules and I like the consistency that our son has with the classes. We have to drive 30 minutes to get to Leahi and think every minute is worth it. read more

I think this is a great place for swim lessons! I've taken my boys here a few years ago but took a break for a while. We tried out another place for their swim lessons which was a wrong decision! Quickly cancelled those lessons & brought them back here last year summer. Best decision to come back to Leahi Swim School! Both of my boys have progressed so much in all levels of their swim skills! I'm a preschool teacher and I've had to help accompany a few students to Leahi Swim. A private school bus comes to pick us up at the school at a certain time. The driver and assistance are very friendly and welcoming. They help alot with any carry-on and making sure that all children are accounted for and buckled in. They are also very quick at addressing us teachers by name. When we get to Leahi Swim a swim instructor greets us at the gate and welcomes the children. When we get to the pool area they have a specific area where the children can put their belongings in and sit to wait for instructions. Once everyone is settled the instructors begin greeting the children and introduced the instructors. As they were placed into groups in the pool they wore colored caps that will distinguishes which color group you are in. As I watched on the side the instructors were very patient with the children which is very good since these are preschool children. They are able to work with the ones who need more help and ones that's are advanced. We've attended several sessions now and I have seen the children's growth in their comfort and swimming skills in the water. They also teach them water safety in the pool and in the beach. At the end of the session they are awarded a medal. And during this time parents are welcome to watch their children swim and receive their medals. read more

I love the free open swims on Saturdays! The price of lessons here is a bit steep! My only complaint is they don't teach the life saving method of floating on the back for when a baby falls into a pool- I would have liked to have just gotten lessons for that for my baby. My daughter just finished her swim lessons here today. There were 8 in the package and I believe I paid $180. It was worth it! Before swim school my daughter would only swim with me and she hated being dunked in the water. After the last lesson today, she does fine with daddy in the water and loves being dunked in. What's even more amazing is that she learned to kick and even attempts to paddle! Teacher Zach was amazing and he is really encouraging to the babies.
