At no point was I given any warning that missed appointments would result in termination of care. After this, I was refused further appointments without advance notice, without written termination, and without any referral to another provider or transition plan. The office indicated that prescription refills would be called in, but refills alone do not provide ongoing medical supervision or continuity of care. This situation disrupted my treatment and required me to secure a new psychiatrist on my own. Patients should ask very clear questions about how missed appointments are handled, whether warnings are given, and what procedures are followed before care is discontinued.

He also even went out of his way to stay late to make sure I was able to get a medication sample that I needed. They both are very resourceful and highly educated on medications and finding the right ones for you and instantly finding alternates that would be a better fit based on your needs. The receptionist, Missy is wonderful and I cannot sing her praises enough. She is dedicated, takes you seriously and treats all patients with respect. She is extremely understanding and compassionate and a literal ray of sunshine. I think of her as the reception Angel. They keep up with medical research and developments that are both traditional and naturopathic. You are given the choice to address your issues with traditional approaches or with naturopathic approaches or both. They do a great job of offering me care covered by my insurance and adding on the naturopathic care I want as self pay. I am grateful because I could never afford concierge holistic care and I do want traditional medical care but want awareness and availability of holistic options for the things traditional medicine is failing me at. A great example of the naturopathic was a recent toxic mold exposure. I am severely sensitive to toxins in mold and was blasted with moldy attic dust and my physical reaction was swift followed by a systemic inflammatory response that was destroying me, and there really is nothing I've found that helps that in regular medicine. They offered me an ozone therapy IV that has helped other mold-sensitive patients and I recovered so quickly I couldn't believe it! It sounded wacky and I was skeptical but desperate -- but my God, it worked! Now I know what to do instead of suffering for days or weeks with the aftermath of my body kicking into overdrive, I can get relief. For run of the mill things I am willing to see the ARNPs but for critical or foundational items I make appointments with the doctor if I can wait. I trust the docs to help me advocate for care too. My gastro wouldn't test for parasites. He wouldn't even consider parasites a potential cause of gastrointestinal issues and just diagnosed me with IBS (a generic diagnosis of exclusion). The docs encouraged me to ask again because parasites can be a factor. I went to another gastro and he ran PCR stool tests and uncovered INVASIVE AMOEBAS and C-dif. My first gastro would have left me with amoebas that attack your gut and then go to your liver and lungs and brain and slapped me with a B.S. "IBS" diagnosis that was just his medical negligence. Thank God for the primary care doctors of this clinic who care and are knowledgeable and give me confidence to ask questions. You HAVE to choose knowledgeable doctors and primary care and this is a great one.

She told me i owed $124 and then when i said these are wellness visits, she said i had to talk to billing (why??). Then, billing called me back, said the appointments were scheduled incorrectly and that I didn't owe anything, and that she would fix the appointments. Then, the woman who checked me in tried to collect $124, I explained to her that both appointments were annual appointments. 5 minutes later I got a text advising me to pay my balance. They called me back up to pay $124. Then, one of them said that one appointment would be covered and the second appointment applied to my deductible. I told her I've met my deductible and billing said it wouldn't cost anything because they are wellness visits. She then tried to collect 20% coinsurance. It's truly disappointing that they can't get it right. The nurses and doctors were great but this is not the first time we've had issues with the front office staff. They do not know what's going on and they will try to overcharge you. They just charged me $50 for not going to the appointment. What a joke.

I understand that choosing a psychiatrist is a very difficult decision, and usually when you need…read moreto do so, you are not in the best frame of mind to make what is a very important decision. That said, Dr. Patel has been a very good psychiatrist for me. He is compassionate, listens, and gives much needed advice. What people need to remember is that what a psychiatrist usually does is work with a patient and their medication(s) only. Psychiatrists normally don't provide therapy. I do not see Dr. Patel for therapy, simply for medicine management. Even so, he does take time to talk to me. He is a kind man. He has helped me tremendously when I needed help. If I need his assistance between appointments, I call and am able to speak with his assistant, who speaks with Dr. Patel. If necessary, an appointment is scheduled for me right away. I always feel cared for. Additionally, the staff at his office, Florida Behavioral Medicine, are all friendly and helpful, even when they are overworked with answering the phones, checking people in, checking people out and answering questions from people coming in and out. Florida Behavioral Medicine is a multi-doctor practice and sometimes the lobby may be a bit hectic. But I am always checked in before my appointment time, although at times patience is a virtue. Regardless of how busy the entire practice is, I usually see Dr. Patel on time and sometimes earlier than my scheduled time. I tend to show up for appointments early - that's just who I am. Dr. Patel is the most effective psychiatrist I have ever had, and just believe me, that is really saying a lot.

They do not respond to urgent voicemails, ignore faxes and calls from the pharmacy, and this happens every cycle. He requires a visit every 60 days, but they schedule past the 60 days. I believe this practice of ignoring patients who are having to stop taking medicines that warnings say DO NOT suddenly stop taking medicine is malpractice and a call to our lawyer is next after writing reviews to let people know to never ever use this DR. He is bad news, period. Or his office staff, but the buck stops at the top, and hard to blame a horrible team if the DR does not care. The past few years with Dr. Ashtok Patel has been a repeating nightmare from day one.
