I can't say enough great things about the Sylvan Learning Center in Buffalo/Williamsville. I had to take several appraisal tests in one day and reserved a room for seven hours straight. Unfortunately, SNAFU after SNAFU with the testing platform (none of it Sylvan's fault) meant I couldn't finish all of my exams that day. The manager went above and beyond to help me--opening the center early the next morning so I could complete the last few tests. There was even more behind-the-scenes drama with the curriculum provider that I won't share here, but every single time an issue popped up, the Sylvan team stepped up and found a solution. Their flexibility, professionalism, and commitment to customer success were outstanding. I highly recommend this location for any testing, tutoring, or learning needs. My son has been attending Sylvan for sometime now, and the growth we've seen in both his reading skills and confidence has been remarkable. I honestly don't know where he would be in school without Sylvan. The staff are supportive, knowledgeable, and truly invested in each child's success. Terrible experience. Do not enroll your child here. We had our daughter into math and English (ELA) what we hoped was for her grade level but it was clearly not. We did six lessons at $46/hour in July. We hoped that this would be a long-term tutoring plan to help bring her up to speed for the coming school year and continue throughout the next school year. After paying $95 for an initial assessment test, you would think they would create a plan for her that is appropriate for her skill level and needs. They did not. The ELA teacher admitted that the work she had assigned was too easy. Plus you would think a one hour tutoring session is one hour. They are one hour is 50 minutes tops. Plus it is not private as you were told it would be. The time is shared with another student also online. So the instructor is constantly turning to the other child while your child is waiting to be instructed. At most, you're getting 25 minutes of the teachers time. But you've paid for an hour at $46 rate. Not cheap. During this time of pandemic they are trying to drum up their business. Their slogan: kids need tutoring because the hybrid learning plan or remote learning will not be sufficient for your child this year. Don't buy into this plan. Trust me on this one. I lost close to $400 with no refund. They make it sound like it's going to be great for your child. It's great for their business! read more

Under new ownership! Backstory: we went to Sylvan two years ago for math tutoring for our son. They did a great job then, and our son's math scores went up, as promised! They were all about business, though. My son didn't love going, but it did the job. Now the center is under new ownership, and he loves it!! The staff is wonderful, warm and caring. I've had excellent communication with them. Just like before, your child is assessed at the beginning and then after a certain amount of time to make sure they have learned what they are supposed to. Again, my son's math scores have gone up! He really seems to understand the material now. I'm so thankful we have the staff at Sylvan to help him! read more

Not a very professional organization based on how they handle inquiries. I've called multiple times seeking information, but they NEVER return a phone call. The staff that answers the phone promises a return call, but it never happens. Not exactly what you would expect from a Learning Center... I assume they are shorthanded and likely in financial trouble. Look elsewhere for your child. read more
