I can't say enough about Caitlin, she is a fantastic designer and a pleasure to work with. She is easy going, has a great sense of styles, and is very professional. We hired her a few years ago when my wife wanted help selecting paint colors for 4 bedrooms, living room, and hallways. It was just a small job and I wasn't sure we needed help for such a task. What a difference it makes having a designer help! She walked through each room, got a good sense of us, the function of each space, and what furnishings (designs/colors) needed matching. The end result was great. So when it was time to remodel both the master and hall bathrooms a couple years layer, we had her consult at our house, and then at a couple of stores. We met at a tile store to look through and select everything. She helps de-sress the design decisions (my wife and I joke that she saves marriages by being the design intermediary). She also went with us to pick out cabinets at one of her"go-to" stores that has budget pricing with better quality and options than the big box stores. We opted to have her do design drawings of the tile layouts...do that!! I had thought about saving the money and doing it with my own CAD software. We hired Caitlin's services again to do the design for our new master bathroom. This time, the experience was the opposite! To start with, none of the layout concepts that she presented to us were appealing. We finally gave her a concept that we came up with. The design she gave us for it seemed good, and we planned our bathroom remodel around it. However, when we began talking to contractors, we came to realize that all along, the tub size was non-standard and too small to be viable. The tweaks Caitlin made and sent back were also non-functional. I ended up scrambling to draw up a new design myself. Basically, the money we paid to Symmetry Designs ended up being a waste! Caitlin has also fallen behind the times in terms of the latest design concepts. For example, when I started putting together the new design, I found that there is bi-folding European door hardware now available in the market that eliminated the need for a swing door. This finding changed the entire layout for me, for the better. This should have come from Caitlin in the first place. read more

2 1/2 years ago I was fortunate to work with a Homeowner that already hired Caitlin from Symmetry Designs. As a General Contractor it helps when you are working with a professional that has a vision with direction. Caitlin provided drawings to scale with a key chart detailing what materials go where and included the name and model numbers. This preplanned information helps me focus on just building the room. She would visit the job site to review what had transpired and to make sure that we are communicating in the same language. The end result it beautiful. Caitlin at Symmetry Designs was great to work with. My husband and I remodeled our 1917 craftsman home in downtown San Jose. He and I wanted to keep to the period of the house as much as possible. We had some ideas on a few things but really needed help "visualizing" how it would look. After giving Caitlin a copy of the architectural drawings and an overview of what we wanted to do, she came up with some 3-D drawings of our kitchen and both bathrooms for us. She gave us several choices: one of what we thought we wanted, and then also did 1 or 2 versions of something similar but tweaking it with ideas and suggestions of her own. We always went with one of her suggestions. I have to add that this was all done during the height of Covid, so most of this was done via emails. Not easy to do. When most of the construction was done, Caitlin met us at the house, our first time meeting her in person and we were all masked up, to help us choose paint colors for all the rooms. She brought paint swatches from the brand of paint our contractor prefers, and helped us narrow down our choices. Once we had 2 or 3 choices for each room, she requested 8.5x11 swatches to be sent to us so we could get a better sense of the colors with the bigger swatches. If we ever have any decorating needs in the future, we would definitely go back to Symmetry Designs. read more

Caitlin and her team are miracle workers. Our crazy master bathroom was a disaster. After carefully listening to all of our ideas, Caitlin came up with more than 6 designs. We agreed on the layout and then Symmetry Designs got the permits (very difficult during the first year of Covid) necessary to start the work. After I requested, she recommended different builders she liked working with. She worked with me on selecting all of the materials and the final product is incredible. Caitlin did the design for my master bathroom remodel. I couldn't be more pleased with how my master bathroom looks. I continually get compliments about how beautiful the bathroom is. I had no real vision for my bathroom. This is why I looked for a designer to work with. I gave Caitlin some general directions about what I wanted and some how magically she designed a bathroom that I thoroughly love. Caitlin was so easy to work with. I never felt pressured. She would always present me with a few options for every decision. I felt included in the decisions but not overwhelmed by them. The best of both worlds! I'll never forget going to Lowes with Caitlin to shop for a myriad of items for the bathroom (sinks, faucets, shower heads, towel bars, lights etc.). Within a little over an hour we had everything picked out and ordered. She flew through Lowe's catalogs and displays and with lightening speed narrowed every decision down to a few options for me to choose from. Had I done that on my own I would have been there hours longer and not have picked out items that went so well together. Right there and then she earned her fees. That experience continued over and over throughout the remodel from selecting granite, to tile, to paint color, to window blinds, to carpet etc. Caitlin also recommended a contractor for the remodel who was as high quality as she is and was a pleasure to work with. The two of them made a great team. I used to think working with a designer was a luxury. Caitlin made me realize if you are going to do any significant remodel having a professional assist you is critical for ensuring you are fully satisfied with your sizable investment. I did a kitchen remodel without design help a year earlier and I am not anywhere as pleased with it as I am my bathroom. I used to think designers only worked on big budget remodels (remodeling an entire house for example). Caitlin proved to me she is willing to and can work with any budget. The master bathroom remodel is complete but I am still working with Caitlin on a number of other small updates around the house. If you have even a passing thought of working with a designer you owe it to yourself to have Caitlin see what she can do for you. I had three new pieces of furniture I wanted to add into my home but had issues with placement and how to incorporate different styles into an eclectic, but not mish-moshed, look.
