I'll be honest-we were pretty overwhelmed at the thought of doing a full makeover for our home. We knew we wanted a total makeover for our place, but trying to find a team that actually handles the 'boots on the ground' construction side and the high-end design is way harder than it looks. After talking to a few different firms, Kanika Design just felt like the right fit. Kanika really listened to what we wanted. I've always been a bit nervous about using bold colors, but she pushed us (in a good way!) for a deeper color palette in the main living areas. It looks incredible. Kanika found us so many unique, high-quality furniture pieces that you just won't find at a big-box store. The biggest thing for us was logistics. Once the design process completed, their team handled everything - architectural, permit headache, and construction. Anyone who has done a remodel knows things never go 100% perfectly, but whenever an issue popped up, they were on top of it immediately. They kept the contractors moving and kept us updated on the budget and what was happening next. It's a relief to finally be done after 2 years and have a home that feels like us but way better. Kanika is an extremely talented designer, and I can't recommend her enough! We bought a house in March 2020 - signed the contract days before covid stay at home orders. My husband and I then spent two years working from home together in our front room (we call it the study now) without any rhyme or reason, just putting our desks wherever they fit, because it all happened so quickly. It was awkward and ugly, cords and monitors everywhere, and not a great look for people walking in our front door. The whole time, I was thinking, "when this is done and at least one of us goes back to the office, I want to make this room into a nice space to read and relax, and also to WFH when I have to." That's where Kanika comes in. I tried changing the place up on my own, but every choice I made seemed to make my space uglier and more awkward. It was time to hire a professional. That decision was worth every penny. In the end, my project turned out to be slightly bigger than just one room. I enlisted Kanika's help in choosing flooring, baseboards and paint for the whole house, furniture for my entire downstairs (we were still using the old living room furniture left by the previous owners), and light fixtures throughout. She was easy to work with and understood immediately what I was going for. My study is a real showstopper now - the walls are this deep blue color that looks amazing, she designed a gorgeous custom bookshelf that makes perfect use of the space, and she picked a couch that is the perfect size, just the right color, and so comfortable. And we still managed to get a desk in there for those WFH days. Literally just the other day, I was on a Zoom with someone and thought "this room behind me is so pretty, it looks like a fake background." But it's real, and in my house! And it wouldn't have happened without Kanika. The paint color she helped me pick for my bedroom is something I never would have chosen on my own, but I still regularly think about how nice it looks whenever I go in there. Same with the color of the living room couch, I'd never have found it on my own, but now that I have it, I love it. She knows her stuff. Kanika's husband Adi runs the business side of things. He managed the project, hiring contractors and keeping everything on schedule. The work was done on time, and he kept us in the loop, patiently answering any concerns or questions. Kanika helped us tremendously in determining the finishes for our kitchen and living room. In the worlds of software and web design I've worked with many designers, and I can say that Kanika knows her stuff. Plus she also is able to walk that line between having a point of view, and being able to work with the client's preferences as well. We hired Kanika for half a day, which is actually quite a bit of time, and we covered a lot of ground. She also referred us to several places to source materials such as flooring and tiles, and we've found those to be good places. Kanika really encouraged us to go looking at a number of stores, with our new design ideas in mind, and that worked out well. As an example. there's just no way to buy flooring from a website--it needs to be interacted with. I liked, too, that Kanika helped us understand several design principles, and got us up to speed on things to think about for making our own design decisions. We'll probably ask her a few more questions down the line, once we've really narrowed down our material choices. We are pretty hands on, but you can also delegate the design to her and then just review options--of course that takes a lot more time from her. As with any designer, check out the portfolio for a sense of what you'll be getting. Having said that, understand that for residential work in particular, the clients probably had a heavy hand in final decisions. My sense is that for commercial work, such as an office, it's more hands off, and you can see a designer's vision better. Kanika's portfolio shows great use of color, and modern looks. read more

I got 2 hours of professional assistance from Kanika. I was moving to a 2 bedroom apartment with mostly rental furniture in the short-term and desperately needed help with short-term and long-term furniture planning and color selection, plus sizes and colors of carpets. I had a prioritized list of problems and ideas by room. I never thought we could get to it all in 2 hours. The furniture placement was challenging due to having 2 computer desks. Kanika jumped right in, listened to my thoughts and gave me excellent suggestions, sometimes with options, sometimes with things to avoid. We completed the entire list in 2 hours.
