He was very knowledgeable and explained thoroughly what work he was doing and why one of our locks needed to be replaced when we weren't planning on replacing it. He also noticed we were missing the lock plate on a door and replaced it free of charge! Very professional. Wore covers on his boots to be considerate of our rugs. I do not enjoy writing bad reviews, but I think this is an important story to put out there for anyone considering doing business with this shop. At this point, I have given them MORE than enough of an opportunity to make good and they have opted to let this incident slide. Nothing personal against any of the folks at Syosset Lock Shop, but after 40+ years of doing business with you, I think you really blew it this time. It started with a simple idea to break down and pay-up for a new key fob. The two that came with my Honda Element had petered out, one at a time, over the course of a couple of years, and replacing the batteries was no longer a magic fix. The buttons were worn down and who-knows-what other components had outlived their functionality. The thought of spending hundreds of dollars just to be able to enter my vehicle didn't sit well with me, but the car has been paid off for so long that investing a little bit into it wouldn't be SUCH a catastrophe. My Honda dealer's price was, I felt, out of line. So, when someone advised that I could get a fob from a third-party dealer, I decided to do some research. Syosset Lock Shop had been my go-to solution for anything lock-related since I got my driver's license in 1980. They have always been the most expensive option, but never did they disappoint in more than 40 years. Syosset Lock Shop moved into its third Syosset location (that I remember) sometime last year and then seemed to move out within just a few months. I finally tracked them down in an even newer store in East Norwich, but couldn't seem to show up at the store when someone was actually there. I eventually ended up texting with a woman I had never seen in the store before. She asked me to text her the make and model number of my car, along with a photo of my fob, which I did immediately. When I told her I didn't have a working fob at that point, she quoted me $340, at which point I advised that I would "pass" and just continue to open my doors manually. Within one text, the price came down to $100 to "change out the insides" of my existing fob, a process she supposedly checked out with her tech before mentioning it to me. We then arranged for me to come in to the store and leave a $45 deposit for the blank fob, which she told me would arrive in "a few days." I didn't hear from her for probably a week-and-a-half/two weeks, and then she texted me that the fob was delivered. Programming it would take under an hour, she advised, so I made an appointment to go after work on November 14th at 4:00pm. When I arrived, the store was empty, but a few texts alerted the tech while he was having a snack a few doors down. He grabbed some kind of gizmo and met me at my car. I'm not sure what he did - or tried to do - because he spoke so softly and mumbly that I couldn't understand what was going on, except that this poor guy was smashing the buttons of my new fob relentlessly for almost an hour, with no results. At the end, he handed me the blank fob and said "It's not working." "Well, what does that MEAN?" I asked. "I don't know. It's just not working. There's probably something wrong with your car." "What could be wrong with my car?" "I don't know." "So what are we going to do?" "I don't know." At this point, he started walking away, so I asked, "Do you have any ideas for what I can do?" Inaudible mumble. I followed him into the store, expecting him to make a call or open a troubleshooting manual or something. Instead, he just went back to his snack and kept saying, "I don't know what's wrong. It usually works." I had barely spoken to the tech throughout the failed programming process, and any exchange we did have was pleasant, so I knew I hadn't offended him. It just made no sense that he wasn't even interested in helping me get my fob working. I asked him to give me the fob and its packaging so I could pursue a refund from Syosset Lock Shop. He told me he didn't have the packaging. I asked how we even knew this was the correct fob, given that there was no packaging and nothing printed anywhere on the fob to indicate the model or manufacturer. It was then and there that I noticed the fob was looking a little too much like the counterfeits you can purchase on eBay or Amazon for $10-15. I ended up leaving the fob at the store, texting the store owner that the tech couldn't program it, and asking how they planned to handle the situation. No response after two days, so I followed up with "Any progress on my fob?" "Have to check" was the reply. No response for a full day. "Did you check?" was my next message. "The techs have been out all day so I haven't been able to talk to them about it." Three days later, "Any progress?" "He (the tech) told me he's gonna be working on everything tomorrow and updating me." Nine days later, with no response. We had an emergency with our Thule snowboarding racks and had lost the key a day before a big trip we were taking. In a panic, we called Syosset locksmith and they asked us to send them a picture of our Thule rack to see if they could make a key. They said they'd get back right away, but then didn't. I called an hour or so later to check in and a guy that worked there said, "Yeah I saw your email. We can't do it". To my response I said, "And you didn't think to let me know?". Terrible service. My boyfriend proceeded to bring it in to the store to ask if they could at least open it and pick the lock. The guy at the store wouldn't give my boyfriend the time of day and said it would take too long and he wasn't willing to do it. So, my boyfriend said no problem and took it to another guy in Hicksville called LI Locksmith. They were able to look up the Thule lock in his system and had two keys made in under two minutes! How could LI Locksmith do this so easily, but it was so difficult for Syosset Locksmith to accomplish (or even take the time to look or try)?? Went in looking for a door knocker to replace a non-working bell. Good enough selection, price was acceptable to us, ordered it and pulled out my credit card to pay for it. At that point, we were informed that there is a 3% surcharge for using a credit card. No indication of that displayed anywhere in the store. It us 2019, everybody pays for everything by credit card. I just felt this was not an honorable, up front way of doing business. Bottom line - will never do business with them again. read more

They were open when I called at 8 a.m. and were able to use the code from the cracked key to get the information to cut a new key and made me a spare while I was there. Excellent & reliable service. My family and I have used them for years. They did a beautiful job installing a new deadbolt lock to my apartment door. We also went to them to get copies of smaller-sized mailbox and garage door keys we needed, because the key-making machines at Home Depot just couldn't copy them correctly. Mitch and Carl were great - I walked in today with my 15 y.o. cars' ignition cylinder holder and base in my hand - key no longer turned, so removing the cylinder from the holder wasn't an option - and they looked at the key condition and recommended I pay them to get the original OEM code (involves a 3rd-party service) and they'd make a copy ... no guarantee, but they were sure it'd fix it. I deal with a lot of professionals, and I could see they were truly confident. It'd take up to an hour, and was nearly closing time, so they thought it might not happen until tomorrow. But they called me 17 minutes before closing and gave me the option to come in, and 10-12 minutes later I left with 3 working keys. After reassembling and buttoning everything back up at home, the car is now perfect. I also _watched_ them handle a customer who was seeking a home door lock with a certain "look," and thought a bit of mix/matching of pieces on display would do it. Carl worked with her, found it all ... and then she said she wanted 8 sets, and maybe express shipment? They advised not doing the express, (because due to COVID it wouldn't speed it up much anyway) and while the price (well over $2,000) astounds me, she obviously had it, but more importantly, their treatment of my issue - at 1/10th the price - was just as attentive, professional, and warm. Wonderful experience. Great local business. We had a problem with our front door mortise lock. Dave came with a mask although he has been vaccinated and asked if we wanted him to use it. We did. No problem. He diagnosed the problem very quickly and figured out how to fix it easily without having to rebuild it. Was very pleased that he cleaned up after himself without being asked. Highly recommend him to anyone with a lock repair issue. As for paying by credit card, lots of businesses now ask customers to pay the credit card processing fee charged to them by the credit card company. We were given the option of paying by check, which we did. I am very grateful that this local business survived Covid. If they need to pass on this fee to help them survive, I am happy to pay it. read more

Steve the owner personally cut my extra set of keys for all our cars and they are the special security type. He also made transponders (remotes) for the cars too. Saved me a trip to 2 different auto dealers! I wanted to replaced all the door knobs in my house with something other then home depot or lowes limited choice and midline quality. Worst service I've ever received , called them and asked for an appointment to change all my locks. They said they will call me back to let me know the time and date. Instead they call me back and tell me there outside my door. I am rushing out of work to get there and they call stating the guy left. I explain the situation and they send him back. The guy that shows up at my house calls me with a nasty attitude and starts yelling at me. I told him I am almost there what's your problem , he hangs up in my face. I pull up to my house and ask him, what his problem is and explain that his office made a mistake , he starts going off on me and jumps in his car and says I don't get paid to waste my time. I'm in the costumer service industry and I would never speak to someone like this. They just lost my business and hopefully anyone else's that has to deal with that jerk! I was told the person would be at my home between 1 and 4 "after their lunch." They called me but I missed the call but called back and they said their service technician just went to lunch (!) and they would be there when he returned. I asked to reschedule the following week because of a meeting at 4PM which they knew of when I made the appointment. They said they were booked solid the next week and said I should contact another lock company. I am sure if I asked for an appointment in the next two weeks, that they said they would be busy then too. I get it. Not a big enough job. The Syosset Lock Shop replaced my kitchen door lock a number of years ago, has made duplicate keys for me on many occasions, and today replaced a side door lock. First and foremost they do quality work. Secondly, they work quickly. And thirdly (or should this be first?), they are honest. I'd call them expensive, but worth it. For the waste of time and money at Home Depot with faulty duplicate keys, and handiman installations of locks that end up sticking and either locking you out or not locking at all, it's just better to go with the pros - at least THESE pros. Today the gentleman who replaced my lock took about 15 minutes. During that time he had to correct the frame of the door so that the lock would work properly. Before he left, he had me use the key to be sure it worked without difficulty. He was also very friendly. I never want to pay for a locksmith - would always prefer to have it done more cheaply. But I've found it's worth it to hire the Syosset Lock Shop. If I get keys made by them, I know they'll work; when a new door lock is installed, I'll never have trouble with it. I trust these guys! I used the Internet to search a couple of nearby towns and the keyword "locksmith". A lot of listings (not fully built out Websites) came up. Then I found Syosset Lock Shop's Website. I looked around his Website and found useful information. Their Website has a link to a Federal Trade Commission page, which provides insightful advice on how to choose a legitimate locksmith. I called Syosset Lock Shop and explained my situation to Steve. He quoted me a price and warned me about being lured by $20 or $40 offers on the Internet. After a while, I decided to hire his company. Steve told me the name of the technician he would be dispatching: Frank. As promised, 15 minutes later, a technician appeared in a vehicle with the company name prominently displayed all over the vehicle. The technician was in uniform and the uniform had his name on it. Frank took out lots of professional tools and greeted me. He asked me for identification to verify that I live at this address. Before he began work, he advised me of the different outcome scenarios, just in case. After a minute, Frank was successful with his work. Frank wrote up the bill for exactly the amount Steve quoted me over the phone. I thanked Frank and called Steve to complement his business and Frank. Syosset Lock Shop is certainly a reputable business. I was a happy customer because they did everything a legitimate locksmith business should do. They were able to replace the casing to something much more durable, and to also cut me a spare non-remote key that will start my car and open the doors that I can use as a spare. With all the recent break-ins and crime around the Syosset area, i'm amazed there are not more locksmiths around, however - If you are looking for quality service, Syosset lock shop is the number one locksmith to go to! They are friendly, diligent, and hard-working to make sure your security needs are met.
