Today Nyhavn is a major tourist destination for its colorful houses, boat tours along the canal, historic ships, and dining in restaurants. My husband and I briefly visited Nyhavn when we were on vacation. I enjoyed seeing the historic houses and boats along the water. If I had had more time, I bet that a boat ride and a restaurant meal would have been lovely.

It is decorated with various aquatic plants and in the basin, frogs spewing water. The three storks are ready to take flight. The fountain was a present to Crown Prince Frederik (later King Frederik VIII) and Crown Prince Louise for their silver wedding anniversary in 1894. There are a number of traditions that happen here including recent high school graduates taking a swim in the fountain. When I was here, something that looked like a bachelorette party had a blindfolded woman using a fish net to pick up plastic balls that were floating in the fountain. It was odd. Maybe you'll luck out and see something similar. The Amagertorv is a busy plaza, full of tourists. Watch out for pickpockets!

And shout out to the true Danish snack and beverage clerk who charged me for three espresso drinks but the. I wandered off with just one, grumbling silently to myself about an $18 coffee. She then left the counter moments later and walked 50 yards over to seated me and asked me in that blessed Danish tongue whether I wanted the other two coffees she made or did I just want the credit! thank God, maybe for the first time since my arrival two days ago, Dane responded to my Danish speaking Danish! Ah most look at me and figure I look like an American so they ignore me when I speak Danish and they just speak English. Kind and sweetly concerned, she made my day's wage slavery working on a Sunday all that much more bearable! What a modern marvel the structure is too!!

The open space has a calm atmosphere, with a small garden in the middle and majestic historic buildings surrounding it, including the Royal Danish Theatre, Hotel D'Angleterre, and several high-end shops like Rolex. It's a convenient meeting point and a pleasant place to pause while exploring the city. There's even a small pub on the corner, perfect for an Aperol Spritz on a warm afternoon. They claim that this area is completely beyond the rules and the laws of Copenhagen. In some ways, that is pretty easy to see as the main street is lined with people selling weed and hash, which is still illegal in Denmark. Copenhagen is not Amsterdam. Though a bit sketchy, this city within a city is very well maintained. I am sure there is some other story going on here. ...One that we will never know. This being said, what you will find here is some of the best street art and graffiti that you will witness anywhere across Copenhagen. Of course, it is clearly stated all over the place, "No Photos." But, I'm guess that is more to keep the people dealing drugs safe and off the radar than anything else. One of the funny/interesting things I find about this location is that tour buses actually pull up to it. I don't know, maybe it's just me me, but if you are truly embracing an alternative lifestyle that all seems rather intrusive. Nonetheless, this is an interesting place. Even if all you do is look at the great street art, it is worth the visit.

This is quite simply one of the greatest department stores in the world. It specializes in home furnishings but has a floor devoted to clothing as well that is nothing special (that I saw). The sales staff here are high priests of home style, they are not even slightly snobbish but make no mistake, they are the real deal. You will not find a single "bargain" here, just furnishings you will treasure and admire your whole life.

In the interior of the castle, visitors may see Christian IV's bedchamber and other rooms, the Treasury with the Danish crown jewels, etcetera. I unfortunately did not have tickets to tour the inside of the castle, but based on online photos, I really wish that I had bought tickets so I could see the historic, fancy rooms. I did, however, spend much time walking around the exterior of the castle. The architecture looked gorgeous. Then I walked through the garden, for which I wrote a separate Yelp review, and then I saw the moat with fish and the drawbridge leading to the castle. I recommend that tourists visit this castle.

Grand, simple & elegant garden. The inside was just amazing from room after room, from one level to the next and you got to down into the jewel in the basement for the grand jewels plus others. Love it, and I think this is the best & my favorite I seem so far.
