Expertly made coffee in a small shop where it's unlikely you'll be able to sit down in at rush hour but which is around some of the best walks and Japanese eats in all of Paris. It's great place to get delicious caffeine kick after a mean bowl of Ramen (for lunch) at Kotteri Ramen Naritake for instance. I do wish they closed a bit later. read more

A great little surprise near the Lourve. I had been on the hunt for a small coffee house with small batch roasted beans while I was in Paris. The staff was nice and the coffee was pretty good (about 3-4 Euros for an espresso). I was pretty excited to also take a bag of beans home. Little did I know that I forgot to read the packaging and realized the beans were actually roasted in the UK, rather than France, so that was a bit disappointing... read more

I went with my husband on our trip to Paris, and made sure to check out this place bc my bff recommended it. I really really REALLY enjoyed my cup of coffee from here. The atmosphere in the Cafe is serious, too serious, the Barrista looks obsessed and cold and books about coffee adorn the wall. If you want a warm, fun, welcoming atmosphere this is not the place. The energy in the space is weird, the acoustics do not help in having a private conversation, the proximity to the bar makes everything uncomfortable. Ah and laptops not allowed. There is no wifi. It's all about being cool not your comfort as a customer. Ok then so maybe it's worth going in for a take-away coffee. Be warned that although the place offers quite good coffee for Paris Illy-standards for anyone accustomed to good Australlian inspired coffee this will taste rather blunt. Smooth entry, indifferent flavors, smooth finish. Nothing special, just OK. For the attitude you get the coffee better be awesome. What is great though are the olive fichelles and other baked goods, often baked or finished in premises. read more

I absolutely love this place. I have several places in Paris as a go to for good coffee which lets face it can be hard to find. Telescope is by far by favorite now. The stark yet homely interior made me feel instantly relaxed and the handsome moustached barista whipped me up a little piece of heaven flat white. The food options are a little sparse but what they do offer is of the upmost quality. For breakfast, thick slices of sourdough toast with jam and butter, yoghurt and by my opinion best Granola ever made by Emperor Norton ( I subconsciously just gave it a capital letter!). I will be going back time and time again when I am in Paris and can not recommend it enough. read more

I've seeked out the best cafes in New York, Paris and London and Telescope stands out as one of my favorites. the design and menu of Telescope are refreshingly minimal. Quality over quantity could be a mantra here that extends from the drink choices to the food options. They have basic cappuccinos for the average customer or single-origin kalita drips for the coffee geek. The staff/owners are extremely friendly and knowledgable about coffee, in addition to being kickass baristas. I witnessed one proprietor prepare 3 drinks at once (pourover, Capp, espresso shot) while engaged in conversation with customers the whole time. And did I mention they roast their own beans? BEST COFFEE IN PARIS! Seriously, I tried God knows how many places but Téléscope serves the best coffee in Paris. Period. Every cuppa is gooood, the smell in the place is like heaven, and every sip of your cuppa Joe is a delight. The espresso is awesome, and even a cappucino (woth a double espresso - order it that way - so freaking good!) is mindblowing. They sell some cakes, croissants, and muesli with yoghurt too but no real lunch dishes. But you should come here for the coffee - again and again :-) read more

Excellent service and a bit more of a roomy / comfy cafe environment than the other cramped espresso bars we had seemed out. Friendly staff, tasty drinks and cookies. I made it a personal goal to experience as many quality espresso bars in Paris as possible, and Telescope came in my top 3. English-language-friendly staff too, which seems common among the better espresso spots in town, but always important and appreciated for travelers! Feel free to consult the barista about a nearby eatery, as most of the places in the surrounding Japanese quarter can look the same on paper / through the window. This was our first stop in Paris. We had some cappuccinos, brownies, banana nut bread, and financiers. The baked goods were moist and rich, just awesome. Their espresso runs light, but the cappuccino just perfect. This place (not only because they have a terrarium as a centerpiece) reminds me of those quaint/rustic "hipster" cafes in Brooklyn, NY. Nothing wrong with that, as long as it doesn't attract [obnoxious] crowds large enough to have to play musical chairs before sitting down. read more

Telescope is a new breed of Paris coffee shop. Nicholas selects great beans that are properly roasted and everything is brewed to order. Baguette with Apricot -Rhubarb compote and butter was sublime. Simple, beautiful, and brilliant at their craft. A good friend of mine owns a cafe in San Francisco who recommended this spot. He actually visited here many years ago and became motivated to open his own because of his experience here. I can echo the sentiment (except me not actually opening a cafe). Not the best espresso I've had, but that's just personal preference and does not reflect on the staff or the ability to make great coffee. 4/5 For the coffee taste and execution. The macchiato was tasty. Ever so slightly on the bitter side but not too noticeable. 2/5 For the rude service. When we came in and were pondering the menu, the banister said "Just tell me what you want." We were happy he spoke english but that didn't sound very welcoming. Furthermore, I'm one of those coffee customers who likes cafe latte's with some form of sweetener (e.g. simple syrup). I asked if they had any syrups and the barista looked annoyed and said "Our focus here is on coffee. It is already doing a lot to prepare the coffee, the ice and the milk so no, we don't make syrups." Well sorry for my outlandish suggestion. I'm sorry I'm also not one of those people who like to drink ONLY the coffee itself. I appreciate good coffee but prefer it sweet. It would've been nicer if he just said "Sorry we don't have any syrups, but here is some sugar you can add to your drink." instead he made it sound like he was already bending over backwards to offer me a large cup, ice and milk with my order. The barista seemed pretentious I think Cafe Lomi has better service (also in english) and the flavor of their coffee is a bit better. read more

Espresso is good, even great. But the vibe -- why so unpleasant? One afternoon I was there, some American girl who gulped down a big cup of latte after lunch chatted loudly with the the man who must be the owner of this place about the quality of coffee in Paris. There is smugness, a sense of superiority among the clientele (some locals, many foreigners), as if someone imported the New York competitive espresso sensibility to Paris and planted it here. Good espresso is a relatively new phenomenon here, and I get the sense of excitement, but the vibe here is a bit too off-putting. read more

I've gone to this cafe many times over the last five years and loved their coffee, pastries, ambience-- all of it. I've introduced many friends to Télescope, had a number of professional meetings there, and always had a great, happy experience. Today I had one such meeting there, the cafe was less than half full, pleasant ambience. Just over halfway through our coffee, the owner came over to our table (there were two of us, both young women) and told us to keep our voices down. He said we were speaking "extremely loudly" and that he couldn't hear his clientele over our noise. It seems to me an inappropriate venue in which to complain at people who are enjoying themselves and having a polite conversation. I haven't been chastised in such a way since I was a child-- it was an upsetting and unpleasant experience. I will not being patronizing Télescope anymore, and won't hesitate to share my experience. read more
