It was so, so terrible it looked like my manicure was done by an 8 year old. The edges uneven and the side if the nails was missing polish. Really bag, bad, bad job. They take cash and give you a discount which is good for us customers but do they report all their earnings to the IRS? Most of all the management was rude trying to cover up and no apology. Acrylic nails OPI color and regular top coat $45 and took 1.5 hrs ish with an appointment. Super clean salon, no smells, very gentle and carefully done work. Loved it BUT after one week my pointer fingers lifted off and the top coat peeled off all my nails. Less than two weeks and the edges on most nails lifted and I need to redo them. I have been gettig my nails done with Tom for over 10 years. He is the cats meow when it come to this sort of thing. Tom is excellent at what he does and he wont take anyones ish. I actually respect him for it. I have come to the realization that if you speak to him about a problem, then he will try to fix it. I have had 1 problem in over 10 years and I know I didnt want to go elsewhere so I told him what I had a problem with and its hasnt happened again. He is very busy so I highly recommend an appointment. He is pricey but I wouldnt go cheap when it comes to nails. They have relocated to a newer location and the furniture (including the spa pedicures) are soooo comfortable. The bathroom is always clean and you always end up laughing with something funny he says or does. Also, they take their time to do a manicure or a pedicure or acrylics and I appreciate it. I'm a guy, so I just get a pedicure and buff. Anne is the best that I have come across. After one of her pedicures, my toenails are shining for weeks! It is a nice treat during the long winter months to relax and be pampered. The lower leg and foot massage are why I really go, I just wish it was longer, like an hour - I'm sure that she is glad it isn't. The reason for 3 stars is the overall decor and the fact that the family that works there end up talking to each other in Vietnamese while I'm having my services and there is usually a loud TV on a Vietnamese music video station. Kind of takes away from the experience a little. So, if you want a GREAT pedicure, for a very reasonable price, this is a good find. I first met Tina & John when I lived in Los Angeles back in the mid 80's.. they had a shop in Long Beach. When I returned home in 89 I had no idea they had moved to Boston (Mattapan) was the first location.. John continued to do my nails, until He and Tina opened in Rhode Island , also locations in Somerville and the Southend (Tremont Street) is the third location in the Southend. I had Kim for years, my twin (same birthday) she moved to Washington State, I was devastated, but Tom agreed to take me on.. Tom has been taking care of me every other week at 6 am.. (we started that) to all those who have caught on, now I can't sometimes get my time slot if I have to work or have something else going on.. He is that booked. My appointments are booked out for months in advance. Ann, and Ken are also both very good. They are all masters of their art.. I love them all.. I could never go anywhere else, not ever. Just like Winnie E., I've been a customer at T&J Nails for several years and just like her, I had a falling out with one of the employees (he no longer works there). Not the owner fortunately, but that wouldn't stop me from going back. I think they do the best work and I've been to a lot of nail salons. They don't skip any steps and you always come away satisfied. Yes, I admit, this isn't the place to go if you're looking for a Canyon Spa type manicure and pedicure experience, but for us urban dwellers, it's cool. John, one of the original owner's of T&J had left years ago (17 to be exact), but he's coming back to the South End salon to do nails again (not that he ever stopped, he was working at his salon in Rhode Island). I think Winnie E. should give T&J another chance, but have John take care of you - he's the master nail technician - and since he's just starting back in Boston, he'll need to build up his customer base again. And in the 20+ years that he's been doing my nails, I've never seen him argue with a customer. read more

Definitely the best acrylic work in Boston. The salon is not fancy but they are very clean. Joe gives the best pedicure ever. I've been to the fancy places and T&J can not be topped as far as the work they put in on your nails. My hands are constantly in water and I have gotten nail fungus from water getting under the acrylic. Never had lifting ever with T&J. My nails are always beautiful and I have acrylics that look natural. That's how good Joe is. It's all family that work there 3 brothers and 1 sister. They are all very nice and good at what they do. I'm telling you that pedicure. Mmmmmm. He turns my crusty soles to baby soft skin. He puts in work and is very meticulous. I have been going to T&J for YEARS (about 15+ years now) and although I live far (and many of their loyal customers do), and don't get to go very often, this is where I come when I need that extra special care for my feet, hands and soul. It's always a treat to come here. Ken is who my feet love the best, but Tom is for my hands and my soul. Ken is sweet, patient, meticulous (very, very detailed), soft-spoken and always caters to each client-- he may be busy, but will make room in his schedule for last-minute appointments. He is soft to the touch, but puts in the muscle where it counts (like on my dry/cracked heels). Tom is frank, loud, and HILARIOUS. No one does hands better than he does. But he is NOT going to take you last-minute; you have to be by appointment only. Although I've never had any thing done by Ann, I've seen her work and she keeps up with the boys. They all remember you, remember your stories, your kids, and they genuinely love to hear more! Every time I go, I'm chatting it up with them and other loyal customers...it's like visiting family each time. I've been with them from since their former location in the South End, to this one. They are clean, professional, but with a warm welcome and relaxed vibe (not uptight, by any means). Ultimately, they take pride in their work and it shows. On the pricier side (like, maybe you would expect champagne with that or that this would be on Newbury St.), but it is worth every penny. My pedicure lasts for weeks! I'd like to think the limited/out-dated reviews suggest that its a hidden gem. And with so many options to choose from across the state, maybe it is. My only complaint is that the parking in the area SUCKS. But trust me when I say, once you come to T&J, you won't want to go any where else. They ARE the high standard. If I go anywhere else, its because I'm too lazy to make the trek and will suck it up to get the average result. Terrible! My cuticles look like they were cut up! It was pricier than the nicer salon I usually go to and the manicure was awful. The man that did my nails tore apart the skin on one of my thumbs.
