**BAIT AND SWITCH ALERT** Waste of time. Please save yourself the inconvenience of coming down to this place. I came in asking for a refill around 3pm. They said they didn't have time for anything but a single color for refill right now or I could come back at 6:30PM if I wanted a design, someone could take me then. I wanted a design of some sort, asked if they had pictures of past work they have done but said no but if I show a picture their staff can free hand a design. So I said I would come back at 6:30pm so I could get a refill and design if I wanted as their business literally says "house of nails and nail designs". FALSE ADVERTISING. They called me and said I could come in earlier at 6 so I came in at 6 only to be waiting to be seated. Finally when I was seated at 6:20 they had a nail tech ask me what I wanted. I asked if they had cat eye they said no. Then I showed a picture of pink and nude nails and the nail tech she can't do it and she can't do designs only single colors. So I asked why did they give me a nail tech who can only do single colors when they told me to come back 3 hours later for someone who can do a design. They said there is no one available to do designs right now but I can do single colors. I didn't even show a design that was very intricate or detailed, I asked for cat eye but they said they don't do it. Cat eye is a polish you manipulate with a magnet, not difficult. So I said fine can you do chrome or show me other samples. So they gave me samples of polishes that had cat eye on it so literally they lied to me about not having it and being able to do it and offered it to me as a sample of something they can do. I asked if I can get this polish and they said no they can't do it. Why provide someone with samples of nails that you cannot do? I got a bad feeling they didn't care about me as a customer, didn't even try to rectify the situation and said I can get a single color because that's only what they can do. Now I felt lied to and mislead. What a waste of time. All this business wants is to have you sit in their chair so they make a profit and provide you low quality work. They won't tell you until you're sitting in the chair maybe with the nails halfway done if you make it that far that they can't do your nails the way they promised or you asked for. False advertising. What a bait and switch. Why waste my time telling me to come three hours later so you can do the design when you can just say you don't have someone available to do designs in the first place. I could've found another nail salon during that time frame who would have accommodated me and not lied. By this point it was 6:40 and most nail salons in the area were closing. Unless you went boring plain single color mediocre nails with nail technicians that are incapable of anything but a single wash of color, please save yourself some time and go somewhere else with technicians that are experienced and honest. read more

A few days back I went to the House of Nails to get my nails done. I wasn't always a fan of getting my nails down due to the fact usually it always ruins my nail plate after when I take them off. But I did anyways so my could enjoy myself to get beautiful looking nails. I've given this place many chances because it's conveniently located near me but the experience just got worse at each appointment. I got mani/pedis every time. On more than on occasion, the nail tech has disappeared for 20+ min in the middle of my service leaving me sitting there wondering where the hell he went only to figure out he took a casual smoke break with his coworker.... in the middle of my service - not while my nails are drying, or when waiting for my nails to soak. He returned each time reeking of cigarettes and then proceeded to hack up a lung for the remainder of my appointment, mask below his chin and disappearing more times to go have a coughing fit in the bathroom. Not only is it extremely unprofessional and gross, it's rude. This has happened on multiple occasions. If that isn't enough to deter you from coming here, their basic pedicures are tragic. During my last appointment, the guy used a fucking NAIL BUFFER to "scrub" my feet/heels/ankles with no soap. A nail buffer. Obviously that did absolutely nothing. He was at least kind enough to ask me if he was hurting me every 5 mins, which he was. Then we have my most recent manicure. He made me bleed on 3 different nails and when he finally noticed he apologized for my "boo boo" and didn't put anything on it to stop it from bleeding. He just wiped away the blood with his hand and continued to work with the same tools. The dip has lasted not even a week, multiple nails have cracked and some even chipped fully off. After my last experience, I will never return even if I'm in a pinch. If you want a good service, drive the extra 10 min to Southie and go to Dluxe. read more

So for my gf birthday i took her to House of Nails, 9/25/21 based on the recommendation of my niece Yari who goes there all the time. I have to say the place is very clean and sanitized. Everyone was wearing face masks. I can see employees cleaning everything after a customer was done. Anyways, my gf loved the way her Pedi was done, she said that (forgot her name) was very gentle cutting her nails and cuticles, massage etc. Also for her Manicure (Katy) was great and she loved how her nails came out. I tried this place for an entire year and had too many bad experiences to keep coming back unfortunately. Almost on every occasion that I've come here, the tech seems very behind and very rushed, and they will take out a dirty plastic red bowl and put acetone in it, then try to have me soak my fingers in the bowl of acetone to remove my prior gel/dip from my nails. This is completely insane. You should NOT soak your hands in a bowl of acetone, and I highly suggest you tell them to wrap your nails with the cotton and foil instead (like they should already be doing) if they try to get you to soak your nails in the bowl. It saves them more time to have you do it that way than the correct way of product removal, and it is unacceptable. Only stars are for Kathy, she does a nice job on your manicure and is sweet, but I continually notice that tools are taken from random drawers and are clearly not cleaned. Overall the quality of manicure is too inconsistent, and the lack of salon hygiene is too much of a concern for this be worth spending money on anymore. read more

Service here was fine and went in open minded even tho my friends said their nails didn't last. I got a regular pedicure and a gel French manicure and both were very much below average. Didn't clean under nails and didn't ask me want shape I wanted for my manicure. The quality just wasn't there and I won't be going back. I went here for the first time last week for a pedicure - The place is huge inside with at least 8 massaging chair set ups for pedicures - the atmosphere was friendly, airy, nice decor, real flowers planted inside - I was lucky enough to get Tina #1 to provide my pedicure. she was nice but not chatty, and I appreciat that because I just like to relax and veg out when I'm getting a pedicure. she gave a fabulous massage to my feet and calves - I love that! my pedicure looks wonderful and I have received many compliments - only 20 dollars plus tip! I'll be back! ps. you can get any kind of waxing here as well, and massage is also provided. (I didn't give 5 stars only because there is street only parking - it must be hard to find a parking place on the weekend) read more

One of the worst places for visitors or first timers. Please DO NOT give them service. I did not like the service nor the nails. I was recommended by friend to this place for their dip service. Unfortunately I was disappointed. I showed her what I wanted which is the second picture. And she had trouble doing it the entire time. She cutt me twice and while she was doing my nails I questioned her several times but her response was "it's not finished". When she was done she told me it was 55 dollars which was not the original price. I was so upset. I paid and left. But as I got closer to my car I started crying because I was frustrated with the result and myself for paying. I called the nail salon because I wanted a refund or have them resolve my issue. They did not want to refund me and suggested if I wanted a color change they'd charge me $17!! read more

There is a communication problem at this salon. I walk in, and I am greeted by a very nice lady. I ask how much for a gel mani OR to do gel polish on nails. FYI, It's $27 for the manicure and $20 for the polish itself. I asked how much for gel on toes and she tells me $25. I say okay. She tells me take a seat in one of the oversized seats and a man asks what color polish for the toes. I say, white - at this time I and still deciding my nail color. While I am deciding my nail color I see the man is painting my toes and he gets through all ten when I say "is this gel" he tells me I never said I wanted gel... I'm thinking to myself, we never spoke, he never confirmed. I never confirmed. He then apologizes and take off the white polish and goes to get gel. I had only told the lady what I wanted and the man what color. He paints my toes with gel, but it was a little sloppy. I think he was rushing as I told him I had a flight to catch, hence why I needed gel and my toes were already painted with white polish. They just looked raggedy. The man does an OKAY job and then he does my fingers in a pink. We chat, he's nice, but as I sit there I see a paper, handwritten note on the wall saying "cash only" I say that I don't have cash, he says they have an atm. At this time I don't have an atm card because there was fraudulent activity on my card, so I only have a debit card. I asked my boyfriend to come and pay for me and he did. Then the guy told me I was being charged 52, but it was actually $45 because I got the 20$ gel polish on fingers and $25 gel polish on my toes. Maybe they can't do math, or maybe they were trying to scam me because the nail salon doesn't even list the prices I'm mentioning. So all that to say, they can't communicate. The women should have told me when I first walked in "sorry, cash only" not at the very end when I see a white note on a white wall and this was the ONLY SIGN. I also think the nail tech should have confirmed with me befor he started polishing my nails. My polish and nails have already started to chip and my toes are stained from wearing black boots with no socks. I don't know if it's my fault or a bad nail shop, but the nail tech (male) was friendly and apologetic for messing up. I will not return. read more

So disappointed. Needed a quick pedi so I decided to come here because it was close to my house. Let me just say, big mistake. I work at a very high end nail salon and I know when a nail place isn't following health procedures. Ok let me list the many signs that I ignored.. 1. They do NOT use tub liners 2. They don't even bother scrubbing the tub after every use 3. They use this scrub for your feet and when they're done they throw it into the tub where you SOAK your feet 4. They reuse their filers and buffers Ok so on top of all the things I just listed, the lady who did my pedi topped it off by ripping apart my toe and making it bleed profusely. Also, my pedicure was rushed and I knew because the lady spoke Vietnamese and said she had an appointment coming in soon right after me. Honestly, I didn't even bother wasting my breath to complain because I was just so mad at myself for wasting my time and money here. I have been going to this place for yearssss my go to nail tech has been Ben for a long time, however today i had such a horrible experience that i felt the need to post this review. As a long & loyal customer i am even more upset that i have to do this kind of review bc i never do them. I went for a refill today, & everything was going awesome until he started filing my nails. I have stilletto style nails (claws) & i told him i wanted them a but shorter. This was my third refill with the stillettos and i never had this problem. He was filing my nails way to hard, it felt Like one of my acrylic was about to come off because of how hard he was filing. But to top it off, he filed my pinky so rough to the point where he cut me & i have a open wound that is very sensitive and even washing my hands hurts like hell. I work with my hands, im a makeup artist so open wounds on my fingers is a huge concern for me. On top of that, i have 3 other cuts on other fingers, one of them being a little open as well. I didn't say anything during the service bc i was so upset & didn't want to say or do something i would regret so i kept my cool and went through with all if it even though i was in alot of pain, and wanted it to be over with so i could never come back. When it was over, i payed and left. I called on my way home and asked to speak to the owner & told her what had happened. She asked me to come back so she could see my fingers, & i came back later that evening, she looked at my fingers and said that he had told her it was my pinky mainly & she instantly said sorry & that if i had benzoyl peroxide to use it, and that it seemed like it was drying so i should be good. She also said that she was worried it was deeper and was relieved it was deeper (it was pretty deep) she said she would recompensate me with a gift certificate & i kindly declined and explained i wouldn't be coming back, she insisted & gave me the certificate.... a 15$ certificate for a service i payed 45$ !!!! Im sorry but that was the final straw, even though i had my mind made up i wasn't going back. Anyone still going here i hope you dont have this experience. I hate to leave a bad review here, I got my very first full set here 17 years ago, but that was a different time. Lately, I have felt very unwelcome, and have felt disrespected as a customer, but, no more. I will never darken this establishments door stop ever again. You walk in, no one acknowledges you, then basically tells you to get out, very embarrassing. I can just go to Newbury street if I wanted that type of treatment. I guess I'm the definition of crazy, because I've been going to this place for five years and always give them the benefit of the doubt: they were busy, I didn't have an appointment, something. But the truth is, this place is terrible. I have never been treated like a priority here. I have always felt like I was inconveniencing them. Examples: if I ask how long the wait will be they always say "ten minutes". It is NEVER ten minutes. Once I waited 45 minutes because I really needed my nails done and finally just left. Sometimes it will be ten minutes, but they'll sit you at a table or pedi chair and wait another ten minutes (or more). Or they'll begin your mani or pedi for five minutes and they will just leave you waiting again. The last time I went in, Brenda was nearly done with my gel manicure when her appointment came in. On one hand, she shined the finish nails and gave a small massage. On the other...nothing. She just said I was finished. Today, the man doing my nails put lotion on my hands (way too much) but did NO massage at all. I took a paper towel and wiped my hands off as he ran my credit card. When I go for a manicure, it is a treat. You go to a salon to be pampered, to feel special, to feel beautiful. You will not be pampered here. You will not be treated special. And they will insult you. Brenda is the worst. (Which is too bad, since she is the most talented esthetician there.) She has told me I have terrible eyebrows (they are thin because I have thin hair.) She has made fun of my tiny nail beds. She made a huge deal out of how hard it is to paint them. All of them will go on and on about you if you bite your nails (I have anxiety and recently quit smoking...and that is none of their business and not their place to give me a hard time about it). This is awful customer service. And as I said, I have been going there for FIVE YEARS. Yet, every time I go in, they treat me like they've never seen me before. They don't know my name. This woman is clearly making stuff up since she doesn't even know her name. Lena is an amazing manicurist has always been nothing but professional in this industry. I have been seeing her for the past two years and has always been one of the best manicurists House of Nails has next to the mastermind guy manicurist Ben . I own and operate two different businesses and I'm a full time grad-student so my schedule can be extremely crazy at times and I've had to cancel last minute, switch my days, and Lena has been understanding and professional. Then had the audacity to ask Lena to do your nails after causing a scene like like. Are you kidding me a lil Crazy are we? You come in like a rabid dog yelling, causing a scene. I have been a customer for years. I can honestly say the service and management are getting worse !!! What business owner allows their employees to walk into work 20-30 minutes late when they have scheduled customers waiting ? Horrible customer service. Then said employee takes her time not even acknowledging the client. Ahh but it gets worse. She begins a pedicure and placed a phone call to a friend and continues conversation for 20 minutes. I really want to like this place because of the convenient location. However, I always leave disappointed. I needed to get my eyebrows done (really needed) and I went there hoping for a better experience. Just like other times, they literally spend two minutes in quick waxing and barely tweezing. I don't want thin brows, but I definitely don't want to give 12 bucks for barely touched brows which i could have achieved at home for free. The excuse is that she thinks this way looked "more natural." If I want natural, I wouldn't be going to get my brows done! And of course I wasn't going to let her back into my brows when she offered, because who knows if it would have ended worse. This makes me think twice about spending my money on something like a mani or pedi there. Maybe it will be a half done job as well.
