I came here to get a bridesmaid dress hemmed and had a terrible experience. When I tried on the dress, she marked it for alterations and quoted $25 for the straps and $65 for the length. I was shocked at the price, but didn't leave because she had already marked the dress. When I picked it up, she charged me $103, which I believed was higher than the quote, but I didn't realize until after I left. The staff was rude, unprofessional, and the pricing was completely overpriced. I would not recommend this place. Go elsewhere for better service and fair pricing. read more

I needed a dress hemmed and got some really prompt, helpful customer service on the phone and via Yelp, so I felt good about taking my business here. When I arrived to drop off the dress, I was given a card to come back on a specific date. When I arrived on the afternoon of the date, I was asked if I could "shop around" while they hem the dress and that it would take an extra half hour. They did a fine job, but it made me wonder why I paid $80. I felt very disappointed that it was not ready on the promised date. read more

Three shirts to be tailored. On 18March. I have a stub that says to pick up next week on the 24th. I called and they weren't ready then I called the beginning of April and was told to pick them up Friday or Saturday the seventh or the eighth. I show up on Friday at 4:30 30 minutes before closing and they're still not ready. Almost 3 weeks and no communication from them to me only me communicating with them. I dropped off several pairs of pants that needed hemming up. Had a few holes to patch & one pair that needed major alteration. I was given an ETA of a week. One week later they were ready for pick up. So expectation setting was handled very well. The work was neat & tidy. Pants fit as hoped, so well done. Price was reasonable for the quality & amount of work done. The above amounts to a 3 or 4 star experience. The extra stars are for the bright & very friendly personality of the owner who made the whole transaction not only business, but also fun. It takes a special kind of person to work day-in-day-out in a pretty small confined space and still remain upbeat, positive, and friendly. This lady is one such person. I dropped off a brand new bridesmaids dress. When I picked it up a lot of work was done to it, the dress had several different stains. I mentioned there were no stains when I left the dress, two weeks later , I have to figure out how to get the stains out on my own. the wedding is in a week. The employee said she didn't pay attention to anything else but the hems. I asked for a discount & received one . My family had been going to this place for years. Being vertically challenged, I've had to seek out seamstresses my entire life. Back in Michigan, I had the fortune of working with two different fashion designers (not high fashion) both who did tailoring on the side and with two very adept seamstresses, so I have worked with people who know how to design and construct clothes, and make them fit proportionally to the individual's size and shape. I would have stayed with each one of them, but I moved away from the city of the first. Then second one retired. The third one moved away from Michigan, and then I moved here saying good-bye to the fourth. Since moving to Albuquerque, I've worked with Theresa a few times. She's shortened new pants that were too long. She's fixed clothes I've loved which were falling a part thus preventing them from having to go to Goodwill prematurely. I bought a long formal dress I adored, but it was way too big, and she fitted it to my smaller frame, and it fits really well now and hasn't lost its original charm or sense of proportion. She definitely knows what she's doing. And she's always had my clothes ready when she said she would have them. But I haven't asked her to do rush orders, and I hope I never have to, and continue to plan ahead of time. Also, I haven't had the opportunity to ask her if she could design something for me, but I bet she would do well with such a project. I had no idea she other people working for her, though see from other reviews that she had hired others to help her. The last time I worked with her was about six months ago. Regarding that one negative review, I'm guessing she may have gotten overwhelmed more than she was used to, and was working all by herself. It sounds like she's remedied the problem. Fast response to my request for a quote. That was just the beginning of a very good experience. I had some clothing that needed new buttons and the owner listened to my concerns and was very courteous to me. She even sewed little reinforcer buttons on the reverse side of the buttons to prevent them from loosening or coming undone. Something that you would get with a very expensive coat. The tailor was kind enough to suggest that it would not be worth the expense to fix the first item: a pair of linen shorts that are falling apart in multiple places. Her honesty was deeply appreciated. As for the second item, the tailor was so generous that she fixed the lining of my pocket, free of charge. I am incredibly grateful and intend to go back to this place of business, even if I find a place that is closer in town. Came to T&T to get two dress pants hemmed for the same length (3/4) and came out with two different lengths (one was Capri and the other was ankle). The capri was obviously much shorter than I had wanted so I asked for it to be undone not knowing she would charge me 7 dollars to do so??? I could've done that myself had she communicated that BEFORE undoing it. No where on their menu does it say they charge for undoing their own work. Taking my business elsewhere because clearly they don't care to communicate charges or at least provide decent customer service. read more

I'm pregnant and the dress was a stretchy fabric so it was a little trickier than an average hem, but T&T were amazing and got it done in time for a really reasonable price. Regrettably my experience with this place has not been as good as others. Our first experience was my husbands work uniforms. He was happy with her work. The second experience was also an item of my husbands. He wanted parts of it fixed and parts reinforced. She didn't do the reinforcing. When I questioned her she only kept repeating "it didn't need to be done". It didn't seem to matter that he wanted it done and they had agreed upon her doing it. Recently I needed a dress altered. So I figured I try her again. She stated that she'd be adding about 2 inches of elastic to the back line. 1 inch near each shoulder. She was late getting it to me (the day of the event) and when I picked it up the entire back line of the dress was elastic. From shoulder to shoulder. It looked like a high school home ec class project. I just made the most of it because I had to wear it that night. But I won't go back again. read more

In my opinion good tailoring is closer to art than it is to trade. A tailor that takes pride in their craft can transform a $50.00 business shirt into looking like a $300.00 custom-made shirt...and make you feel like a million bucks to boot. On the other hand, a tailor without the same skill, can quickly turn an opportunistic venture into one of wasteful regret. I have been going to T&T Tailoring for over a year now. In that time, I have been able to transform many mass produced, ill fitting clothes into custom form fitting and up-to-date, trendy pieces of clothing. Because I have witnessed great tailoring at work over the past year, I have decided to take more expensive pieces of clothing, including my suits, to T&T Tailoring for tweaks. As of yet, I have not been disappointed with the work performed. However, I will say (as some of the reviewers have stated) that on one or two occasions, my items have not been ready on the date agreed upon. This has been remedied by calling ahead a day or two prior to my pick up date. I don't know the intricacies of a tailoring business, but I could only assume that it's not as easy as one might think. A little leniency can be justified in my book. Bottom line: T&T Tailoring does an excellent job with the service they are providing to the public - tailoring and alternations. If you understand this, you will be happy with the finished product. Plus, you just might end up looking (or, at least, feeling) like a million bucks! read more

Updated comments: Since my first Yelp entry, I used T & T Tailoring for pants, shirts, sport coats, vests and overall, I found Tuyen (spelling?), the owner, to be a great tailor. Not sure about her skills with suits because I haven't taken any to her, but sport coats were tailored well. Her pricing was reasonable and she will do just what you instruct her to do, which I think is essential. Many people expect tailors to know their style, but this can result in unhappy results. Sure, good tailors can keep you from doing something that will damage the clothes or that will look horrible. However, short of those extremes, you must know your own wants and then communicate them clearly (bring pictures of what you like!). That's my opinion. Men can't really buy designs driven by good fit in Abq. (think brands on Mr. Porter.com, J. Crew Liquor Store, Varvatos, Armani, etc.), plus, I am kind of slim and most clothes here are huge in girth, so I buy what I can, and get everything tailored to a custom fit. At any rate, I was happy with tailoring, especially pants - not hemming either - pant leg and seat slimming, really a rebuild of two new pairs of Brooks Brothers slacks. The cut was too stodgy and I had her slim them down for a more modern look and she did a great job. My other pieces didn't require such "technical' alterations, but all of the work was pretty good and when it wasn't, she did adjustments no charge. I'm not saying T & T is perfect, but among tailors in this town, she does excellent work. Note on timeliness: I noticed one comment that was pretty harsh, mainly due to a delay in getting some suits tailored. It was harsh because, although I empathized with the comment, the individual apparently wrote it before the suits were finished, and never followed up regarding the quality of work. In the past, Tuyen did all the work herself, both fittings and the taiiloring, often with her kids there (impressive really!). Like others, I too experienced delays and it could be dissapointing. However, once she did rush some clothes I needed for a trip, and got them done in a few days. Since then though, she hired some seamstresses and has really improved her turnaround time. Last month, she took in the sides of a few Lacoste polo shirts. Stores in Abq don't sell these (I got them in Barcelona, but you can buy them larger towns like Denver too), so I didn't want them destroyed. Based on past work, I wasn't too worried, and was pleased to find that they were ready to go when I came to pick them up, and they fit like they were made for me. read more

I was looking for a tailor and found high reviews for T&T. For $23.54 they were able to repair 4 shirts that I can now wear again that I spent over $200.00 on. The work was better than I could have imagined specially because I ripped the elbows on all the work shirts. Even though it's not perfect I feel they did the best work they could do as the elbows were trashed. On the major plus side I can use the shirts again instead of throwing them in the trash! I've had one piece of clothing tailored-- a pair of pants that were too long. The friendliness of the service wasn't great but it wasn't bad. When I dropped off the pants, I tried them on, the tailor marked where they needed to be hemmed to and I went on my way expecting to pick them up a week later when they said the pants would be ready. The lady said I could pay at drop off or at pick up and that they would prefer cash. I forgot about them for a while after they were ready and I received a call reminder one week and a text reminder the next week which I appreciated.
