    The amazing lime green tea
    Coty S.

I believe there are three or more locations of Tbaar on 8th Avenue, so it is hard to miss if you are in the area. I hope that they expand soon to Manhattan. The employees are really nice, and they have been well staffed all the times that I have been. Your tea is usually ready within seconds. Check the seasonal specials, make sure that you get a deal on your Birthday or if you have a student ID card, and also get a frequent buyer card. Their teas are so delicious because they are natural tasting and not very sweet. Some other places make teas too sweet for my liking, but Tbaar uses strong brewed tea as well as natural flavors to give a more unique taste. I am giving them five stars because everytime I have gotten tea here, it has been exceptional. The base is usually red and jasmine green tea. There are so many flavors that I want to try. So far, my favorite has been their new Lime Green Tea, with fresh squeezed limes and I like to add fruit jelly. I also want to try their red bean and pistachio flavors. They do not yet have one of my favorite flavors; grapefruit. The locations are counter ordering with no seating. I wish there were more sit-down bubble tea houses in the area that also serve snacks...not just bakeries with lame powder teas.

They're extremely busy today since it's hot out so I wouldn't blame them for being somewhat unorganized. One thing they can definitely do is try to establish a line for ordering. A lady tried to cut in front of me. Ruuude. I ordered a medium iced oolong tea with half sugar and it was great. I paid $2.50 for it, which is actually a little expensive, but still worth it. Despite them being busy, my order came out in a good amount of time - 3-5 minutes maybe? I love the oolong tea!

This place has to have the worst customer service possible. I'd rather walk the distance & go to the further one on 61st street.

Best drinks so far, I like the fact that they offer fresh fruit drinks. Healthier trends are hitting the public, they are adapting.

Not comparable to Kung Fu tea but cheaper in price. They give you extra black bubbles and their regular milk tea taste really good.

I wish they have lychee jelly like Quickly. But besides that, I'm ok with going here for a convenient fruity drink nearby my place.

They open at 5 pm for dinner and I came to wait at 4:50 pm. I was able to walk-in right away and get seated. SM in the chicken dish stands for soy milk and it was definitely something I was able to taste. The portion size was pretty decent but I did had two issues with the dish. The dish was more of a Sichuan/Mala type of seasoning rather than something you expect to see from Taiwanese fried chicken. I did wish they use that kind of seasoning instead. With such a big portion of chicken, I also wish they had more of a variety of dark and white meat, as I had mostly white. I also ordered their minced pork over rice and their beef noodle soups - two classic Taiwanese dishes. I actually ended up enjoying Wenwen's take on the two dishes more than the chicken! They were also known for their fried Tangyuan desserts and that was something I enjoyed as well!

The tables are crammed together very closely, so this is not a place for intimate conversations. Noise level is looooud, especially on the main floor. If you want a bit more quiet, ask to be seated in the basement area, which feels isolated, but at least your ears will thank you. Food was okay. Nothing stood out to us and we tried over ten menu items. Most dishes are spicy, so clarify how much spice you can handle, because I burned my mouth on practically every dish we got. Taiwanese Pork Jowl was the best dish out of everything we ordered--this I would get again. Recommend. Handmade Chili Oil Wontons were just okay. Sacha Hot Honey Popcorn Chicken was too spicy and the breading was hard as a rock. Too much breading, too little chicken. Pickled Cucumber Salad was a let down. Skip. Peashoots w/ Tofu Skin was dissapointing and watered down. No taste. FenZheng Pork--Spare Ribs, Kabocha Squash, Tianmianjiang was the worst dish we've ever had at a restaurant. Tasted like bland baby food. So horrible. Steamed squash and congealed, bland broilled ribs with pieces of cartillege--inedible. How can a dish be so repulsive? Drinks were a disappointing--The Shyboy tasted like rocket fuel--wooow, what a rough drink. Soyprise Punch tasted too sour and too sweet and too weak simultaneously. Skip those two drinks.

The noodles were my favorite dish - hearty and flavorful, with a pleasant texture and plenty of aromatic flavor. The dumplings were pan fried, with a well seasoned filling and slightly crispy texture. The century egg and tofu was nice, with strong flavors from the egg balancing against the mild tofu. And the mochi was a nice and simple sweet end to the meal. My partner also enjoyed the la rou fan. The bill came to $72 after tax and tip, which is pretty reasonable for the huge quantity of food (we definitely ordered too much). For sure worth a try.

On more than one visit, the beef contained large amounts of sinew and cartilage that were not properly rendered. This isn't just a texture preference -- it's connective tissue that would normally break down if the meat were braised long enough. I've attached a photo showing what was served. The first time this happened, I mentioned it to the staff, and they agreed the meat quality was poor and told me management had instructed them to serve it anyway. The next couple of visits were much better, so I assumed the issue had been addressed. However, on my most recent visit, the same problem returned. When I raised it again, the woman at the front told me that this was "edible for all of us in the back" and suggested it was a personal issue rather than a preparation or quality problem. I'm not expecting premium cuts, but when a dish relies on long-braised beef, excessive cartilage and sinew shouldn't be the norm -- especially when staff themselves have acknowledged the issue in the past. Consistency and how feedback is handled really matter, and unfortunately this experience left me hesitant to order the dish again.

The staff greeted us right away and shared a little about what makes this place and the food so special. We had a pre-planned menu that was so good! And so much food! The flavors on everything continued to amaze the table. I could rant about the chicken, but I'll just put a plug in for the cheddar cornbread! Get it!! The classic sando was pretty big and I really enjoyed how the crunchy chicken paired with the soy sauce pickles. The sandwich was perfectly moist from the juicy chicken and the house sauce and definitely worth a try when you come. (7.5/10) The salted egg chicken was super unique. I enjoyed how the umami taste of the salted egg and would definitely recommend this to those looking to try something new. (8/10) As a spice lover, the chili half chicken was definitely my favorite. The chili sauce that it is coated in was divine and you can tell that the chili oil is made in house with a unique taste. Also the half chicken came with both dark and white meat and both pieces were equally as tender and juicy. (9/10) The chicken salt fries were addicting and the dirty fried rice was one of my favorite parts of this meal. (8.5/10) The staff was super friendly and helpful with the menu and the seating is limited. Would definitely come back on my next trip to NY!
