Great Runway section at this TJ's
Christina G.

It was one of the first TJ's I knew to get a "Runway" section. That is, designer items at discount prices. Designer ranges from the increasingly pedestrian Seven Jeans to high-end hopefuls like Nanette Lepore to real couture from Vera Wang. At stores like this, you know it's all about the hunt. Often, there's only a single piece of a coveted item, and it's in a football-player size. But every now and then, you'll find something at a price worth celebrating. Like my Vivienne Tam tank I got for $20 years ago, and still wear. There are also a few pieces I shouldn't have been fooled into: an Emilio Pucci dress and a plain Coach wallet that were both far overpriced from what they would have been online. So you have to really know your labels & past seasons, and thereby your bargains. Outside of Runway, I've had some luck with shoes (though DSW is much better), housewares (prefer Homegoods), and athletic-ware. Pretty tidily kept, and the new checkout system ensures efficiency (along with many extra tempting baubles to entice you on your way to the register). A $5 DVD of Tomb Raider? Just what I always needed!

Great furniture options, horrible ugly nasty bathrooms!!!!!
Kelly P.

It's small but has lots of goodies. It's located right next to a Once Upon a Child so I like to hit both when in the area. But this store has nasty looking & smelling bathrooms! With 2 small children & an infant that's a big negative. I want somewhere clean to change him. I couldn't get s pic bc my hands were full. Also some employees were nice but some were very rude, they would be walking towards you, didn't say anything, even "excuse me", and just expected to rudely squeeze by you or have you move.

The aforementioned Comic Sans mug. Somewhere, a designer is crying--and, yes, that designer is me.

I will no longer purchase from either TJMaxx or any of their affiliate stores, because when I had to return a pair of pants, they charged me $11.99 to return by mail. That is unethical, especially since the product was damaged! Even if there's something wrong on their end, you still need to pay the $11.99. They're making us pay for their inconvenience. I tried to leave feedback using chat, and you can't type text. You can only choose from their bot choices, so I'm forced to leave my complaint here.

I first went to Amazon as ya do but alas, stupid Amazon dropped the ball, again, ugh! So I'm going to all these different places looking for luggage and I remembered good ole Marshalls! Now, truth be told, when I go into a Marshalls I have to be fofocused, cuz gurl they got all sorts of good deals. Anyway, I found a piece of luggage that would be perfect for my trip; but I noticed 2 things. One was a lil damage to one of its corners and the other was no price tag. So I went up to the front and a nice, young lady helped me. Her colleague went to research the price but couldn't find another one with the same brand name. So she said based on the size of another piece of luggage it would be $59. Not bad, not bad but what about that lil bit of damage, I asked, can we take off any for that? She said yes and promptly got her manager who was super helpful in giving me a lil extra discount and checking me out. Thank you to all the folks at the Durham Marshalls, yall are wonderful and made my up coming trip easier and even more stress free! Will definitely be back!

I also was looking for some work sandals, and honestly, they didn't have too many options either. The racks are an absolute mess to try to sort through. Overall, for the price of the store and having to navigate through the mess, it's a pain. The grocery area is much better organized than any other area of the store.

After years of not visiting this Target in the South Square shopping center off 15-501, my wife…read morereturned with me (my first time at this location) and she was reminded of why she preferred other Target locations over this one. Simply put, this Target is more like a Walmart. Our preferred Target in the Chapel Hill-Durham area is the one in the Renaissance Village shopping center. It's nicer. Target previously referred to that location as the "Durham SE" location. It's now called the "Durham Renaissance Pkwy" location: https://www.yelp.com/biz/target-durham-3 During our ordinary Saturday visit around 3:15pm, there was a panhandler outside the entrance, it was crowded, the crowd was relatively rough (inside the store and outside in the parking lot), the self-checkout line was the longest I've seen at any Target - it was so long that people in line had to make space for other customers entering the aisles to shop, and this was one of the worst Target stores (perhaps the worst) I've seen in terms of cleanliness and condition. Target has standards and this one fell below the mark. While I was able to find almost everything I needed, my wife was not. She generally loves shopping at Target and found this store to be disorganized and out of stock of several items she was looking for (e.g., beauty products). Like many girls, she takes joy in shopping at Target, but not at this location. My wife did say one cool thing about this Target is there's a mini Ulta Beauty inside. However, like the rest of this Target, the mini Ulta was in disarray. For example, several of the samples/testers were missing and those that remained were used up, dirty, and/or in bad shape. Among the things I purchased were two boxes of La Roche-Posay face moisturizer. I noticed the boxes were kind of beat up and crushed, so I checked the bottles inside to make sure they were okay. I'm glad I checked because someone had swapped a different bottle of lotion into one of the boxes. The bottle inside didn't match the box. I regularly purchase La Roche-Posay from other stores, including the aforementioned Renaissance Pkwy Target, and I've never seen that happen before. It's disconcerting and indicative of the quality of this Target. To top things off, the Starbucks inside this Target is lackluster too. You can read my review for that Starbucks here: https://www.yelp.com/biz/starbucks-durham-22 You can consider it a companion piece to this review.

Meadowmont Village is the place my wife and I have visited the most during our time in Chapel Hill…read more(2020-2024), mainly because of the Harris Teeter here, but also because of the property's restaurants and other businesses. This is a nice mixed-use development on the east side of Chapel Hill, close to the Durham border. It's just a short drive down highway 54 from I-40 exit 273 and it's not far from 15-501 either. Meadowmont Village sets itself apart from competition in the area by simply being nicer with a cleaner and more elevated atmosphere. The architectural design, layout, and landscaping make it a quaint, relaxing place to walk around. The tenant mix is a good combination of chain and local. This isn't a bigger, destination-type development like Fenton in Cary. Instead, it's smaller and quieter, and that's part of the appeal. It's never felt crowded or uncomfortable all the times I've been here. It's easy to get in and out and there always seems to be just the right amount of people, even when it's busy (e.g., active patios at Brixx, Bluebird, and Kahlovera). There's a pond and trails nearby and overall, the entire neighborhood is well-kept. When we first moved to the area, my wife and I frequented the Harris Teeter up 54 at Hope Valley Commons in Durham. We then switched to the Harris Teeter at Meadowmont Village because it's more secluded and has a calmer, more peaceful environment (inside and out). While I think the Harris Teeter at Hope Valley Commons is a little bigger with a slightly wider variety of inventory, that difference hasn't been big enough for us to switch back to the Hope Valley Commons Harris Teeter as our primary Harris Teeter. Below is a list of businesses at Meadowmont Village that we've been to so far. I've left Yelp reviews for most of them. It's a cute brand-new shiny shopping center with some boba tea and some desserts and some food and a lot of high-end shops. They tried to make it like a little shopping Village and while it does seem fake it and contrived, it also is a really nice place to hang out and get some stuff - and it's peaceful and safe and quiet and reminds me of Virginia in some ways.
