AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Unfortunately hired Morrell to repair gutters that were damaged when a tree fell on our home. After his "repair" my gutters now make an extremely loud howling sound when they vibrate in strong wind. Called Morrell to discuss, he admitted that he probably should have used more than one screw to attach each bracket, and that he would come out to repair it. He has since ghosted me. I had the roof replaced by T Morrell and it took him a month to remove the dumpster from my property. The driveway was damaged since the dumpster was sitting for too long. Tom and Lance completed some demo work for me recently and they did an amazing job. They arrived on time for the walkthrough, and had a quote to me within a day. When I told them I was ready to move forward they were there working the next day and completed everything in a day and a half's time. They were even courteous to our next door neighbor. First, let me start by saying that I live in the South End in Boston in a 4-story brownstone. I've used Tom Morrell and his company for two separate jobs. On both occasions, he did an exceptional job! Before working with Tom, I had a ton of trouble finding anybody that could repair my gutters or roof because of how high the roof is (over 45 feet). In addition, my building must adhere to the historical motif of the south-end. So there are certain style requirements for work done to the exterior of any building. I called Tom initially because I needed a brand-new copper downspout put in. He promptly came over, gave me a quote, and completed the work within a few days. The work was excellent and I am extremely pleased! He On the second job, Tom came over and helped me to repair the back gutter on my same property. He gave me a good quote and again was able to complete the work within a few days of the estimate. Beyond the high quality work and prompt turn-arounds, I appreciated Tom's communication. Something I really dislike when working with contracts/sub-contractors is when I get blown-off or treated without professionalism. It seems to happen far too often. Tom is the exact opposite of this. He is clearly a busy guy, but he will always treat you with courtesy and respect and will let you know what is going on - i.e. if things need to be rescheduled, etc. Highly recommend Tom for any roofing related work. read more

This business demonstrated a complete lack of respect and faulty work that has resulted in damage to a unit in the building. Although he never showed up when stated, my main complaint is that the work completed on our condo's gutters was not done properly, resulting in water damage to the interior of the unit. Tom, the owner, said that one of the downspouts was left off because the gutters had been titled backward so the water would go down the back downspout. This is not the case as we have photos of water gushing down that corner of the building. The work was therefore erroneous and incomplete. He agreed to a 15 year warranty in writing as well. I signed a contract with T Morrell on 12/4/15 to replace a rubber roof on the front of my commercial building in Hanover, MA. Job was done and paid in full 12/8/15. Beginning 3/11/16 the roof began leaking. Tom Morrell has patched it 5 times since then and stated to me several times that he was not going anywhere and would make this right. It was still leaking as of 6/6/17. At that point he stopped accepting my calls, email and text messages. I made a claim against his insurance company listed on the certificate of insurance and found out he was not covered for the damages. I had to hire another roofing company to make temporary repairs (as I was not in the position financially to replace the roof AGAIN or lose my tenant) to the job that was not done correctly the first time! I had Tom do my roof in Quincy and as far as I can tell it was done correctly and basically on time. There was a delay getting started but nothing substantial and he was up front about it. The issue I had is more with communication. I have a balcony off my master bedroom that had to be taken down as part of the roofing project. It was supposed to be reinstalled using composite decking and it has not been. I have been promised multiple times that it was gong to be done and told twice that they were "coming the next day" but it never happens and there's never a call or explanation. There was some money that he told me to pay him upon completion that I haven't paid and I assume he didn't want it because he knew he wasn't going to do the balcony but that is just a guess. Tom has stopped calling and I'm assuming that it's just not going to happen. So as far as the roofing component goes I have no issues as of yet but there's definitely a bad taste left in my mouth because of what I explained. Updated: 11/5/17 Tom called me a few weeks ago and apologized for not finishing the job. He said he purchased some lobster traps or something and was busy for weeks getting them set. I have no idea if this is a story or fact but who really cares? Called to have roof vents resealed as they were leaking. He never showed up that first day or called to say he wasn't coming. I texted asking that we reschedule for the next day. Did not hear back from him until two days later. He sent an email estimate for his work without ever having seen our house. We had in the meantime contacted another roofer who had already repaired our roof on the same day we had called them. R King's estimate for the work was $100 more than what we had already paid the other roofer (and the other roofer had done quality work). I can't speak to the quality of work done by R King Service, but the customer service and price deserve a low rating. Addendum: After my review was posted the owner of the company contacted me to explain that he had come out to the house to make the estimate. But he had not gotten onto the roof to see that the work had already been done. I appreciated the fact that he does check his reviews and follows up. That does show a certain pride in his work and so am upgrading him one star. Regardless the fact that there was poor early communication (which seems to be the norm in the roofing repair businesses as there are five other companies I called that never heard back from at all) and the higher priced estimate means he would not be my initial recommendation to someone who asked me about roof repair. read more

I'm a resident of Brookline, MA and for the longest time we had a problem with our roof. There was a leak and the water would seep through causing us tons of problems. After contacting several contractors and so-called "roof specialists" we thought our problem would never get fixed. Some of them would never call back and others just couldn't identify the problem. However, after contacting Tom Morrell, our problem was a thing of the past. Seeing I had a 9-5 schedule, he ensured he could set up a time to meet and apologized it had had to be earlier in the morning around 7 am. He was very professional and knew what the issue was as soon as he got on the roof. He told me a rough idea of the cost of repair on the spot which was very reasonable (so hard to find a humble person to charge reasonably for their labor in today's times). Then he got back to me fairly quick with a written estimate and a copy of the liability papers for his company. I live in a condo in Charlestown and we experienced a roof leak over the past winter that caused a lot of issues inside our new condo with ceiling staining, etc. I called Tom Morrell and a bunch of other contractors to have them take a look and Tom and his staff were immediately responsive over the phone (they came out right away on a weekend) and then made return visits as needed to make sure the problem was addressed and resolved properly. Although it took a few tries to fix the issue, Tom and his staff came back (charging only their initial quote = very fair pricing) a couple times and made sure everything was set! No more leaking (still after 6-months it seems to be totally fine)! Tom even checked in after the initial repairs when it rained to see if things were OK. I called several roofers in the area and found Tom Morrells's roofing to the best option. They provided the most detailed affordable proposal, and were very professional organization. A day after I called to accept the proposal, the paperwork was done and the work was scheduled for later in the week. Two days later, the shingles were delivered and the next morning the work crew arrived. They had the roof completed by the end of the day and the cleanup completed by 9 AM the next morning. They found and fixed every weak spot in the roof, built up the low spots and made sure the roof would last for many years to come. The work crew was really impressive and did a wonderful job. They also made some recommendations an an estimate to fix some weak areas in the walls and a few other long term housing repairs. Currently, I give Tom and his team a rating of 1 star. Tom and his guys installed a scupper and downspout on our house back in June 2017. We paid the deposit on time and the final payment on time. The scupper that was installed is not large enough to deal with the water runoff from the roof. Since the end of July, when I was finally back in the country to see the work and hear my neighbors concerns, I have been calling and messaging Tom on a daily basis to come fix the current situation. For the last 3 weeks I have been told they would deal with it. Someone showed up the week August 21st to look at the problem and said they would be out the week of August 28th to fix it. I messaged and called Tom every day that week to find out when his team would be there so that I could oversee the work and he has never called me back. I am very disappointed and I hope this can be remedied this week. I will update this review if I get a response and the problem fixed. Tom and his team may be the type of contractors that do the job quickly, but if you have issues getting them back to fix them is a problem after you have paid them in full. Giving a client a 5 year warranty on work doesn't matter if there intention is to never return when there are issues. read more

If you would like to see the job completed......look elsewhere. We contacted Tom for a roof health check / gutter clean / animal proofing and were scheduled quickly for the work to be done. However, the animal proofing piece didn't happen and despite it being more than 10 weeks since the original job and countless phone calls, txts and emails - no joy. Lots of excuses which all boil down to the remaining job being too small. So - don't use Tom if you like jobs to be completed. read more

My roof here in the South End was leaking so I called Tom because of the reviews posted on here. We went up on the roof and he found all kinds of small holes in the rubber roofing that needed patching as well as a few large ones. He gave me a price to repair the roof, clean and repair the gutters and replace the downspouts. He gave me a quote and then started work early the next morning. Unfortunatly rain then snow snowed up around noon the next day but they were up there the following day sweeping the snow off and fixing the roof before the snow had a chance to melt. This is the worst company I have ever done business with, I paid 1600$ to have a 3 season room flashed to my house and have a drip edge put on, because water got into the house Feb 2015. Tom and guys came out in March, in May there was a rain storm and water got behind back wall gutter. After multiple calls and waiting almost a month a guy came and said the gutter needed to be leveled. He leveled the gutter and then the next time it rained the other side of the gutter got water behind it, water hitting right on window, and going in soffit. Now we are just waiting for water damage as the water gets in soffit! Multiple times I called Tom and was told he will come himself and take a look, he just keeps lying and no one shows up! The flashing was about 25% done, as noted by our general contractor who did vinyl siding for us. The work wasn't even completed and water getting behind Gutters still. HUGE PROBLEM! Does not stand behind his work even though we paid for a 15 year warranty. We hired (and paid in full) T. Morrell for work on our triple decker in Boston. The job was "complete" in about 3 weeks but was not done in a good workmanlike manner. I spoke to some of the guys on one of their last times out to the property and asked why they had not removed a large downspout. He said it was too hard. So they left the downspout hanging there not connected to the gutter. They did eventually come back and remove this downspout but when I expressed concerns that they should have re-installed a downspout in this location they assured me they had pitched the gutters to the back of the building and this downspout was not needed BUT, "since T. Morrell stands behind his work so if it rains and there is an issue they would come back out". This was entirely NOT the case. Since that time every rain/mist/drizzle the gutters pour water down the front and side of the buildings where the downspout should have been. What is worse is that we've called, left voicemails, text messages and e-mails and they have been completely unresponsive going on 2 months now. The second Unit now has water damage on their ceiling and we have no choice but to find another company to come fix the terrible job this company did. It's put us all in a very bad situation. I would never use this company again or recommend them to anyone. We are very disappointed. read more
